  1. Pah! I called for Hart to be moved to first base after a Fielder trade way back in May! I was told his splits were awful and he should be platooning! But anyways, enough patting myself on the back about a lucky guess that Hart would hit ok all year. (He's still got September to prove me wrong, FTW), but I would wholly endorse a Fielder for pitching, Hart to first move.
  2. Here's a thought (and probably a bad one), but if it did work out that Dickerson were an everyday player in '11, and he continues to show the OBP skill that he's displayed so far (.370-ish OBP) would he be a candidate to hit leadoff and let Rickie hit in a more run producing spot in the order?
  3. Maybe Dickerson will be the Nelson Cruz that we shouldn't have let go. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  4. Nice move for next year. I liked Dickerson when he came up. I even liked him in '09. Despite not showing any power, he still drew a lot of walks and carried a .370 OBP for 300-ish plate appearances. He only had 1 walk in 45 this year. I have to consider that an anomaly given the sample size, and hope that he bounces back and shows good OBP skills again next year. Like others, I don't want to see him platooning with Cain, but it also wouldn't be the end of the world if this guy ended up getting 250 plate appearances either.
  5. I'll tell you what's bugging me. I have on a few occasions (including today) had a family member or friend ask me to do something extraordinarily unethical (and illegal) with information that I have access to from my workplace (or in many cases, actually don't have access to). Before it was little stuff, but the request I received today was horrendously over the top. Obviously I can't and won't go into greater detail, but for someone who's supposedly close to me to ask me to do something so blatantly illegal, which could threaten not only my employer, my job status, and could well land me in jail were I to actually follow through has me so righteously pissed that I can't even think straight concerning this issue. I feel obligated to take this information to the authorities, and that puts me in a terrible position as well.
  6. He focuses on his players more than most owners in any sport.I'm sure you could infer that that's not exactly what I meant.
  7. Wow, I'm definitely in the minority here. Heck, I appear to be a singularity!. Now, a couple things. I'm not in favor of a continuation of the "good ol' boys club", and I do love to see change implemented when it makes the game better. In those aspects, yeah, Cuban would be a refreshing change for the game. I just would rather the focus be on the players, and Cuban definitely isn't that type of owner. I sure as heck would not want to see him the owner of the Brewers, I don't care if he would increase the payroll by whatever he could afford.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com...lb/news/story?id=5436579 I can't stand this tool. His "I made billions on the internet so I get to do what I want" act is old and tired.
  9. Never thought I'd say this about someone reaching 600 dingers.........but..........*yawn*.
  10. Where are you getting that information?Oh. I don't know, the 'untucking', the 'grenade' home run celebration, the 'run off' homerun....mostly the fact that I've seen these guys 'admire' scores of home runs, but I don't remember a one of them ever charging the mound (Prince's under the stands rampage flanked by security at Dodger stadium doesn't count). I guess that the fact they are getting drilled a full 2/3 over the major league average is just some weird statistical anomaly - especially when you combine that with the fact that they are leading the league in home runs. It's one thing to state the facts. They hit a lot of homeruns, they get hit by a lot of pitches. Neither of these are disputable. "they have the reputiation of being cocky young punks" though? I'd like to know what you've heard from insiders that allowed you to take that leap, beyond anything more than pure speculation.
  11. I disagree. There is a reason that the Brewers get hit so much. They have the reputation of cocky young punks without the brass (and now skills) to back it up.Where are you getting that information?
  12. Wow, did he actually say that? 5 years in the big leagues, and he still doesn't understand *tact* one bit.
  13. I'm sorry AJAY, but seriously? You were one of the guys screaming about Cory Hart going to arbitration after the 'awful' year he had. You want him to get lowballed, and have to play in whatever city he's drafted by, forever and ever? And the players compensation, in this scenario is 'more money'. I guess it doesn't occur that some guys want to play where they want to play, regardless of the money. This sense of entitlement astounds me. That a player should not have ANY choice in which city he lives and plays EVER just so fans can feel a false sense of *loyalty* is a terrible idea.
