  1. I'll second the Maraniss book on Clemente. It made me like Pittsburgh fans, at least those from like 40 years ago. I've also really enjoyed Eddie Mathews and the National Pastime, a biography Mathews did with the help of Bob Buege in 1994. That might be harder to find, though. One of the stories told in that book is of a time Eddie ran the stop light at 76th and Blue Mound and got in a bit of legal trouble for it. I think of that most every time we drive past Gilles Frozen Custard.
  2. At Miller Park, they don't say anything about caps before God Bless America - only before the national anthem.
  3. I am pretty sure it was $10 per brick. They had some out in the Fan Zone as recently as last year (I was always surprised to see them). Considering the remodel of the main store, I wouldn't be all that surprised to find they don't display them anymore - but there were so many that I can't believe they no longer have any. So it might be worth calling the Brewers to ask.
  4. Did MP finally stop selling the bricks? (Not saying you can't ask here, BCBF; your post just made me wonder.)
  5. Yeah...so I think I'll lock this. Maybe two IGT attempts will combine to do...something for the Brewers. I don't know; I'm out of ideas.
  6. Let's see if I can at least start the thread before the first pitch. Come on Brewers, make it more of a game tonight and less of a sideshow. 2B Felipe Lopez SS Craig Counsell LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Casey McGehee CF Mike Cameron RF Frank Catalanotto C Jason Kendall P Braden Looper
  7. Usually I scorn all things Yankee, and would dislike Joe Torre as a result; but I've always tried to cut him a bit of slack, seeing as he was a Milwaukee Brave and all. Not anymore. More related to the game, I'm surprised so much happened after I went to bed (when it was still 0-4).
  8. Hey, Brewers, how about a 1-0 record for August 4, 2009?
  9. We were at a weekday game a few years ago where a high school student in a group near us "ate for the cycle." Just as he finished the last bite of the last sausage, Prince or someone hit the go-ahead (and eventual game winning) RBI. So it can pay off, in the short term at least.
  10. Yeah, sorry. I'll return to the blue kool-aid after Corey recovers.
  11. What's this referring to? And what happened to the post that was at the top of page 3 yesterday>? I think PrinceEatMeat's post refers to the post that (for 20 post per page viewers) appeared at the top of page 3 on Monday. It has since been deleted by the author.
  12. The last thing I noticed before I confidently (more or less) turned off the radio last night was that Manny (ours) had just reached his 80th pitch in the 7th. Seriously, how nice is that? The first thing I noticed upon waking up was Brian Posick on WIBA radio giving the sports teaser : "The Brewers were clinging to a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the ninth, with Trevor Hoffman facing Manny Ramirez with the bases loaded. Find out what happens next." I'm a Posick fan, but I wasn't right then. Well, wrong-way sweep averted - I'll take it!
  13. I don't know whether to cheer for the home run or grimace at the visual that sargennm has just put in my mind. Hang on to the lead. Please. Just please.
  14. This banner ad makes the Brewers' organization look mighty confident: http://ads.yldmgrimg.net/apex/mediastore/00fc4a9d-ec54-41e8-96c2-e23d23d1158f I mean, I guess "Come see if the Brewers can get one out of three!" wouldn't sell as many tickets, but this seems to be just asking for the wrong kind of sweep. (The Brewers can feel more than free to prove me wrong.)
  15. Sounds like section La Dee Dah. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. My first thought, upon hearing the month-long estimate, was that Doug would rather err on the longer side (i.e. pleasantly surprise people if he can be back in 2-3 weeks) than the opposite. But I'm one of those hopeful types. And yeah, I can see how "soft enough" is different from "softer" in describing the Brewers' recent schedule.
  17. Ohhhh, Corey, get well soon. I might enjoy singing along to Your Love during Frank's at-bats, but I'd rather have you playing. I think the 2009 Brewers have now officially turned the corner into snakebit territory.
  18. I believe the Brewers are 13-9 in Looper starts.
  19. I'd welcome a return to reasonably effective baseball. By the way, tip of the cap to Carlos for holding things together. Come on, Trevor, it's just another day. Edit: Success! at least for today. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Oh, Cory just doomed the inning by mentioning the possibility of a 7-run 7th. Stupid Menards. Chat is available (not that it wasn't before), if you want to help me try not to jinx this game.
  21. Brewers.com and my pocket schedule both list a 3:05 CT start for this game. I don't know how to change the graphic but I edited the subject line.
  22. Is the organizational depth for outfielders that lacking? Or am I forgetting something useful about Corey Patterson?
  23. I'll post here just to add to the meager total, but I've got to get some sleep. West Coast games mess with my brain. Hah on the Cubs...except I see they scored in their half of the 10th. Bah. Well, come on, Mike Burns; and Brewer bats, back him up!
  24. Honestly, with all the ex-Brewers they now have, the Rays practically owe us someone. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Guys, Friday's game was already ugly enough. There's no need to further sully the IGT by squabbling about J.J. Thanks.
