  1. I have US Cellular, and I'm all over southern wisconsin, and I NEVER lose signal. Their coverage is so much better than AT n T's that it's not even a comparison. I also really like the flexibility on the US Cell contract. I can add, remove, or change just about anything, even the minutes. I can take everything down to a bare bones number of minutes, with no features, without messing up my contract. I have the family plan with 2 additional lines, and even those can be dropped without messing up the contract. The only 'contract' line is the first one I had. I have the data plan on 2 of the 3 phones, and that can also be dropped, as it's not part of the contract stipulation.
  2. Given some of TH's bombastic blogs and posts in the past......I'm inclined to consider the possibility that these were his own postings.
  3. You seem pretty sure he's lying about it.Let's just say it sounds fishy.
  4. I used to be a cheap-ass. I would buy the absolute cheapest of whatever it was I was buying. 4 years ago, I needed a new mower. I went to wal-mart, and bought a $119.00 mower. I took care of it, changed the oil, plug, etc, and after one season, it wouldn't start the following year. The motor just wouldn't turn. Junk. I needed a new power drill. I bought a $19.00 "TOOL SHOP" drill. It last 8 months. I went back and bought a $79.00 Black and Decker, that has ran for 4 years with no trouble. I don't know how many $6.00 mice I bought for my PC, before I finally broke down and bought a $30.00 mouse that has worked fantastic ever since. You'd think I'd learn my lesson, but I don't, and I won't. If I'd have just bought the $200 dollar mower, 79 dollar drill, and 30 dollar mouse, I'd have MORE money now than I do, if I hadn't wasted a lot of money on crap. The cheap stuff SHOULD work. It SHOULD. But we ought to know by now, but it's not going to. Unfortunately, that's the way the game is played.
  5. Ah, the old "someone hacked my account' play. I tried that once. Nobody fell for it.
  6. When we moved into our new house, a few odd things occurred that were tough to explain.......at first. 1.) After a few months in the house, I was sitting on our bedroom floor, watching tv late at night. A silver orb floated down the hallway, and then dissapeared into the dining room. I honestly about crapped. I sat there a while, and it happened again. I got up, walked down the hallway into our darkened living room, stood, and waited. Sure enough, as I stood there, a car came around the corner, and as they went up the street, the headlight hit my front bay window just perfectly, and sent a silver ball of light up my hallway on the wall, til the car passed my house, and the orb 'dissapeared' into my dining room. So several months later, I'm again sitting on the bedroom floor in the evening, when the bathroom door licked shut. Now this is a hollow core door, so it swings easy. It's got a good doorknob/jamb so it does take at least a minimal amount of force to make it click shut. I got up, investigated, found no reason the door would shut. I open it again. Once the fall came, and heating season kicked in, we leave the bathroom door open a crack because there's no exterior walls on teh bathroom, and it gets hot as h-e double hockey sticks in that room. So about an hour later, the bathroom door shuts again. Now I have an idea of what's happening. I get up, open the door about 4 inches. I turn off the furnace. I wait a few minutes. Turn it back on. Turn the thermostat up to about 75. Sure enough, when the heat kicks on, the register in the bathroom has just enough gusto to shut the bathroom door softly. Now, I've seen these "ghost hunting' shows a few times, and I honestly think 98% of what people think are ghosts are crap like what I found that can be easily explained if you take a half hour and do a little investigating.
  7. I don't think it should be up to the players to be choosing the manager.
  8. Mods, I hope this conversational topic is specific enough to warrant it's own thread.......this is more about clubhouse animosity with Macha and the boys. http://gazettextra.com/ne...ha-reflects-lost-season/ excerpts... "If the effort wasn't reciprocated, then there's not a whole lot I can do about it. You can't force guys to do that," Macha said as he drove home to Pittsburgh after his early-morning meeting with general manager Doug Melvin. "Some guys were open to discussion and some guys weren't, I guess. "I talked a lot to Ryan almost every day, but he does his own thing. He's going to do what he wants to do. Later in the article......... "Those are the two guys, but the rest of the guys, it was all positive," said Macha, who was reported to have had tenuous relationships with certain players while managing Oakland from 2003-'06. "I opened up to (Braun and Fielder) but you have to have a back and forth. That never really happened." I'm not sure that I like this about Macha. I like our brash young superstars to strut a bit....... Macha put a stop to the over-the-top and sometimes gaudy celebrations and strongly suggested to Fielder and Braun that the team stop pulling out their shirttails after victories, an act that drew ire from other teams. The players agreed to stop that practice. Despite heeding Macha's requests, Braun and Fielder play with brashness and flair and didn't like being harnessed, though neither publicly expressed that sentiment. Do Braun and Fielder (in the unlikely event that he's a Brewer next year) need to go with the flow a bit more, or does our manager to be need to let the guys 'do their thing'? Keep in mind, this is NOT a "who is our next manager" discussion. More about the personality of the clubhouse.