  14. Exactly what I was going to post about! We know this: Fielder, 26, will become a free agent after the 2011 season, and there’s a very good chance that the mid-market Brewers will deal their first baseman between now and then. We are stepping UP in the world!
  15. None of the previous closer's flameouts should be used to judge Axfords future performance.
  16. All it takes is once. One time for someone to jump on the field and assault/stab/(or even shoot) a player or ump. Oh wait. That already happened. Tase these idiots. This shouldn't be happening.
  17. Have been using Firefox for about 5-6 years, but also have Opera and Chrome on my main desktop. At work we're still on IE6, though upgrading to 8 shortly. We can use firefox, but a lot of the applications I use were designed with IE in mind. Interestingly, when I worked on the residential help desk, I find that about 95% of the people that call in use IE. Of course, these are the types of people who are calling the help desk because they don't know what the "Address Bar" is, so it's not surprising that most of those folks are going to be using the pre-installed browser.
  18. How is it extreme or not even remotely realistic? I came up with two 'extreme managers' off the top of my head, who account for 1/16th of the managers in MLB. They're not the only ones, but they're definitely cream of the crop. But I will still stand by my point that I see no realistic reason to believe that IF a manager wants to hit Braun, next time the Padres roll into town, drilling Adrian Gonzalez isn't going to make them NOT do that. I just don't believe that to be true. They hit Braun (on purpose, for instance), so you turn around and drill Gonzalez (about the only Padre worth hitting) and I *do not believe* that it ends there. From there, these things almost always escalate to next level, which results in MORE beanings, more potential injuries, fines, and ejections. And, in the case of something a few posters want to see, maybe even on field brawls. I'm not trying to single out your posts Danzig, I just honestly don't believe a retaliation for a believed 'on purpose' beaning settles the issue. I think in many cases, it makes things worse.
  19. I feel it's stupid to retaliate because *in my opinion* it never 'sends the message'. If it did, wouldn't Larrusa's guys not get hit, ever? Wouldn't Ozzie Guillen's guys not get hit, ever? Retaliation doesn't EVER end with a "you got us and we got you so now we're finished". It usually escalates until 2-3-4 guys are hit, someone's hurt, and a handful of guys are fined and ejected. If someone has empirical proof that retaliation keeps their guys from getting hit in the future, I'd love to hear it, because I honestly don't believe it one bit.
  20. If this were true, wouldn't *intentional* beanings no longer happen? Players have been hit since baseball started. Teams have retaliated since baseball has been played. Players *still* get hit intentionally. Retaliation has never solved the problem that I can see.
  21. The whole "Bob Gibson knocked you down" argument gets old. http://www.baseball-refer...layers/g/gibsobo01.shtml Gibson's career high in HBP was 13. He hit 10 batters in a season 4 times. I've even heard people say Gibson hit every batter that ever hit a homerun off of him (not in this thread mind you)......but 257 career HR does not = 102 career hit batters. By this measurement, Jamey Wright (136 career hit batters) was much more passionate about the game than Bob Gibson. McCann *needed* to get a high hard one in the shoulder blades for running slowly around the bases? That's nothing short of immature. Showboating + violence = problem solved. Violence + violence = problem solved. Got it. I'll file that away for future reference.
  22. In my opinion, a suspension is the best response to a clearly intentional beaning here. Nobody needs to retaliate, and again, in my opinion, a suspension is a much stronger message than "if you hit one of ours, we'll hit one of yours".
  23. Exactly. A guy threw over a batters head, and then hit him on the next pitch. 10 game suspension. Problem solved. "Retaliation" for hit batters is one of those silly 'that's the way it's always been' things that needs to just go away.
  24. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5390365 This ought to be an interesting topic. I for one am glad that Macha/our pitchers don't take the 'retaliation' route. All it ever leads to is more trouble. (edit: added suspension information to title --1992)
  25. I would certainly agree that in the context of the quote, he wasn't using bvp splits as a predictive tool. I read it as "he's got these guys out in the past, and today he didn't". and nothing more than that. So in that aspect, I agree.
