  1. https://deadspin.com/you-could-microwave-a-hot-pocket-in-the-time-it-took-za-1834695558 Pace. Of. Play. Well over 2 minutes between pitches. I haven't been an advocate of a pitch clock, but this kind of stuff is just ridiculous. You want a faster game? There's no reason for a pitcher (Yes, Zach Greinke) to stand for over a minute with a ball on his hip, while the batter steps out not once, but twice, and then shake off the catcher when he tries to come out to the mound. There's gamesmanship, and then there's this.
  2. I know he's not allowed to block the plate but that was just bad defense by grandal.
  3. Yeah.... Neither. I want bucks/warriors in the finals. I cant wait!
  4. I think it becomes a really dangerous game when you have a 60 win team to start playing meta-games with the roster, deciding what you can replace with spare parts. I feel like Middleton isn't a max-tier player, but he's also at the same time unervalued by a lot of people. He brings more than a little bit of everything to the table. What is Middleton worth? What is he worth to the Bucks vs what is he worth to some hypothetical other team? When you (not 'you', but 'you' as in 'people') start saying 'we can replace X player's production with Sterling Brown and DDV and Wilson and Connaughton... I get concerned those guys are young, unproven, or old and bench players. (and yes, 26 or 27 is "old" in basketball parlance if you're still riding the pine, IMO). I'm just not ready to think you can seamlessly slide DJ Wilson into Lopez's spot, or Sterling Brown or Pat C into Middleton's spot and not expect a big dropoff. I could be wrong, and again, it's not my money. Tough decisions ahead. If the owners see fit to spend to keep this core together, I'll be more than happy. If a piece or two has to go, I'll trust Bud to spread the minutes out and bring the younger guys up to speed. It's just been really nice having a team this deep for once.
  5. "You can find scrap heap type guys to hit 40% of their threes" I'm going to compare two guys on our own team. Tony Snell can hit 3's, but he needs to be fed the ball, he can't create his own shot (at all, ever), he can't create step back threes, and he needs to be WIDE open to even think about taking threes. His release time is abysmal, so yes, Tony Snell can hit 40% of his threes, under almost only optimal conditions. Middleton hits less than 40%, but he takes contested threes, step back threes, threes with guys right in his face, etc, etc, etc. There is value and substance to that. There's a lot of scrap heap guys (like Tony Snell) that don't have the skill set that a guy like Middleton has to be able to create space and opportunity to take those shots. It's a bit frustrating when Middleton goes into one of his cold snaps, sure, but there's just way too much emphasis put on just shooting percentage I think. Being able to create shots for yourself has a lot of merit, and I think people undervalue that quite a bit.
  6. I made this argument on Deadspin the other day. One of their awful writers called the Bucks bench "Uninspiring". I pointed out that while G. Hill might not be the Bucks 2nd best player, during the stretch run and the playoffs, it's possible he's been their 2nd most important player, and that doesn't even begin to encompass the rest of the bench. At the end of the day, it's not my money, so it's a hard argument to make, but I hope Hill is brought back. I'll understand the dollars and cents of it if he's not, but I sure as HECK hope we get a championship out of this group before they take it apart if they make some cuts.
  7. I don't see any way that Thompson would be pointing at Milwaukee and saying "that's where I want/need to be". I also don't know if you can sign and trade and go into the luxury tax like that. Not sure on that, I'm really not sure on the specifics, just thinking out loud. I just think Middleton, streakiness and all is a more all around player. Thompson could average 25 ppg, but do the Bucks need that? They lead the league in scoring this year, so do they need to go through a sign and trade to get a guy who doesn't really rebound or do a lot of anything else to get a few more ppg that honestly, the Bucks probably don't have available either?
  8. Did you say Malcolm Brogdon can't elevate? That dude has had some nasty nasty highlight-reel dunks. I mean, he doesn't have 44-inch vertical, but he can get off the floor and throw it down. On another note, I really find it interesting that the entire narrative here is about how the Celtics underperformed. I don't mean here as in brewerfan, but here as in this series and this season. The Celtics just lost a series to a team that went 60 and 22, and I'm not sure why anyone at all should be surprised by that. I don't normally get upset by the national media ignoring or dissing the teams that I pay attention to, but the narrative around this series doesn't bother me so much as it's just really baffling. The Bucks are a better team. They showed it over 82 games. They definitely showed it over the last four games. The fact that anybody is still surprised over this outcome is just surprising to me.
  9. More than I expected from MB after the amount of time he missed. Really nice game and he really got back into the rotation smoothly.
  10. Let's get another step further this time. :D
  11. What an absolute comical sequence. Boston is mailing it in.
  12. Celtics are just not playing with any Celtic Pride. (Whatever that is). The game is there for them if they want it. The Bucks aren't playing particularly well tonight, at least on offense. They're definitely bringing it on D, but this has been a choppy, disjointed game. Like you said, Giannis has been on the bench for a bit, and when he's out there, he's not doing much.
  13. Are there snipers in these arenas? The way these dudes flop around is comical.
  14. Refs straight up put their whistles away the last 4 minutes of the first quarter. Gonna be a really physical game.
  15. "Good job by Baynes"? That's a LOT of hard contact that's not getting called....
  16. I'm sure the Bucks are going to be more than happy to have Irving continue to chuck off balance shots with 15+ seconds left on the shot clock.
  17. Only posting this because I had to look it up : The quick and dirty tip is to use “farther” for physical distance and “further” for metaphorical, or figurative, distance Haha, thanks!
  18. Ok, let me put it another way. Kyrie Irving will never be a champion on a team where he has to be "the man". Yes, he won a ring under Lebron's massive shadow (and yes, he did make the shot in game 7, but so did Steve Kerr, IIRC). Irving last night said "I have to do more. For me, the 22 shots, I should have taken 30." The Celtics went farther (further?) last year without him. He's immensely talented. He reminds me of Russell Westbrook. Amazingly talented. Could be (and maybe is) a top 5 player, but when the pressure is on, and he has to carry a team, he just wants to play hero ball. He just comes down the court and chucks up one after another ill-advised shot. Sometimes those shots go in, but that is not how great teams operate. Just .... these last 3 games, he's off balance, rushing shots. Early in the shot clock. Going into the paint and taking contested layups against a defense built specifically to keep him from scoring in the paint. Irving just feels like he could be in that class of top 10 players, but I don't think he is. But he should be. He has that kind of talent.
  19. He won one with Cleveland. Meh. That is all Lebron.
  20. Ueck never exactly analyzed the strategies of defensive positioning...the last 10 years we're lucky if we get the score, outs, count, and guys on base. Last year I listened to Ueck talk quite a bit about the bullpenning strategy and he was talking about different ways the game had and continues to change, and it wasn't at all a "back in my day" type rant, just more of a really interesting take from a guy who (I honestly thought) would grouse about pitchers not going 7-8 innings anymore etc, etc, etc. It was pretty interesting. IMO of course. Ueck seems more receptive to the changing game. of course when he came up the game was changing compared to the way it had been played from 20-30-40 years prior. I get the sense (could be wrong) Ueck just sort of rolls with things more than some of these hard-ass guys from the 70's and 80's.
