  1. Yeah, if we still lived in our old 'hood, I could have walked over to Park St. and personally snapped a photo of a Hwy 151 sign. This'll have to do. Also, I visited www.timeanddate.com, and made a little customized countdown to the Brewers' opening day. 151 appears to be the correct number for today: Linky goodness I know they don't start the season in Milwaukee, but I'll be dead in the cold, cold ground before I recognize "Chicago time."

  3. Wouldn't the network showing baseball even try to schedule a WS game at the same time as MNF? Wouldn't they just assume everyone would watch football regardless of what else is on?
  4. I have a full set of 2007 programs now. Thanks to everyone who helped me fill the gaps. Also, I still have a number of duplicates, and have updated the first post in this thread to reflect what's left.
  5. Well, there's no prescribed limit for hating/scorning someone who wronged you. I think most everyone has at least a mental blacklist. (Even hawing.) But if it's disrupting your life nine months later, I would consider seeking assistance for that. This reminds me of an experience I had recently: We moved a couple of years ago, from a house I really liked, under odd circumstances (a corporate neighbor asked to buy us out). The transaction actually turned out favorably, but I felt like we'd "sold out" and was unhappy/angry about that. About 8-9 months later I called my clinic, told them I needed help putting an issue behind me, and saw a therapist. After a few visits it became easier for me to accept and enjoy our new location (though I still won't drive by the old house). Seeking that kind of help does not mean you're crazy. If your foot hurt to the point of keeping you up at night, you'd get it checked. Your psyche should be no different. Just consider it, in case this thread doesn't put you at ease.
  6. Is this a represented position? I'm just wondering how readily you could fire him if he's in WEAC or equivalent. Edit: Also, what Team Canada said (though his post follows mine). I'd feel better able to comment if I knew how long he's worked for you, how/whether expectations have been communicated to him, and whether you've stated your concerns.
  7. How do I post a link like we did on ezboard? 1992casey has some handy instructions in this post. Assuming you found the "insert hyperlink" icon above the message composition box, you'll see three columns upon clicking said icon: URL, Title and Text. URL is where the URL goes (duh). Text is where you decide what text you want to appear in place of the actual URL (like the "in this post" above). You can leave Title blank. Returning to the original topic, I wonder how much it costs to clean the sausage suits.
  8. she looks like Charlotte Rae Well, Charlotte Rae is a Wisconsin native (Milwaukee-born). (edited to correct city of her birth)
  9. I've owned three Toyotas since 1990 (Corolla, then Camry, then switched this summer to a Prius), and can count on one hand the problems I've had with each. They are ultra reliable. I'm not your size, so I fit in most any car; but my S.O. is almost your size (6-0) and was comfortable in both the Corolla (though that was a while ago and the car has since been redesigned) and the Camry. For what it's worth, the passenger space in the Prius is comparable to that of a Camry. You wouldn't think so, looking from the outside. Not that that'll suddenly put a hybrid within your price range, but I thought I'd mention it. We test drove the hybrid Civic this summer and it felt smaller to me; also had less in the way of interior amenities. But it cost less than the Prius, and the standard Civic is presumably also less expensive. I'd say they're worth test driving too. We went to Zimbrick for the test drive and weren't hassled at all - no salesperson called back later or anything.
  10. Dang, had I got home between 5:05 and 5:08, I could have given you some pointers.
  11. By the way, we have Manhunt. Woohoo! The fee card (the one that costs $30 a year) is issued by Memorial Library and good for the whole campus, including WHS. It's also good for (free) interlibrary loans, in case you want to get something not owned at UW-Madison. The interlibrary loan option alone can pay for the fee in as little as two off-campus requests. The card we issue is free, but good only at WHS. If you ever re-enrolled or decided to get a Memorial card, ours would be superfluous and we'd ask you to return it to us. And I run the checkout desk, so if you keep items long enough to be fined, I will own a little bit of you. Also, anyone can use MadCat (though from some computers you have to select guest access). For most other catalogs/indexes, you have to either be enrolled or be using a campus computer. Stupid licensing agreements, getting increasingly restricted.
  12. The library where I work (Wisconsin Historical Society) is filled nearly to the rafters with historical non-fiction. Our collection is over 4 million items (though not all are "books"). We have an extensive sports collection too. Our building is on the UW-Madison campus. If you're a UW System student or employee, you can use your campus ID to borrow items. If you're not, but live in Wisconsin (with ID to prove it), you can get a borrowing card in our library. *end shameless plug*
  13. most of their "long-suffering" fans... Now, see, I was more or less on board with the 'long suffering' in 2004, and was thusly pleased by the Red Sox victory that year (and not only because it came over STL). But I'd have to have an issue with anyone who called the Red Sox fans long-suffering now. C'mon, they've already won this century.
