  1. Humane societies vary. The one in Rock County (in the 'hood of my youth, in fact) has produced some less than optimal experiences among my relatives. Organizations like these have to operate with a degree of caution, but the degree used there has seemed excessive in the past. (I hate to ponder why.)
  2. Two minutes. Is that a record?
  3. I wish I'd come up with that. But I cast my vote for 'snows in October.' Its hopefulness appeals to me, plus the roof does not get enough love from the general public.
  4. The Wisconsin primary is hours away and we have received no phone calls related to the election. Even if we get a bunch on Tuesday, it is definitely not bugging me that we've avoided them thus far.
  5. I figured it wasn't brand new. Usually we communicate with our ticket guy by email, so this was a new experience for me.
  6. I was just on the phone with our rep and the mailing begins March 10. They have a ton to mail, so not everything is sent that day, but that's when it starts. So, that's three weeks from today. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif An aside: if you call the Brewers now and are put on hold, instead of muzak you hear exciting Bob/Jim calls from 2007. I was on hold for a few minutes and instantly recognized each of the several plays I heard. I am such a Brewers geek.
  7. Some of my favorites are already mentioned. I'll add Adam-12.
  8. Has he always been flirting with a unibrow?
  9. That'll show me for hanging out in the weather thread all day today. So you lived by Stonefield, huh?
  10. Not every 'custom title' has been flattering. Maybe that could be your silver lining.
  11. Adding on to some of pitchleague's comments: We used to sit under the netting at County Stadium, so we had a reverse bird's-eye view of the stuck and occasionally dislodged baseballs. And we had mezzanine seats once. My first date with the S.O. was the August 6, 1989 Angels-Brewers game. He called and requested "best available" seats and the mezzanine was it. We sat on old folding chairs and had a little countertop. That was about it for the specialness of that section. Anyway - things I miss from County include... - Lower Grandstand section 3: our season ticket hangout, and still the best view + value for family section seats in the history of the Brewers (in my opinion). - The green, green, green grass of the always-outdoors field. I think this gets mentioned every time we have a County Stadium thread, and for good reason. - To a limited extent, the invasion of the weather. Razzzorsharp is correct - there is a sense of accomplishment to be had in being part of a tiny April (or September) crowd in adverse conditions. For that matter, traveling to MP in adverse conditions (especially coming a distance like ours) to be part of a small crowd in April gives me a sense of accomplishment, even though it's generally more temperate inside the park. - And like other posters, the memories. I represent the third generation of my family to have watched games at County Stadium. After my grandfather died, I got some of his old ticket stubs and found that he too had sat in LGS 3. Circle of life.
  12. During my haircut yesterday, my stylist used "and that" twice - in the same way that Doug M does, though he (the stylist) is not Canadian.
  13. Try fanfeedback at brewers.mlb.com. That at least used to be their generic email contact, with questions forwarded to appropriate staff (so you'd hear back from an individual, not fanfeedback). Otherwise, go to brewers.com and follow the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page. There you get a form to fill out.
  14. Try emailing the Brewers to ask. I asked via email early in the MP era about a videoboard clip and got a prompt reply. Incidentally, temke, that's a fine avatar.
  15. I'm mildly disappointed that there is apparently no discount this year for buying general parking in advance. It was nice to pay $7 by buying in advance last year. And wow, the opening day general parking costs more than our seats! That's more of a commentary on the price of terrace box than the Brewers' cashing in on the popularity of the event. I wonder how long it will be before people start buying parking packages specifically to resell.
  16. I wouldn't give up without checking with the public library in Nashville. Here's the link to their website, which has an Ask a Librarian box toward lower right. Most public libraries have the local newspaper on microfilm; I'd check the sports pages around the start of the 1989 season to see if a roster was printed. Library staff may not be able to check the microfilm page by page for you, but they may be willing to send the film to your local library so you could take a look. There may be a fee for having the film sent to you, but it will be cheaper than traveling to Nashville. Good luck.
  17. Well, it doesn't cover Madison yet, so you guys can't snoop on my house - only my roof.
  18. From the NIU website: NIU can confirm six fatalities, including the gunman. Four of the dead were female and two, including the gunman, were male. In total, there were 22 injured or killed. NIU can confirm that the shooter was an NIU graduate student in sociology in the Spring of 2007 but was not currently enrolled.
  19. At the moment, I can't think of a better way to put it myself. Man, oh man.
  20. If I recall correctly, Brian Shouse's first car was a baby blue AMC Matador. The 2006 Gameday programs used to have player profiles in them and they asked each player about his first ride.
  21. Without wanting to sound overly naive, my hope is that Wisconsin would not seriously consider coaches with that kind of track record to begin with.
  22. Technically (as "Big T" points out in the article), TGJ's hit was not a walkoff, as it only tied the game. That doesn't mean it wasn't awesome, though. Like a bunch of you, I was also in attendance, trying to focus on getting the 82nd win instead of the Friday night elimination. I wasn't even thinking of the irony at the time - just busy trying to will the Brewers into the lead (if such a thing is possible). I'd said for years that I hoped to be watching in person when the Brewers clinched a winning season - whenever it might happen - and that made the 9/29 game satisfying despite the playoff picture. I was standing next to an usher when Vinny delivered the game winning hit, and we both jumped up and down whooping and high fiving. This article brings back sharp (and happy) memories of that game. Thanks for posting the link, AJAY.
  23. I couldn't either, but I replaced the link above. It sounds like things are settling down.