  9. Quit ruining it for us nerds that want to believe! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif J/K of course. There's got to be a real world explanation. It's not at all a stretch to believe that in China the military wouldn't coordinate an event with civilian airports.
  10. Well, at least I ate my lunch before reading this. Sure glad we fired Macha for this.
  11. Which is why I said it was nitpicking. I don't disagree with the premise, just the terminology. Were it me, and I don't hold everyone to my standards, I'd be angry enough that I'd confront the guy. I do NOT consider someone that wouldn't do so any less a person.
  12. Not to nitpick, but we suspect he's carrying a gun. By the original story, it sounds like he was told "I have a gun", I don't know going back and reading that the gun was ever shown. Not that that changes a whole lot. But it does seem that there should be some recourse here. The guy goes to a known spot.
  13. I honestly believe Hoffman wouldn't coach somewhere away from San Diego at this point. His comments about family make that abundantly clear.
  14. So you wouldn't have given that contract to Braun or Gallardo? You would have gone year to year with them like Prince? Braun and Gallardo aren't anything close to comparable to guys like Wes Helms, Scott Podsednik, Brady Clark, etc, etc, etc.
  15. They don't, never said they do. Not arguing that it's true. That's exactly why I put "knowledge" in quotation marks - no idea if its true, but people think it is.Well, ..........I live in Madison, but even out here, it's common "knowledge" that Milwaukee cops only care about parking tickets and jaywalking. So either that's true, or MPD is bad at public relations. Either way, it's their own fault, not the general public's. Hating people for having an opinion isn't cool. So what you're saying is, that the Milwaukee PD should be putting energy towards improving their public perception in Madison, because the "perception" that people in Madison have is that the only thing Milwaukee cops care about is writing jaywalking tickets? By saying "so either it's true, or it's bad public relations", you're opening it up for people to ask the question I did. How would people in Madison (or any other area away from Milwaukee) have this intimate "knowledge" of what Milwaukee cops are or aren't doing? You throw out a gross generalization, back it up with nothing, and then say "I didn't say that" when you're called on it. I don't hate someone for having an opinion, but forming it on baseless heresay is pretty weak. You've basically said that the MPD has done *something* to deserve this reputation, but can back the statement up with nothing, and wonder why some take umbrage at that. When I worked in Milwaukee, my job required regular interaction with Milwaukee city and Milwaukee county officers and sherrifs. I never got the impression that I was in imminent danger of getting a parking ticket (of which I've gotten 3 in Madison) or a jaywalking ticket.
  16. One thing he did in the past that I didn't care for was give multi year deals to pre-arby guys, or guys that simply didn't need to be bought out, after they had given exactly ONE year of decent production. (Helms, Podsednik, eg) I realize the multi years weren't financially crippling or anything, I just didn't see the point of needlessly rewarding these 'scrap heap' guys who came along and had one nice year with multi year deals when they were under team control anyways. If nothing else, reward them after they prove consistently year to year that they are a quality player.
  17. How would the general populace of Madison have intimate knowledge that Milwaukee cops only care about parking tickets and jaywalking? Since it's public perception (in a city 60 miles away) it must be true?
  18. The Brewers are (hopefully) not in a position where they can give a guy 2 years to learn on the job while struggling to maintain a .280 OBP. Gomez HAS to understand that the length of his baseball career at this point is directly tied to his ability to draw a walk once in a while and make himself a useful offensive player. I would certainly hope that before 2 more years are up, someone would be able to quantifiably identify that he either is or isn't going in the right direction. Right now, I'd say he's not.
  19. I don't have TDS, but will recommend it over AT & T
  20. If a deal ca be reached with Weeks (call it 8 years, $70 million - a $10 milion bonus and $7.5 million a year), then perhaps Fielder can be convinced to take a lower figure (say 8 years, $100 million - $10 million bonus and $11.25 million a year). OK, the Brewers might have to find a new position for Lawrie (if Escobar does NOT improve on a .600 OPS, I think Lawrie's new position will be blindingly obvious), but I'd rather have Rickie and Prince slugging FOR the Brewers instead of some other team.Prince will demand Texieiria type money, and he may well get it from an AL team. Him signing for less than 12 mil per has about a 0 percent chance of happening.
