  1. Your message refers to both north and south. Do you mean the "Giants" lot, north of the interstate and off Blue Mound/Story Pkwy? If so, it may make the area hotter, but that lot could use some evening out, so it may not be all bad.
  2. theres a block party pretty close to the stadium that morning I just followed that link, and wow, I didn't realize that players were appearing at these things! I suppose they wouldn't make a road trip over to Madison. As for this weekend, we're going on Sunday too. But have a great time, bernieh. Edit: And the scheduled player appearances on Saturday - JJ, Corey, CV and Yo - that's like a hawing dream come true. Man, oh man.
  3. Can someone tell me why Ichiro would be thrilled to get an American made SUV when he could get an imported car with better gas mileage? (shrugging) Wasn't it a hybrid SUV? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Ted Williams had just died, so yeah, they painted his number in LF and renamed the MVP award for him. But here's part of the JSOnline account of what I remembered: The ceremony included a tribute to memorable moments in baseball history, with appearances by Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Cal Ripken Jr. Aaron, baseball's all-time home run king who played for both the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers, received a lengthy standing ovation. Link to whole JSOnline story I don't know how I managed to forget those "memorable moments", since they were jammed down our throats for the length of the balloting period, as well as during that pregame ceremony. Plus I believe the seat cushions they provided for that game bear the Memorable Moments logo.
  5. I thought there was a tribute to Aaron in the pregame ceremony hoopla in 2002.
  6. I think I'm the only guy in the state with UW-Superior license plates. Goooo Yellowjackets! Alma mater of Arnold too.
  7. Aw, Coco. Well...Derrick had a decent outing in last year's ASG and look how that translated the rest of the way. Maybe this stumble by Coco will bode well for the Brewers in a reverse psychology kind of way. Yes, that scraping noise you hear at the bottom of the barrel is me.
  8. I hate you, Joe Buck. Seconded!
  9. Doesn't this count, or something? This one for sure?
  10. Oh, TLB, the exhibit opens next Tuesday (July 17). So don't go just yet. Unless it's to check out some of the sweet World Series Wisconsin merchandise, which by now is probably at the museum store (with apologies for the shameless plug). Pitchleague, I haven't seen that Wisconsin Magazine of History article yet, but I'm looking forward to it too.
  11. This was mentioned earlier this season, but I haven't been able to find the initial thread. The Wisconsin Historical Museum (disclaimer - a division of my employer) in Madison is opening its World Series Wisconsin exhibit on Tuesday, July 17. It is due to feature artifacts related to the 1957 Braves and 1982 Brewers, as well as artifacts from County Stadium, photographs and fan memorabilia. For those of you who can't visit Madison between July 17 and December 2, or anyone who's too curious to wait until Tuesday, check out this link for images of some of the items on display. I know I've been looking forward to this exhibit for a while. Come justify my colleagues' hard work!
  12. I guess I'm not done yet... The Madison Metro bus I take between work and home goes near a BP gas station on old University Avenue (near the Octopus car wash, for you locals). The station is visible as we round the corner of University/Allen. I'm nearly positive I saw them changing the regular gas price to $3.49 this morning. I also noticed premium at $3.69. This would be a 30 cent increase since the bus ride home yesterday afternoon. I don't want to start a gas price vent thread - and I've mostly resisted the urge to get really out of whack over gas prices (though I admit it's relatively easy for me since we don't drive to work) - but 30 cents in one day seems drastic. This time, it's bugging me.
  13. It bugs me that if you go to Subway the people making your sub get all annoyed when you want more than lettuce on your sub. It must depend on the Subway. When I request a not-wide variety of vegetables on my subs, I get either looks that say - or outright questions that ask - "Is that all?"
  14. Prince is saving his HR power for the rest of the Brewers' season. That's my rationale and I'm sticking to it.
  15. about 4 years ago I was known to be able to recount nearly any episode of Seventh Heaven if given the prompt "that one where..." I'm going to choose to pity you. You mean like "The one where Mary gets into trouble"? or "The Camdens invite a troubled youth to live with them"?
  16. Yeah, imagine being that Amy's employee. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  17. And it took them 2 weeks to think to track her cell phone? I wondered about that too. Did they only think of it recently, or did they only recently act on a ping they'd known about from the start? Neither makes a ton of sense. But if they were out there at 4:30 AM, they had to have had some kind of pretty good lead.
  18. YTINAV Usually parked on E. Gorham St. in Madison.
  19. My memory was that the Brewers' traveling hotels never make it into the Brewers' media guide, but the opponents' Milwaukee hotels do. The 2006 media guide lists the opponents' hotels in Milwaukee (most often the Pfister). The 2007 guide doesn't even include that. I don't know what Brewers source would have this information (available to the general public). Maybe the Nationals' media guide would.
  20. Mind boggling. If there's a day in the middle of the season in which you can go ahead and "burn" your bullpen, it's the last game before the Break. No reason at all to let Cappy hang there. RoCo has summed up my thoughts nicely. Yeah, even I was driven to post here today.
  21. I'm thankful we all have a 3-day break from Brewers games. Better yet, I count a 4-day break! for most of the Brewers, anyway.
  22. with a relatively easy 10-game homestand coming up I'll knock on wood for you there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif And, lost in the crapfest that was the Nationals' sixth inning... http://www.netzfx.de/wp-content/pictures/tshirt_03.gif
  23. I wouldn't completely mind if Tim Redding assumed the near-fetal position today, much as he has in wOOgiE's post above. As long as it's not from heat stroke. No one deserves that. Go Brewers! Get to 50 today!
  24. Oh, you know, if something is remembered to be in a book in my library's collection, the challenge of finding it is hard for me to pass up. (Plus you supplied more of a description than a lot of our visitors who ask us similar questions.) I was happy to look, and happier yet to find it. That quote helped me put my finger on another reason why baseball appeals to me: there's so much precision in it. That's probably related to the order I mentioned earlier in this thread. And touching on hoophead's "first love" comment...when the All-Star starters were announced and it was apparent that Prince is the first Brewer voted to start since 1988, I realized that that's the year before I met the S.O. First love indeed. (Sorry, Madison softball, that's why I'm staying home to watch the ASG Tuesday instead of you guys.)
  25. I'm looking forward to the All-Star break as a 4-day reprieve from worrying about losing ground in the standings. Is something wrong with me? Not unless there's also something wrong with me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Though I'm going to struggle not to worry about all-star injuries and/or jinxes. After Saturday's game I went downstairs and said glumly (and mostly sarcastically) to the S.O., "The Brewers are doomed." His response: If someone had told you in March that the Brewers would be leading the NL Central at the all-star break, would you be happy or glum?
