1. Well, I wasn't sure what to expect based on the experiences reported here (besides a boatload of $). But here it is, for our two TB seats that since 2002 have cost us $14.00 per game (for paying by the season ticket deadline): $138 for NLDS $400 for NLCS $28 for the tiebreaker $1080 for the Series $158 for parking ($8.00 general for the tiebreaker, $15 for the other games) $25 shipping/delivery _____________________ $1829.00 And our section did not change; in fact, we move a few rows closer to the field. My guess is that we've been ticket holders long enough to not be moved. My second guess would be that they're keeping us in the family section, except I'd be surprised if they retained family sections for the postseason (I think they did not for the all-star events). Seriously, if this whole figure were applied to future 20 game packages for our current seats, we'd be paid up through at least 2009 - 2010 if the prices did not change (though I assume they will). The most vexing thing for me is, I was kind of shaking a little (with excitement) upon opening the envelope. I hate the thought of their getting me this hyped up without delivering. So, I guess they'd better deliver.
2. how do they plan on delivering these things? I hope it would be via some reasonably secure method - both to justify the S/H charge and to reduce the chance of their falling into the wrong hands. I could see people watching the news for the "playoff tickets were mailed today" blurb and then rifling through people's mailboxes. I'm going to go out on a limb and say how pleased I am that this general conversation is even plausible (the last week notwithstanding).
3. And they are moving me from section 104 to section 204. So they've decided where you'd be sitting already? I'll be intrigued to see what comes in our mail. Not that it'll be relevant, if many more games turn out like the last five have.
4. I enjoyed the discussion of baseball strategy and the in-depth look at the series in 3 Nights in August, I just couldn't stomach the constant fawning over LaRussa and Pujols after awhile. Oh, so this isn't a book about the Brewers' last series? Sorry. I guess that would be "2 Nights and 1 Day in August." I thought the Schoendienst autobiography was all right. My library has one on Eddie Mathews which I really enjoyed, enough to buy my own copy. The Clemente biography by Maraniss is very good.
5. All-Star Sham My S.O. would love the way you think, Robin19. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif
6. Actually, I thought I saw reference to Tropical Storm Erin earlier this week (hence 5 named Atlantic storms). Also, the Pacific's up to Flossie, so they've had their share too.
7. seriously the silver lining thread is pretty ridiculous. everything in here is such a stretch to be happy about something. Finding something to be happy about, even when it's minor, is what gets some people through the day. You don't have to participate, but please don't use this thread to knock the concept.
8. If I thought there was any chance that the boorish part of cub nation would somehow become less obnoxious after cub postseason success (i.e. winning the WS), I'd consider rooting for the cubs. However, I don't think anything will cure the obnoxiousness. Also, the thought of the cubs winning during a year that for so long has held such promise for the Brewers...is too painful for me to contemplate. Geno's point made a few weeks ago about this being a rare winnable season has stuck in my mind ever since he made the post. Had the cubs succeeded in, say, 2002, I might have been more sanguine. Having said all this, the last two nights have plainly shown me that my STL hatred has really not subsided.
9. I usually keep a handkerchief in my pocket for when I don't have ready access to Kleenex. I'm too prone to doing a load of laundry and then finding pulverized Kleenex dust all over the load. I also keep one with every winter coat because my nose always runs in cold weather. I think I got my plain white ones at Penney's. I also have some old-school, pretty ones from my grandmother - although I use those more for show than for their intended purpose. If you buy handkerchiefs that you intend to use for more than show, spring for the 100% cotton. It's a lot softer than the blends.
10. This beats the living snot out of 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, etc. etc. etc. stopping briefly at 1992 and then continuing on to 1983. Aye.
11. Well, it sounds like most any outcome could have an up-side for the Brewers...as long as they get their own groove back. But for now I think I'll root for a split.