  14. Even the radio team seems pretty excited about the Bosox. (No offense to AmyintheSouth, but I'd rather see Cleveland advance, if only to see how the media adapts to no "big name" teams in the WS.) One of my employees is distantly related to Jake Westbrook, so that bad hop leading to the first run is making me wince extra.
  15. Joe Morgan's been doing ESPN Radio coverage of the postseason.
  16. So...10-1 Boston in the 3rd. I think I'd hate to be a moderator at indianfan.net tonight.
  17. It may even include a field trip to your place of employment. Oh, duh, I guess so. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif I've been off this week, so research has not been on my mind. Depending on what you wind up seeking, I'd plan to split your time in Madison between the Historical Society and the University Archives, which is separate. I don't know the extent to which the Athletic Department might maintain its own records (rather than turn them over to the UW Archives), but that's a third possible place to visit. Why don't you PM me whenever you know what you hope to accomplish on campus, and I'll see if I can figure out which place(s) can be of most use. Some materials may be retrievable before you arrive, thus saving you time. Depends on what you'd be seeking.
  18. There was a UW baseball player in one of my senior year classes, back in the day. FTJ has jogged my memory enough to make me about 90% sure it was Tom Fischer. However, I did not really get to know him, so I guess I am not really helping your cause, colbyjack. But thanks, FTJ!
  19. psdrummer, I sent a message to your inbox a few days ago. Not sure if you saw it.
  20. The Family Fun Day for UW men's basketball is Sunday, October 21 at 4:00 PM. Little bit of linkage
  21. what do you mean, this will be the historic 66th anniversary of the championship team 67th, actually (1940-41 to 2007-08); and once UW can make a compelling case for what's special about 67 years, I'll be fully on board!
  22. Clara is a charming name. Thanks for the update, and let me add to the congratulations.
  23. I wish they were a little more clear on the "exclusive gift". Is it a patch or paperweight or something like that? If so, I'll wait until January. Our season ticket renewal information arrived in Friday's mail. Here are the options for 'exclusive gifts' if you pay in full by November 15: Full-season accounts: Option 1 - Meet Prince Fielder at an exclusive Season Seat Holder event this spring, where you will receive a bat personally autographed by the Brewers slugger. (one autographed bat per paid in full account. You can purchase additional bats for your seat partners by contacting the Brewers) Option 2 - Receive a $60 food and beverage credit for each seat held on your account. 20-game, 40-game and Terrace Ticket Treat accounts: Option 1 - Meet Brewers stars Yovani Gallardo, Corey Hart, Carlos Villanueva and Rickie Weeks at an exclusive event this spring, and take home a ball personally autographed by one of these young stars. (One autographed baseball per paid in full account. You can purchase additional baseballs for your seat partners by contacting the Brewers) Our invoice asks us to rank the four players in order of autograph preference. Option 2 - Receive 10 single-game .300 Club passes for each seat held on your account. When applicable, the invoice includes a credit for postseason games not played. You can renew online at brewers.com, but you can't request a refund online (you mail in the invoice for that). The material says to allow 10 days for credit card refunds and 30 days for checks. Other points of interest (to me at least) in this mailing: - Season ticket customers will get a complimentary media guide again. Huzzah, says hawing. - The all-fan giveaway dates are on our game list: Sunday, April 6 Sunday, June 1 Sunday, June 22 Sunday, July 6 Sunday, August 24 Sunday, September 7 Of course, it will be much closer to the start of the 2008 season before it's known what the giveaway item is for each date. Edit: I also noticed this morning that the Winter Warm-Up is January 15 and the Brewers On Deck event is March 30. I assume the Winter Warm Up is the thing not open to fans.
  24. We got back a little while ago. It was an all-ages crowd, though the only people invited to participate in on-court activities (free throw contest, etc.) were students. Coach and player introductions (done to music with some players and even coaches busting moves), a 3 point shooting contest (Tim Jarmusz won), a dunk contest (Marcus Landry won), and a little bit of warming up. The student contests were free throw shooting and half court (that contestant almost won). This all took about an hour and was followed by an hour long autograph session, but we didn't stay for that. For reasons I didn't quite get, the Badgers will be honoring the 1941 national champions this season. At one game in December players will dress in 1941 retro uniforms. The auction to buy yourself one of said uniforms starts sooner than that. (I should point out, I don't have a problem with their honoring the '41 team; I don't know why in 2007-08, as it's not a 'milestone' anniversary.) It was kinda goofy, but fun enough. I don't think I would have traveled from out of town for it. Finally - there is a basketball Family Fun Day. I think they said Sunday, October 21 but I did not catch the time, and I don't see it on uwbadgers.com.
  25. That is correct. 7:00 tonight at the Kohl Center. Admission is free. We're planning to go. I don't know if it's a "family" event as such. Last year, I thought they'd had a separate cardinal-white scrimmage. I wonder if tonight's event is more geared toward the student fan. In any case - if you can't attend in person, check this uwbadgers.com link.
