  1. I've only had a cursory glimpse at Gameday, but it's hard not to look at the line score and think, "oh, no, they'll make Yo pay for whatever one mistake he made." Come on, guys. (Not you guys, the Brewers.) Also - I wouldn't be completely surprised if Casey's injury has been dogging him much of the season. Though you'd think that'd be all the more reason to bring up someone healthier.
  2. I'd imagine some (not necessarily some here) decide to splurge at MP as their 'reward' for budgeting well elsewhere. We tend to do our Brewers splurging on tickets - two 20-packs plus travel expenses from Madison - so we often carry in sandwiches and/or bottled water, we utilize the designated driver soda voucher, etc. For day games we're more likely to spring for a brat or something...but the soy dog is $3.00 and way less salty than the 'real' meats. The S.O. and I are both teetotallers (I am completely; he's a near-abstainer), so that saves us coin right there.
  3. The books I've read about Roberto Clemente make me regret not having been old enough to have an interest in baseball when he played. (Not that I would have got a lot out of it at age 6 or under, anyway) My knee-jerk short list would thus be Clemente and Spahn. And the 1957 Braves' pennant clincher and World Series.
  4. Vent threads generally lack thoughtful posts, so I would not say this has been a 'vent thread.' If the number of brief posts that are short on substance increases, then it'll head toward lockable. The overall experience of the 2008 season was, for me, resoundingly the best of my 27 seasons of Brewer fandom - obviously mostly for the on-field results, but for a host of off-field reasons too. Enough changed in the 2008-2009 offseason (both on and off the field, as well as in my non-baseball life) so that I entered the 2009 season figuring that 2008 would be hard to top. Some of the personal factors have interfered with my ability to participate in this site as often as I'd like. The less-than-competitive pitching is difficult to behold - and I've been to 22 games, with 8 to go, so I've seen my share of ugliness in person - but I haven't personally gotten a feeling that the Brewers are quitting (as I sometimes did in the early 2000s). Going to Miller Park, and before that County Stadium, for an evening or an afternoon is still among my very favorite things to do. If "too many" losses were enough to change my mind, I'd have given up in 1984. Obviously it's more of a letdown when comparing the Brewers' current state to how most of us felt this time last year, and (for me) observing the annual media shift to football - but it won't deter me from attending and following games, and participating here when I can. September 27 will be a sad day for me, because it'll signal six months of no Brewers, as is the case with the last game of any season. I hope the 2010 schedule is released in September, so I can launch right into planning our trips for next year. Honestly, if anything has become difficult for me to enjoy, it's the increase in angry and often repetitive posts that have cropped up in many places on this message board. One thing that attracted me to Brewerfan years ago was the synergy (as much as I hate to use a buzzword) of die-hard fans rooting together for the Crew. Too often now it feels like optimist-vs-pessimist around here (I use the terms loosely, as I consider myself a hopeful fan, rather than a full optimist). That antagonism makes it less fun to hang out here, but again, I have no problem setting that aside when I go to a game. So, I guess I'm kind of enjoying myself, by now.
  5. Well. It's not like we've never seen a lead this big - or bigger - coughed up before. That's all I've got.
  6. http://rlv.zcache.com/milwaukee_brewers_manny_parra_mug-p168590797696533145tr4f_210.jpg Someone on Zazzle.com has Manny Parra merchandise. Like this mug. Edit: pretendastronaut, the 2009 season has been disappointing, but the Brewers aren't 30-62! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  7. If you need a silver lining, by taking one for the team on Wednesday, you guys are saving the hawing party from seeing Loop on either Friday or Sunday next weekend. We've seen possibly more than our share of Braden, too. Of course, we're not out of the woods for getting Suppan, of whom we've also seen way too much, dating back to 2007 when I think we managed to pick nine of his second-half home starts.
  8. Though the Brewers threaten to lose the collective interest of Brewerfan, I am glad they managed to hang on. Not that it should ever have been this dramatic.
  9. Are Copps and Pick n Save corporately related? like all under the Roundy's umbrella? Because I feel about Copps much the same way that GYPE feels about Pick n Save. My favorite Pick n Save memory is when a location in Waukesha (that backs up to I-94) had a light out in its rear neon sign, so it read "ick N Save."
  10. crewcrazy's signature reminds me that I heard another use of the word "zim-zam" recently: Link I'd never heard of that.
  11. The last filling I got, a couple of years ago, took all of about 10 minutes to put in. I wonder how long it will last. What's bugging me, though, is this cold that's taking a long time to subside. The last few nights have been exceptional "sleeping weather", yet I spend hours coughing and not sleeping.
  12. Sounds like "who got hurt" is a question for lambeauleap.com. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Come talk about it in the chat room. We can help each other through this.
  14. Sweet jebus, Mike - Ronnie freakin' Belliard? Do you not like me?
  15. Plus UW isn't paying rent to Dane County for use of the Coliseum anymore. (I'll be in the cold, cold ground before I call it the Alliant Energy Center.) Incidentally, LouisEly, terrific avatar.
  16. Or quickly closes the gap/ties the game/relinquishes the lead. Either way, don't do it! Pitchleague and I are asking nicely!
  17. The Brewers' media guide hasn't included that information in at least several years.
  18. That freebie game at the end of the 2005 season was a lot of fun. Gary Glover shuts out the Reds Those (few) of us who had purchased tickets for that game before the freebie deal was announced got a voucher for a free game the following April. For that game we had terrific (and free) seats in section 112; the Brewers won that game as well, and our section was drawn to win Palermo's pizza coupons. Truly, the game that kept on giving. I miss those days, in a way...every Glover start led to posts about G-Love and Special Sauce. Kind of like when we used to post photos of okra when Tomo Ohka started. Tear. Getting back closer to topic, the announced crowd in Washington tonight was 26,307.
  19. I haven't seen any of the actual magnets yet, but when images of them were displayed on the ribbon board at MP last weekend, I noticed that some of the faces looked no different from last year's set. To be fair, though, some of the Brewers' mug shots on the scoreboard look unchanged from last year, and that seems to be where the magnet makers get the images.
  20. Can there ever be such a thing as a wrong time for the Brewers' bats to wake up? (I get what you're saying; just asking.) OK, no WSH sweep this series. Nice baby step.
  21. Another day, another chance to take a baby step toward saving face (hawing said hopefully).
  22. Clearly you are raising her well. I had to build up my Brewer fandom on my own and sometimes would have liked an earlier start.
  23. Wow, congratulations! May I suggest some fine "Small Sample" merchandise from one of your favorite websites? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif http://images9.cafepress.com/product/244420209v3_350x350_Front_Color-Pink.jpg
  24. I don't know, ewizabeff. While the Brewers seem to have players' individual songs covered (or a whole compilation CD in the case of Mike Cameron), that list doesn't include filler songs, first-inning-montage music, and the like. Maybe we still have a niche! Meanwhile, check this out from the Onion's AV Club Milwaukee.