  21. Take that jumping ability and increase the dog's size by 150% and you have the akita. Zaphod looks like this clumsy oaf but can jump a 6' fence. If your shiba looks nearly as cool while romping as my Akita does it has to be fun to watch. Only problem with both Shibas and Akitas is they usually don't catch and retrieve more than 8 times. Hard to play skip dog with them. We were told, and of course read that Shibas and Akitas are not 'fetch' dogs and don't have big attention spans when it comes to those types of games. But Argo's obviously the exception to the rule there. He will play fetch with the same toy for an hour if you keep throwing it for him. With my lab and other dogs, if they couldn't SEE their toys, they simply didn't exist. Now if Argo wants to play fetch and the toy he wants isn't in his basket, he'll tear the crap out of the house looking for it, so simply hiding a toy from him does no good.
  22. You go to any website, and look at pitchers in the early part of the 20th century, and it's clear to see that the vast majority of the "toughguys" that threw 300-350 innings a year were done in 4-5 years. It's easy to point out Walter Johnson and Cy Young and say "look what they did', but just like now, they were the *exception to the rule* as far as guys who could do that year in and year out for more than a few years before their arms turned to jell-o. I love it whenever someone uses a Hall of Famer as a comparison to why players should be able to do something routinely. (Not that anyone has done so in this thread, but it happens)
  23. Yeah, I'll work on the pictures later. The thing that's really sad to me, as the Shiba becomes a more popular breed here, is I see a LOT of FAT friggin Shiba's. People think they're SOOOOO Cute (well gosh, when they're puppies, they look like a cross between a baby polar bear and a fox) and they have to have one. They think it's a little lap dog and it's not. They're really little monsters. Heh.........I digress. They require a ton of exercise. Lucky for me, we're able to be active, and promote an active and healthy lifestyle for our shiba. He's about 23 pounds, and really, built like a brick.........craphouse. He's very very rugged, can jump nearly shoulder high on me (I'm 6'0 even) and has on occasion, knocked our couch completely over when launching into it on his many romps up and down the house. And he lets us know when we haven't walked/run/roughhoused enough, trust me. He's an awesome little dog, but not one that I would recommend for many would be dog owners, unless they understand what they're getting into right from the start. Ok, just added to my yuku album. Argo this summer in the backyard, looking clueless. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/edd358a79ae7874319bb0201c677ee089a78da9.jpg Baby Argo in 2008 looking extra adorable. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/2d135ff294668da713620b5acf0fdf30f57e68d.jpg I also want to add/edit this post, as I read it back, I see how it might be read that I think I'm a better/more prepared dog owner than someone else, and that's not the case. Even after a lot of research of different breeds that we thought fit what we wanted to go with, and having finally decided on a Shiba, we were somewhat unprepared for the energy this little monster would require. Not that any other dog is 'easy' to raise and train, but I've had , 2 Labs, a Samoyen(sp), and a Pintscher(sp?) and the Shiba was definitely the most demanding dog I've ever trained. I was very lucky in that I was a bricklayer at the time we decided to get this new dog, and I was laid off over the winter, so the first 2 1/2 months of his life here, I was a stay at home dad. That went a long ways towards getting him established here.
  24. If Anderson WASN'T on roids, I'll eat my hat.
  25. I have a Shiba-Inu (basically a miniature Akita) and was told by my vet that I need to watch him around small kids, because the Shiba has one of the highest bite pressure per square inch of all dogs that fit in the 'small' dog category (25 pounds or less). He got into a scrap when the neighbor's dog (beagle) dug a hole under MY fence and got into my yard, and tore the other dog up pretty good. ANYwhoo, for the most part, he's a big baby, loves people, and won't bite when he plays. He's 100% energy though, and is a LOT of work. He doesn't get along with other animals at all though. Here's almost 3 year old Argo. http://thumbp1.mail.vip.gq1.yahoo.com/tn?sid=1332030709&mid=AHB8v9EAAIG9TJg%2Brgc%2FpjVkpvc&midoffset=1_18805&partid=2&f=380&fid=Inbox Little Argo when he was 7 weeks old, and his legs were about 3" long......... (sorry about pic quality, this is actually a photo of a photo) http://thumbp1.mail.vip.gq1.yahoo.com/tn?sid=1332030709&mid=AHB8v9EAAKaZTJhEQgqYNwsj24U&midoffset=1_19271&partid=2&f=380&fid=Inbox
