  1. I'm not sure why you continue to bag on Arcia. He's on pace for 50+ walks, and has a .740 OPS, which is a pretty solid improvement for him.
  2. Lets move over to the already existing bumgarner trade thread
  3. Bumgarner's "play the right way" act is old and tired, and he's just not good enough to warrant putting up with his ego and tantrums, let alone giving up anything of value to get him.
  4. Barnes keeps getting chances because his FIP this year is 3.88 (xFIP is 4.02) and for his career is 3.59 with 9.4 K/9. His BABIP this year is .333 (unluckily high) and his LOB% is 53.4% (well below his career LOB% of 69%). He's not great - he's an average major league reliever - but he is nowhere near as bad as some here think he is. Goodness Gracious stop with the stats and open your eyes. Mop up duty pitcher, and he’s not even able to do that well. Stop quoting other posters and telling them to open their eyes or that you are the only one that sees certain things. This is really getting old. Not going to continue to ask you to stop with the combative posting style.
  5. A little bit of alpha staring and 50 grown men are ready to pretend fight. Baseball men have more fragile feelings than bi-polar pre school children.
  6. Max Muncy hit a homer about a quarter mile into san francisco Bay and red ass baby and noted tantrum thrower madison bumgarner had a fit when Mumcy stood for a few seconds to admire his moon shot. I wish someone would get up the gall to just hit madbum with a heater in the back. His "play the right way" stuff is old and tired.
  7. In and amongst all this talk of what an awful owner atanasio is oh, what I'd really be curious of, and what we'll probably never know is if during any discussion the Brewers might have had with Kimbrel or his agent is if they asked if he would be open to being a little more flexible with his role. A strictly ninth inning only 3 out closer doesn't really fit the Brewers Bullpen model, the way they operate right now. A guy who comes in to face the 6th 7th and 8th batters in a lineup in the ninth inning when the meat of the order was up the inning before, isn't really all that valuable on a given day. I understand that Hader would be the de facto eighth-inning guy but he's not always available every day, and if you want to use him for multiple Innings there might be stretches where he's not available for 2 days or more in a row. Just a thought, wondering if that ever came up with Kimbrell's camp.
  8. Ehhhh..... Segura took a big swing and dropped to a knee, and then ran out the pop fly. He was out by two steps. It's not like he popped it up and then just stood in the batters box.
  9. Hiura is a bad defender, but sending him down to AAA for 2 or 3 weeks isn't going to suddenly turn him into a mediocre or decent defender. It's just not. If Stearns wants to say "it's to work on his defense", then whatever, but pretending it's about anything other than service time manipulation is silly. That's fine and whatever, but if Shaw comes back up and hits to a .650 OPS again and the Brewers struggle to score runs, this kind of move will look really tough to justify in hindsight.
  10. I think if a player is hurt or sore just enough that it's affecting his mechanics and he knows he's hurting the team, then a short IL stay is probably agreeable. If someone is just not playing well and the team wants to free up a roster spot, I think that's where it gets a bit sticky. I think that's where the Giants ran into trouble when they wanted to put someone on the IL not too long ago.
  11. Well, Thames has a nearly .400 OBP for the last month and about half the posters here feel like we're in dire need of a 1st base upgrade so..... Perception is a funny thing.
  12. There are now six MLB pitchers who have surrendered more HR than Corbin this year & five more who have surrendered the same amount of HR as Corbin. I'd say that getting taken out of the rotation probably helped him slide down the list a bit.
  13. We lost to the dodgers because we couldn’t hit their pitchers. Period. Our pitching, especially our pen almost won the series despite our lack of offense. Again, im confident Stearns will add a quality disciplined bat, hopefully that will make a difference in the playoffs. Pretty much everyone hit fine in the Dodgers series, aside from Moose and Yelich and Braun. It's such a small sample that it's not even worth noting. 7 games is a blip on the radar. In the regular season, Yelich had an 1.129 OPS vs the Dodgers. Sometimes players go cold at the wrong time. Trying to collate that data and track anything meaningful from it, and dictate that your team construction should be based around it is a fool's errand.
  14. Here's the thing... People will bring kids to games. People will sit behind the dugouts and down the lines. There's absolutely no way anyone will pay absolute attention to a 3 hour game, even if we can make the argument that they "should" The cost of putting up some rope or wire netting against an MLB team's revenue stream is probably about negligible, so I don't even know why this is still a consideration or discussion, but it's one that we still have, on practically a national level every time someone gets absolutely smoked by a line drive.
  15. Why is the argument always "don't sit that close with kids"? People can sit wherever they want. The question should be "why aren't nets further down the line"? Better yet, why are we so afraid to be mildly inconvenienced by safety? I think when people say "don't do X,Y,Z with kids", it comes off sounding like "I don't want the fun thing I do to by mildly less entertaining so it can be fun and safe for children" Baseball should be fun and safe for everyone. I love the 'YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU'RE AT A BALLPARK!" people, as if it's a pre-requesite that every single one of the 35K attendees be at the ready to catch a 103 mph liner off a bat. How about instead of putting the onus of safety on the attendees to public events, we hold the proprietors responsible?
  16. I'm sure they're not looking at results and hits and ER, but velocity, location, control and that sort of stuff. He's gotta be maintaining velocity and hitting his targets and throwing strikes.
  17. Why? There is absolutely no need to do that. None. Miller is already a band box. Why make it a little league field? Moar Dingerz.
