  1. I realize I had one of the "this could cost us the playoffs" posts.....but to be fair, it was in direct response to a post that said "it's not like this loss will cost us a shot at the playoffs...." so there is that to consider. Every win counts. Every loss counts.
  2. I love what go-go brings to the table, and I realize that with it comes some over-aggressiveness, but you absolutely, absolutely, absolutely can not get thrown out there. Sure, go ahead and make the last out at third base on occasion when you're 'being aggressive", and it would take a perfect throw to get you, but NOT when the tying run is trying to cross the plate in a low scoring game late in the game. Being aware of game situations is critical, and Gomez failed to do that here.
  3. Weeeeeeell....... We've lost 2 games in the past week with absolutely critical bonehead baserunning mistakes that cost the team runs. (Davis getting picked off very likely cost the team a run) and Gomez cost the team a run yesterday. Each loss was a one run game. That's two losses. These VERY WELL could be the difference maker between a playoff spot or sitting home in October.
  4. Nobody on first at the time, iirc.
  5. I was simply baffled at that point myself. I don't even know what to say. Someone in the game thread said that may have been the worst managed inning he's ever seen. I still think the Yost/Shouse/Burrel/Howard thing is the single worst managerial DECISION I've ever seen, but yeah.....as far as an entire inning.......Ron just .......wow. That was an epic disaster last night in the 7th. http://gifstumblr.com/images/titanic-sinking_756.gif
  6. SO you're saying Bianchi for SURE would have gotten a hit there? The .370-ish OPS guy. I mean, literally, is this thing you're doing a troll job? It has to be, right?
  7. Looks like a mix of dirt, saliva and other gross nonsense.
  8. Just have to accept the fact that some fans see things through rose colored glasses. Either that, or this is an epic troll job.
  9. How is that call reversed? and.....I don't know if it could be stated any more....but good god Roenicke is a bonehead.
  10. What a terrible time to get picked off. Why is he leading so far???
  11. Suicide, pretty much. He was halfway down the line when Schafer made contact.
  12. This is akin to saying that Roenicke has used Thornburg and or Smith as mop up guys this year. He hasn't. The closest either have come is Thornburg coming in for Gallardo and Smith coming in with a 5 run lead after he was already warmed up and the Brewers scored 4 in their half of an inning. Schafer meanwhile has ONE start this year as a leadoff hitter, and it was when Gomez was out of the lineup and we were putting out a lineup similar to a AAA lineup and had VERY poor options. Maybe part of the problem is the perception that Roenicke is "always," doing these things that he's simply not doing. I didn't say 'always', did I? Don't strawman me. Hitting a .280 OBP guy leadoff once, is one time too many. Just because he was subbing for Gomez doesn't mean he has to hit him leadoff. That's a very Yost-ian move, if ever there was one. He's also used Herrera in the leadoff spot, FWIW.
  13. Offensive outburst! FOUR runs!???!!?? Lohse isn't going to know what to do with himself this game.
  14. Even IF the Brewers could get Fielder for let's say, 15 million dollars per year, why would we want a fat, aging, poor-defense 1st baseman, who's trending downward, and give up some of the slim pickings in our farm system to do so, and continue to hamstring the payroll in the process? THere is absolutely nothing in this process that makes sense, aside from the yearly "Let's trade for Prince Fielder!" talk that inevitably comes up, well......just because he's a former Brewer.
  15. Back in 2012, in 200+ plate appearances, Herrera posted a .340 OBP. Even if he does nothing else, he showed an ability to get on base, while being passably competent at multiple positions in the field. I'm not sure why he's not taking walks this year. No explanation. The guy to add to your list is Logan Schafer. He can't hit, can't hit for power, and can't get on base. The only thing he does is play solid defense. The problem is, that's not how RRR uses him. He plays him, (and hits him leadoff!) and expects him to do things he can not do. Schafer is now 27, creeping up on a full season's worth of MLB plate appearances, and isn't approaching anything close to a big-league quality hitter. The only thing this guy should be doing is late inning defensive replacement, pinch running, or getting the occasional 'last man off the bench lefty pinch hitter" duties.
  16. I'll be happy with either Wiggins or Parker. If it's either Exum or Embiid I'm throwing things and flipping tables and never watching another game.
  17. you think he'd have those numbers playing in the NL Central? 36 K's in 102 AB (26 games!)! I mean, that is awful, sure he's hitting for power and what not but lets temper our frustration with losing him since he's played half the time everyone else has SO what you're saying is, if he were playing every day.......he'd have 16 homeruns.
  18. If you read my entire post, and not just the part you wanted to disagree with, I said "(rightfully so) got outbid for him". The meaning there is that I'm certainly glad we're not overpaying for an aging, oft-hurt, bad-kneed guy. Secondly, I should have said "the organization" and not "Doug". I realize 2012 was a confluence of bad events (both Hart and Gamel getting hurt) but that's no excuse for starting the season without an actual first baseman on your roster, and then believing Yuniesky Betancourt is EVEN so much as a band-aid in a lost cause season. I/we don't know what other options were explored, and I know Francisco is HOOOOOORRIBLE at defense, but unless his 'character flaws' were as egregious as running through the clubhouse threatening to eat other team member's newborn children, I can't see the justification for keeping (and continuing to give regular playing time) to a guy like Overbay, who will struggle to sport a .600 OPS this year. If he can't even do THAT.....bring up Morris and let the kid sink or swim, service time be damned.
  19. Does Doug have ANY semblance of a long term plan at 1st base for this team? Don't tell me "Hunter Morris", as the minor league numbers don't warrant it, and he'd have been given a shot by now. Last year we ran a clown car full of the worst first basemen MLB has ever seen out there, and this year we have a sub-.600 OPS guy on pace for 350+ plate appearances. Yay! He can play defense! He can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag anymore. Doug hit the panic button when Hart got hurt, then (probably rightfully so) got outbid for him this year, but his plan in the intervening 200+ games has been a patchwork of absolute crap, and the only guy in the minors who looks like he MIGHT be an answer is a guy the organization seemingly has no interest in giving a shot.
  20. That's entirely debatable. The Brewers won the division by 5 games, and would have still had a more than reasonable shot at the wild card if you replace Marcum with a hypothetical league average starter.
  21. Ain't nobody catching the Rockies in that category. Those guys are going to score 900 runs possibly.
