  1. Now were trying to bunt to tie the game in the 4th inning....
  2. Well, theres the punchout. Here comes the dp machine!
  3. I think calling balls and Strikes from behind the pitcher through an HDTV screen is a lot easier than calling them from behind the catcher. That being said I'm not saying they shouldn't get the calls right because they've been doing it a long time and they have a lot more training on what to look for. I for one am totally okay with the day they go to robots. I would love to stand behind the catcher and see first hand what that looks like in person. I think it would be an eye opening experience. I watched a video a few years ago of a guy going to umpiring school and I don't remember who it was. He was standing behind the catcher and calling balls and Strikes and one thing I remember is he had to call the pitch right away and he kept hesitating. The instructor told him he had to call what he thought it was right away whether he was right or wrong was unimportant he had to make a call right away and be confident in his call. And they were constantly evaluating his calls with something like pitch tracks or pitchfx. And he said it was way more difficult to see from behind the catcher than what you would expect it to be and he had a new perspective. Again I'm not excusing poor umpiring....

  5. It feels like it's always been that way and until they go to robots it always will.
  6. This and the news of the passing of Darren Daulton is really making me feel old
  7. Granderson would be a clear upgrade over Broxton at this point. Even just using the numbers, he'd probably be a full win over a third of a season. Kinsler and Perez might be a wash, but Perez has value being able to play everywhere. If you nail him down to 2B, he loses some of his value. Phillips isn't as good defensively as he used to be, and I don't know if he's an actual upgrade over Perez. I'd rather have Kinsler.
  8. Yes, I did see it. You're applying how you think they should feel about losing a game (presumably, angry) to the situation. I'm sure they're not happy losing a game the way they did, and scoring 6 runs in a series. Do you think they're happy about it? Did you watch or listen to any post game interviews? My guess is this was pre-planned (with the outfits), this is something the team has been doing yearly for quite a while now. Having fun is something players HAVE to do over a 162 game season, regardless if you or anyone else wants them to be furious over losing a game. Everyone is different. How people react to winning or losing, or negative stuff at their workplace is different. I don't know how you want them to feel, but I'm sure they're not just like "Meh, it's a game, we lost, who cares?" The point is, I don't know how they feel about it, and neither do you. But I do know that them having some fun on a plane ride doesn't have ANYTHING to do with how much they do care. This was going to happen whether they won or lost today, or whether they scored 15 runs or 100 runs over the last 10 games.
  9. I know this is just how today's athlete behaves and one could argue it just keeps them loose. I guess I'm old school and wish the players cared as much about baseball as we do. But seeing them and especially Thames at the wrestling match was so lame. He really looks silly acting like that when he has been so bad since April. I'm willing to bet that a great many of them care about baseball a lot more than we do. Just because they're not mad that they lost a game doesn't mean they don't care. Being mad all the time isn't an indication of care. Having fun at your job is necessary sometimes.
  10. We have no indication that they think he does no wrong. Just because Stearns or Schlesinger don't question his in game decisions or lineup making doesnt mean that he may not be constantly evaluated behind the scenes. They may have a weekly or even daily discussion about how he is handling the team. We dont know.
  11. 1 of our 6 runs in 26 innings was caused by a wild pitch and you think bunting is a bad idea. When the offense is this bad you force runs across any way you can and swing away isnt working. I didnt say it was a bad idea. I said it wasnt necessarily the right decision. People are making this black and white, which it is not. The assumption is that Pina automatically gets the bunt down and moves the runners over. That is not a guarantee. Then you have a very poor contact hitter in Broxton. He k's 40% of the time. Youre giving up an out for potentially no advantage, and potentially giving up an out without moving runners. When people call for bunts they always assume best case scenario of runners moved over. With a man on 3rd even contact doesnt guarantee that you score thr runner. Popups, shallow fly ball, hard ground outs.... The end point is this; given the scenario its reasonable for some to argue that with a man already on 2nd, having 3 chances for a run scoring hit is better than 2 chances for some kind of run scoring contact. It wasnt a black and white "yes" for a bunt.
  12. Bunts dont always work, and with a high k guy like broxton coming up its not necessarily the right decision. Using Barnes in another high leverage situation, I just cant wrap my head around.
  13. Keep using Barnes in leverage situations. Zero sense.
  14. They have plenty of power. They happen to have several players slumping at the same time. That does not mean they have no power.
  15. Good job getting out of that with just one scoring, honestly.
  16. Come on, you know the 2B leads off!!! Counsells adherence to his lineup strategy is maddening. I was happy to see Thames and Santana leading off for a few days. Sigh.....
  17. Because he didn't throw the bat at pitches above his head? Cool, so now in addition to your "don't be negative" rule you're instituting a "don't be positive" rule. "Subject to change according to whimsy"
  18. I won't complain too much if theyre being consistent but batters have to feel a bit frustrated tonight.
  19. I know we keep going back to this, but if you said at the beginning of the year the Brewers would be a half game back on August 5th everyone, absolutely everyone would have been ecstatic. I know it's been ugly lately but they're still right there and if they can get out of this offensive funk, I like their chances.
  20. As frustrating as the Brewers offense has been to watch the Rays have had 12 baserunners tonight and 0 runs to show for it
