  1. Taking Davies out before he gets to the 4th rollover of the lineup is absolutely the right call. Using Claudio against any RHB at all is the wrong call.
  2. Pretty misleading. Twins are 4-3 vs. Astros, 1-2 each vs Yankees and Phillies, and haven't played too many teams that have winning records yet. After tonight they'll be 8-9 against teams with .500 records, which is obviously not great, but I think that's just misleading. The only thing you can do is play the schedule that you have in front of you. They're 36 -17 because they're a good team.
  3. The problem is Counsell continues to insist that Claudio can and should face RHB. They OPS 1.147 against him, while LHB ops .467 against him. If he was a traditional one batter LOOGY, he'd be fine, but Counsell refuses to use him that way, despite all the data saying that's exactly what he should be. Next year Claudio won't be able to be a LOOGY, so he might be out of a job.
  4. He would have been facing the top of the Twins order for the 4th time this game. Not that the results would have been any worse, but statistically speaking, that's a bad idea.
  5. the rulebook doesn't actually say it has to be presented to the umpires. "In establishing the validity of the catch, the fielder shall hold the ball long enough to prove that he has complete control of the ball and that his release of the ball is voluntary and intentional. If the fielder has made the catch and drops the ball while in the act of making a throw following the catch, the ball shall be adjudged to have been caught."
  6. From the replay, the 2B umpire did not make a call (the ump closest to Braun). Braun asked the 3B ump if it was a catch, and the ump (from what I saw) did not give any kind of affirmative or no-catch call, so Braun was kind of hung out to dry. It looked like Sedar was pointing back at 2B, but by then Braun was a dead duck. That's not "idiotic", it's just a weird play where the guy just got hung up not knowing what to do.
  7. I kinda feel for the dude that his 22 year career is just marked by that one stark moment in time. Stuff happens. Buckner was a decent hitter in a time when hitting. 290 and making contact was an offensive force.
  8. Except this is false. The Brewers have allowed 5 runs (or more) 21 times in 54 games. The Brewers are 8th out of 15 NL in team ERA at 4.33 So the "minimum" of 6 runs to win a game the majority of the time isn't really true. They've also given up the fifth most runs in the NL and have only a +14 run differential. Fifth most runs is based on games played, which the Brewers have more games than most of the teams. I'm not even arguing that the Brewers can't/shouldn't be better, but when you say things that are easily proven false (the Brewers have to score 6 runs a game to win the majority of the time), people will say "that's false".

  10. Stunning, I know. Give him one more start but if he keeps this up you're going to have to try something different. Gonzalez has been pretty solid for the Brewers up until facing the best hitting team in all of baseball.
  11. I don’t think Stearns is going to make any moves until closer to the deadline, so we’ll see how Smoak Thames Aguilar Shaw EE Abreu do over the next 5-8 weeks. I would agree with that assessment. Plenty of time yet for Aguilar especially to turn it around. I think he's really the key to seeing what kind of offensive moves the team will consider making.
  12. Giving up prospect capital to make what would appear on the surface to be a nearly lateral move isn't great business. Smoak is hitting slightly better than Thames right now, but the question that needs to be asked is do we expect that to continue? .834 would be the 2nd highest full season OPS he's ever had. Is Smoak an upgrade for the rest of the season over Thames for the rest of the season? I don't know if that's an absolute clear cut "yes", and to give up ANY kind of prospect capital for that kind of an answer, I'm not sure if that's the kind of moves the Brewers should be making at this point.
  13. I'd say anything less than 45 would be a disappointment, honestly. Either because he tails off, or misses a lot of time because of an injury or multiple injuries, 24 more dingers in 100+ games should be easily doable considering his pace.
  14. Passed away at age 69 from dementia. Dude struck out a whopping 453 times in 22 seasons. 10037 plate appearances. Sure tells you how the game has changed in a fairly short amount of time.