12. Found out that season ticket holders will be receiving invoices for playoff tickets any day now. I guess it's about the time for that - even though it currently feels like something of a cruel joke. When we reserve tickets for the Badger volleyball team's NCAA tournament games, they hold our credit card information and only apply a charge if the Badgers advance and host the first round. Without having heard what you guys heard tonight, I'd guess the Brewers would do something similar. Worst-case scenario is they'd charge us now and refund if the Brewers continue to falter and don't advance. I guess now we'll get an idea of which season seat holders are eligible for which post-season rounds. Was anyone else here season-seat-holding in 1997, when the Brewers were apparently "in it" enough to warrant the printing of playoff strips? The Brewers sent us a strip after the season ended. I still have it somewhere.
13. When I look back on Chris Spurling's Brewers tenure, I'm going to try to remember his improbably successful 2.1-inning stint that helped the Brewers beat the Mets in 13 innings on July 31. But then I'll note the significance of the word "improbably," and not really miss him otherwise. Thanks, and 'bye.
14. Brewers lineup for tonight, ahhh ok I wonder if Ned is putting the players' names in a Boggle-type shaker and thus generating near-random lineups. The general lineup pattern for the Houston series just didn't make me shake my head like tonight's and last night's have.
15. You mean, you'll be the fatter guy. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif Have a good time; wish I could go but my students are moving so I'm working.
16. Kent Brockman: Springfield has come down with a fever: football fever. If you have the fever, there's only one cure. Take 2 tickets, and see the game Sunday morning. Public Service Announcer: Warning. Tickets should NOT be taken internally. Homer: See? Because of me, now they have a warning!
17. Homer: Around the house, I never lift a finger, As a husband and a father, I'm sub-par. I'd rather drink a beer than win father of the year, I'm happy with things the way they are. Lisa: I'm getting used to never getting noticed. Bart: I'm stuck here till I can steal a car. Marge: The house is still a mess, and I'm going bald from stress, Marge & Kids: But we're happy, just the way we are. Ned: They're not perfect, but the Lord says "Love thy neighbor." Homer: Shut up, Flanders. Ned: Okely-dokely-do. Shary: Don't think it's sour grapes, but you're all a bunch of apes, And so I must be leaving you! [/pre]
18. Yeah, I'd say you have a beef with that first vet. I can't imagine anyone at our clinic telling us to just take a pet in obvious distress/trouble home because they're closing. But I'm glad to hear that Tyson appears to be on the mend.
19. http://www.uc.wisc.edu/olympics/images/kirk_penney_on_the_court.jpg Kirk Penney!
20. We haven't stayed in Door County before (used to make day trips there when I lived in Green Bay), but I'm a big fan of the Lake Michigan side in general, and of Whitefish Dunes State Park in particular.
21. Blame hawing, too. It looks like she was set and ready to post. Not literally. I was standing at Miller Park and thinking, "Hmm, 21, Warren Spahn'll work for that one." Tony Granato. Nice touch!
22. http://www.claremontshows.com/pics/braves/spahn/spahn14.jpg I've missed this thread. I've had this picture idea ready for almost a week.
23. Don't forget people who might have had trouble migrating to Yuku.
24. Dancing away my hunger pangs Moving my feet so my stomach won't hurt I'm kind of like Jesus But not in a sacrilegious way. (Hungry Hungry Homer)
25. Hawing this is bad very bad, thanks for helping me not work the rest of today. Sorry. But is this thread making anyone smile while on bf.net, for a change? If so, I've done my job. Originally I just needed to get the line "Why must life be so hard!..." out of my head. But here's one of my all time favorites: (Bleeding Gums Murphy on "The Cosby Show") Cliff: Hey kids! Meet Grandpa Murphy! Rudy: But we have three grandpas already. Cliff: This one's a great jazz musician. Rudy: Oh, they all are. Cliff: Oh, oh, you see, the kids, they listen to the rap music, which gives them the brain damage. With their hippin' and the hoppin' and the bippin' and the boppin', so they don't KNOW, what the JAZZ, is all about! You see, jazz is like the Jell-O Pudding Pop. No, actually, it's more like Kodak film. No, actually, jazz is like the New Coke - it'll be around forever. Heh heh heh.
