  1. Why are we assuming a 36 year old will be able to 'barely move'? Brauns a good athlete. Yes, he'll likely have lost a step or 2 at 36, but isn't 'barely move' a bit of an exaggeration?
  2. http://brewersbeat.mlblog...rgan-expected-to-hit-dl/ This sucks. Nice for Boggs, but not so much for Morgan.
  3. I'm not one to approve the offering of long term contracts for sentimental reasons, or before it's really necessary. But in this case, I see some reasoning behind it. Yes, there's risk involved. But the potential reward vastly outweighs the risk, IMO. 16 mil for a cOF in 2020 probably will be about the going rate for league average, in all reality.
  4. AMEN to this. If he stays healthy, he'll be pushing what, 2,300 hits? 400 homers at this point? He'll be the 2nd Brewer to (hopefully!) be going into the HOF as an 'exclusive' Brewer.
  5. Obviously would love to know the details on dollars, and how this might affect (positively or negatively) future negotiations with any other guys for long term deals.
  6. It's always amazing to me how much baseball, and people associated with it, are interested in digging up things from the past that shed baseball in a harsh light. Something I've never quite understood, honestly.
  7. I read the whole article. That situation is a ghastly mess. I can't see someone being real eager to jump in on that.
  8. I got my Tron Legacy DVD from Netflix yesterday. Somehow, I expect that I'm going to be somewhere between mildly disappointed and 'meh'. I guess I'll find out later.
  9. Gomez has been nothing short of outstanding in the field the last few days (and really, all year). It's just too bad the guy sucks at the dish.
  10. That play, yeah. That was a bad hop, but he was poorly positioned. He could have been trying to backhand it with Victorino running, that's gonna be a tough out. Huh, I just made an excuse for him. I must not be a hater after all.
  11. Is Kotsay and Reed on RR? We don't know exactly how much input Melvin gave a rookie manager when making the final cut downs. At least on Kotsay, given that Melvin signed him to a MLB contract, that has to be on Dougie.
  12. Mental illness? That would be my guess. Some people have a compulsion to shoplifting just as some people have a compulsion for gambling and other stuff.
  13. What's with the rapid-fire browser releases? We've been on 3.x for what? Well over a year now? I can see pushing updates and whatnot, but 2 months seems like an awfully short lifespan for a browser. Are we sure these aren't more like 4.x updates that they're just renaming 5 and 6?
  14. Braun has completely, unbelievably stunk up the joint in LF this year. Still, a bad left fielder won't (shouldn't) cost you as many runs as a bad SS. That's the crux of the argument here. A bad SS can cost you more runs than just about any other position.
  15. Any manager that doesn't manage his bullpen by 'The Book' is absolutely lambasted when things go wrong. If you manage by "The Book", you can't get blamed for poor bullpen management, you can just blame the pitchers who don't perform in their designated roles. (Fwiw, I think "The Book" is asinine)
  16. Last year my sister called me at 1 pm on Thanksgiving Day, and asked me and the wife to come over for dinner. Um.........kinda busy at this point.
  17. I'm not worried about the guy's ERA, lord knows ERA doesn't tell you much to begin with, and especially for relievers, it's a poor measure of what's going on. I guess my early season concern is watching the guy pitch, he's all over the place, and just not hitting the strike zone, and when he does, it's meatballs. Routinely seeing the catcher reach 6" or more tells me that the location is the big problem here. He doesn't look like he's pitching hurt, he just looks like he's completely off on spotting it where he wants to. I'm not at all ready to Turnbow the guy, but he needs to turn it around pretty quick.
  18. I have kept my complaining about Betencourt in one thread, this thread. What gets tired is being told what kind of fan I'm supposed to be. Or being told to 'accept' that we have a terrible shortstop. No, I don't accept that. I'm not rampaging through the forum (or .........'raging') about Betencourt being our shortstop. it's in THIS thread, the thread that's about Betencourt. I don't see why that's so offensive to your sensibilities. I love the 'me angry, must keep typing' nonsense. As many times as the Betencourt detractors have complained about him, you and others have just as many times came right back and defended him, but that's ok? It's not like the Betencourt detractors are making things up when we cite statistics and scouting reports that all point to the fact that the guy sucks. If that's 'angry', I'd hate to see REALLY angry in your opinion. This is a FORUM, where people will discuss and even debate, and sometimes debates become heated. I haven't seen any name calling here or derogatory remarks (except yours, your 'me angry' nonsense). As much as people complain about Betencourt, I see COMPLAINING about dissenting opinions. Me personally? I don't want to post on a forum where everyone just consents that we're all fans of a team, and never complain about anything. "That guy's good!" "Quite right!" "I agree!" "Indeed!" "Oh yes!" Yeah, that sounds fun.
  19. I know. I addressed that in my post. Multiple times. That doesn't mean that I'm peachy keen about Betencourt being the starting SS of the Milwaukee Brewers today.
  20. Straw, you've clarified that you do hope for an improvement at SS at the deadline, so I can buy that. However, these games in April count just as much towards the final standings. that being said, I know that trade options in April are going to be extremely limited. I think most of people's frustrations come from the fact that once we acquired Betencourt, Melvin was (at least seemingly) content to stand pat at that position. Were there better options? Maybe. It's a moot point now. However, my frustration isn't with your viewpoint, you've openly said "I hope for an upgrade come July", my frustration is with the "let's give him a few more at bats" people. I no more expect Betencourt to have an OPS over .700 in July than I would expect McGehee to have an OPS below .700 in July. Too much history to suggest he's going to suddenly become a viable offensive player. No other option exists, understood, I can buy that. But the 'let's give him a chance to see what he can do because I don't trust 7 years worth of stats, scouts, and fans in KC and Seattle" is just as asinine as the people who are clamoring for an upgrade (like me) when there probably isn't one to be had right now. The guy sucks, we're stuck with him for now. Myself and others will continue to rant about how much he sucks. Others will (I'm sure) tell us to stop complaining. My simple answer. No.
  21. Nice little 2 out rally from Gomez and Braun. And Raul Ibanez......my daughter could have gotten that ball in with more on it than that. Wow, that dude has NO arm.
  22. He was still a few steps on the SS side of 2nd on that. Most SS's make that play without having to do the little 'spin move' that he threw in there.
