  1. http://www.averagebetty.com/images/tortilla_soup_420_2spoons.jpg Just trying to be nice. Plus, the last time I used this photo for a Suppan start, the Brewers won. To add to the mojo, here is a trip down memory lane, from three years ago tonight. A similar end result, perhaps with less drama, would be excellent.
  2. I won't be at the April 23-25 Cubs series. Could someone pick up a Gameday program for me? This should be issue 3 of 2010. I have an extra of issues no. 1 and 2 from 2010 if you are interested in a trade. Also, for anyone interested, I have two extras of the Nationals' Inside Pitch (their Gameday) program from last weekend's Brewers series. First dibs for an extra goes to whoever gets me a Brewers-Cubs Gameday. Thanks!
  3. The Post-Gazette link supplied by SCBCF includes this interesting tidbit: I agree. That is remarkable.
  4. This random thought has taken on a new meaning after the just-completed series in Pittsburgh. On another random note, given Brewerfan's history with cheese sandwiches, I share with you a new link: Grilled Cheese Academy.
  5. Yes, apparently I now work in a palace; or at least, our big front room is now more palatial than before. The renovation took seven of the most disruptive months of my working life, but the results have been good and definitely easy on the eyes. We have also seen an increase in use of the Reading Room since it was reopened at the end of January. If you're in or near Madison today or Saturday, there's an open house - not that the public can't just walk in anytime the library's open to have a look. I'm still on vacation, so you will not see me if you drop in during the open house.
  6. McCalvy reports (via Elias Sports Bureau) that today's game is the first 20-0 game in major league history. That may be the most remarkable factoid from this game.
  7. I heard that on the radio this afternoon, and laughed. Read milwaukeesportsfan's post above during the game, laughed again. Re-read the post aloud to the S.O. just now...laughed aloud, a third time.
  8. joepepsi, you can get an idea of the "lecture" by reading member responses to it in the April 11 IGT.
  9. Bob and Cory's star(s) of the game? The offense. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If you missed it, the replay is at 7:00 CT (6:30 Brewers Live) on FSWisconsin. If you're looking for a different type of baseball fun, ESPN Classic is showing the Cubs-Marlins "Bartman" game at 4:00 CT today.
  10. OK, I'm going to go outside and sweep the porch. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. I feel bad for - or else I'm impressed by - people who follow and care about the Pirates the way we do about the Brewers. Except for that one foul-mouthed board we followed here a bit this time last year; they've contributed to the karma. Manny with a hit and RBI!
  12. I would not want to be the Cubs, ever. Per Cory, this is the fourth consecutive game in which the Brewers have held a lead of 8 runs or more. An obscure record. Gradually the Brewers are pushing out the hurt and sadness I experienced after Saturday's game. I wouldn't mind if they kept this up.
  13. After years of going for postgame celebratory (or consoling) custard, we finally went on a weekday a few offseasons ago and saw Bud with his hot dog and hot fudge sundae, headed for his black Lexus. So it's not just a myth. I'd second Gilles for the custard even if Bud isn't in the vicinity. Mmmm....fancy sundaes. Capitaltigers, if you feel willing to share your seat location (just the section; we won't stalk you), we could assure you of how great the seats are. In nine-plus seasons, I've had a bunch of different vantage points and really can't say I've ever had a bad seat. My preference is for a home-plate orientation, but I've enjoyed seats in the corners and the bleachers as well.
  14. Prince off the home run schneid! Also, what are the odds of a baseball team having two McCutchens?
  15. It could be lamer. The restaurant's motif could be Remetee-style art. More seriously, Ryan's people, or the restaurant's people, must have decided there's more $ to be made appealing to the upscale dining crowd than to baseball fans or Ryan Braun fans. Good news for some, not so much for some of us here.
  16. I hope you enjoy your stay (not to mention your train trip; we just got back from a train trip to DC that included the Brewers-Nats series). Do you have tickets yet? The Sunday game with the Phillies is the Hank Aaron bobblehead giveaway date, so waiting until you get here to buy may be risky.
  17. Series win! Nice, guys. Real nice! I know it's the Pirates, but with Saturday's loss still fresh in my mind, I'll take it. (Also, with LaTroy's Friday appearance still fresh in my mind, I'm glad they put him in tonight.) 12,192 at PNC...that's sad, for such a nice park.
  18. My sister and her now-husband both used to work for Reynolds Transfer in Madison (before they met). If I had to hire movers, I'd check with them first; but I admit to having no direct experience with the company. What you really need is access to firefighters. The same brother-in-law who worked for Reynolds is also a volunteer firefighter. Between the moving brains of him and my sister and the brawn they organized among their firefighter friends, our most recent house move was a snap - and all it cost us was the lunch special at this Middleton bar the guys like. It was awesome.
  19. I heard exactly one at-bat of this game on the radio last night (one of Dave Bush's when it was 6-0), despite being within radio range of Pittsburgh all evening. They must have put the Pirates on an alternate, low power station so the others could carry the Pens. In contrast, we had perfectly fine radio access to the Rockies-Nationals, Cubs-Mets, Rangers-Red Sox, and Phillies-Braves - so at least we had occasional score updates for the Brewers. So, nice game; or at least, nicer end result than we've seen lately. I hope this means the Brewers have broken the "one slipped away loss, one beatdown, one scrapped out win" pattern of their last three series.
  20. That's exactly how I feel about Rocky Rococo pizza. My first semester at UW-Madison, I had a library job that started before the dorm cafeteria opened for supper, so I had a Rocky's slice two evenings a week for that one semester. That'll be 25 years ago this fall, and I still shy away from Rocky's.
  21. I'm about to board an overnight train, so definitely no TV for me. I'm hoping against hope to be able to pull in KDKA for a while. Come on, Brewers! Scrap out a win tonight.
  22. Let me make it clear - I rarely eat at McDonald's. Last night it was down to the overpriced hotel restaurant, a Chipotle which already gave me gastric distress on this trip, and the arches. The oatmeal in this context was comforting. Of course, I could make the same thing myself once we're back home.
  23. McDonald's is selling Fruit and Maple Oatmeal in at least some markets. I had some tonight (it's available all day) and it was pretty good.
