  1. Please stop with the Ms. Jody stuff. Equating unsatisfactory play with women is not welcome here.
  2. As Dr. Nick Riviera once said about the coroner, "I'm so sick of that guy!" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  3. Ahh, but it's a New Pirate Generation there...literally. The lineup turnover wasn't fully complete by then, but it wasn't the same lineup they faced in April and May. Add in all that pent-up irrational hatred of the Brewers, and whatever extra motivation that produced, and something was likely to give. OK, yeah, I have no idea what to tell you. You might well see another boo-urns outing Saturday. The only time I've seen him in person was the Mets start, which was 'good enough' (and aided by the Mets' creative fielding).
  4. Who knows...maybe your presence is just what Mike needs to progress beyond the Boo-urns stage. Remember, he beat the Dodgers! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. I like the two-out magic working in the Brewers' favor, for a change. Here's hoping this doesn't devolve into a wacky slugfest. Edit: I won't begrudge our Pacific Time members their rare opportunity to follow Brewers games at a "regular" hour, but otherwise, yeah, I agree with crewcrazy. It'll be hard to stay up for the end of this one.
  6. I highly doubt this is considered to be anything more than a cheap stopgap.
  7. I'm mailing out passes today to tristarscoop and GoldGloveSS06. The hawing supply of passes is not yet exhausted. Please send me a PM if you would like some.
  8. Maybe the point is to make us appreciate the AAA guys all the more?
  9. My memories of the Jose Capellan Experience make me instantly wary of any pitcher cast off by the Braves now. It's probably not fair to judge Jeff Bennett that way, but that's my first reaction.
  10. That is Braden Looper's music. The first time I noticed his use of that song was his first start after his grandfather died, which made me wonder if it was intended as a tribute. I'd been wondering what that was, so I'm glad you posted it.
  11. Jody Gerut uses "Groove Me" by King Floyd.
  12. At the park, I had a thought very similar to Glennron's above. Aha, so this is how they've made their way to only 32 wins through July 30. This game wasn't in our season ticket packages. At 10:00 this morning, I decided to make the drive from Madison because I was desperate to see a Brewers game that wasn't dreadful (like on Tuesday, Sunday and Friday), and today was my last chance for two weeks. So I was delighted by today's result, and many of its components, among them the single seat I scored in 217, the friendly and polite families sitting around me, the Counsell Crush (I knew I could count on Mr QL to make that post), singing along with The Outfield, and the silver lining that comes with not hearing Hells Bells because it wasn't needed. I know a series win would have been better; I know this doesn't solve anything about the rotation, but finally seeing a win raised my spirits, and I'll take that. I'm going to go watch the Counsell Crush replay now. Edit: Having just watched the replay of said crush, I now remember asking Craig to straighten it out a bit after his deep fly to left went foul. I love it when they heed me. Also, I wondered today (as I had all series) why Pittsburgh got rid of Nyjer Morgan. If nothing else, he's a Brewer killer, and would presumably have had value to the Pirates just for that.
  13. Any piece of writing that purports to define Miller Park by how it is during Cubs games is too one-sided for me.
  14. I think the economy might make more of a difference than the Brewers' decisions this week. When season ticket holders were being asked to make 2008 postseason ticket commitments last August, the recession wasn't yet news. If you've already made a 50-75% deposit on next year's tickets, it's that much easier to commit for the rest in November or December or whenever. There have to be plenty of fans who could make the 2009 commitment in fall 2008, but may not be financially able to commit to 2010 (or may have to reduce their purchases). That plus the Brewers' recent on-field woes could shape up to be a double whammy for 2010 ticket sales. I'll hope for better, but if I were the Brewers I'd want to keep that in mind. I don't know how late the Brewers have to be "in the race" to trigger 2009 postseason preparations, requests for deposits, etc. The postseason mailings went out in mid-August each of the last two years. To steer this back more toward the original topic, I think molitorfan has a point. The Brewers have finally cultivated a level of "fan goodwill" (for lack of a better phrase) that they haven't had for a while, and I doubt they want to lose it. One question it raises for me is how do you make a move that the whole fanbase can get behind? The Brewerfan part of the fan base thinks ahead and realizes the potential long-term value of (for example) trading J.J. for pitching that might stay more than two months. The more casual part of the fan base might say, "but we love J.J.! How can you trade such an integral part of the team? Hmph!" and turn to the Packers. The future is important, no doubt; but putting a presentable product on the field now through September (even if it's not in a postseason berth winning effort) also matters to many fans. It is a difficult balance to strike. I'd hope (as fondybrewfan states) that the Brewers shouldn't completely fall off the map in a year's time, but given the attention spans of Americans nowadays - and the economy - I'm only hopeful, not confident.
  15. 20 pack holders are eligible to attend the season ticket holder luncheons. We've never gone because the luncheons are always on weekdays, which is understandable but not very workable for out of town fans.
  16. I probably shouldn't get started on what bothers me about newspapers nowadays (because I might not stop). Last fall, when I picked up the Journal Sentinels with special postseason coverage, I found myself actually surprised that the MJS still had local content, and then sad to have that be a surprise. The Wisconsin State Journal is fast becoming little besides AP stories, advertising flyers, and Badger/Packer coverage.
  17. Well, thank goodness. I don't like that I've reverted to my '02-03 habit of marking the tiniest milestones in a game or series (averted no-hitter, averted shutout, averted series sweep), but I am glad that the Brewers now can't be swept by the Nats, not to mention that they still have a chance at splitting the series. P.S. Yo, you might want to be ready to pitch a CG on Thursday. I thought about using blue there but decided against it.
  18. I'm hopeful, which is not exactly the same as confident, but it's an emotion I haven't felt lately regarding the Brewers.
  19. We were at three games this homestand and didn't see him at any of them. Can't say he doesn't deserve a vacation.
  20. If you have a section or row preference, or wanted aisle seats or something, it wouldn't hurt to say so to your ticket rep. It may not help if season ticket packages remain as popular as they've been in 2009, but given the team's current slide that may not happen. If you go for the fan's choice, the sooner you indicate your preferred dates, the better. We've had a fan's choice package in TB 417 since the 2002 season (we were in Terrace Reserved for 2001). The Brewers just assigned us seats in row 2 for 2002; then on one low-attendance September night, I checked out almost all seats in our box section, wrote down the locations that we thought gave the best view (no railing obstacle, etc.) and in the 02-03 offseason, emailed our rep with the pairs of seats we liked the most. Several of the pairs were aisle seats. Every fall since, we've sent our rep a friendly email restating our preference to sit in seats X and Y (or as near as possible). Now, we established that preference during the low-attendance years, and just by requesting family section seats we have all but guaranteed our section. That strategy does not work for fans who want to imbibe at games, but it does work for us. This year our fan's choice seats moved around more than ever before, but we're still in the same section and we have rotated through only a few different pairs of seats. We are considering switching to the Opening Day Plus preset package for 2010, but we'll wait to decide until the plan dates are released. Another thing to consider is that there is some leeway for exchanging tickets for different games and different seat locations. One of the ticket windows outside MP is reserved for season ticket holder business, and the line there is often long early in the season, as people make tweaks to their various packages. As for renewing in 2010, if we had to decide today, I expect we'd do it. I would not feel deterred by the Brewers' current skid. If bad on-field results were enough to drive us away, we'd have been turned off long before this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Heck, I would have probably stopped being a fan in 1984, and would never have reached the point of buying season tickets.
  21. You probably don't need this reminder, but tickets cost half price for fans age 60 and older on August 13 and most other weekday games.
  22. FTJ's got a point. While losing "bad Soup" might have a silver lining, the problem is who pitches whatever innings he misses. For those who hung out on Brewerfan in 2006 and remember the "Wheel of Relievers"...the 2009 Brewers appear to be entering a "Wheel of Starters" phase.
  23. As stated already, the number of rows in terrace reserved varies by section. 20-25 sounds about right. And yeah, remember that the row numbering is continued from terrace box, so there is no "row 1" in the reserved section. Speaking for terrace box, I think the sightlines are just fine. From our seats in TB 417 the only part of the field we can't see is the far right field corner - same part that Bob and Cory can't see, so I don't feel in bad company. If you can score seats in the TB or TR area in the general vicinity of home plate - roughly 416 to 427 - I think your view of the field should be fine. If your party includes people who have difficulty with stairs, I would try for TB if you can. Depending on the size of your group, going for TB may push you out toward the corners, though (we are actually bringing part of the S.O.'s family to the 8/13 game ourselves, and ordering two weeks ago for a group of 12 put us in 410). Even so, for terrace box the corners are not bad. We have had terrace season tickets since 2001, so feel free to PM me if you have other questions.
  24. Yeah, and they've now increased their road wins by 20 percent in the last two days. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I sat at the ballpark tonight, wondering why the Brewers hate the Sunday Plus season ticket holders this year. I thought of a new possible phrase to describe the rotation: Yovani, and pray for a four day tsunami. Not to make light of tsunamis, but not much else rhymes. Also - the board is so glum lately, some of you might like this - in the 8th inning, during (I think) a mound visit by Bill Castro, Dean Rosko on the Miller Park organ played the theme from M*A*S*H. You know - "Suicide is Painless." That might be worse than when they'd play Free Fallin' after losses in 2008.
  25. Considering that Carlos was left in for his longest stint in over a year, probably without being optimally stretched out, I thought he did all right. Put differently, after observing Monday's game, I imagined an outing even worse than he turned in.
