  1. There's no law of averages that says there must, by nature, be a hot streak for each corresponding cold streak. I'm not saying this is necessarily what you're saying, but I do see that bandied about a lot. With the rotation as it's currently configured, I can't honestly see any kind of extended hot streak coming. Gallardo's good, but inconsistent. Looper and Parra are mediocre, Bush and Sup are on the the DL, and every other option pretty much.....sucks, to put it bluntly. It's hard to have any kind of sustained success if you're getting no better than sub-par pitching 4 starts out of 5.
  2. Hall couldn't possibly have "straightened himself out" in the few days he was down there. If he's on the bench, he's back in the same situation he was in before, and if he's playing, he's an offensive black hole. There has to be someone else they could have pulled up so Hall could stay down and play everyday. Even Corey Patterson could have been stuck on the end of the bench and get the occasional pinch-hit (out) at bat instead of bringing Hall back up to do nothing. I don't think going to AAA was going to be a magic cure-all, but he's not going to get himself out of this mega-slump by playing 1-2 days a week in RF either.
  3. If Looper was pitching to his expected level, the team would be better than 13-9 in his starts. They've had to score 7+ runs in his starts to be playing .590 ball. They should realistically be about 16-6 in that same span.
  4. Now, I'm not saying 'fire Melvin.' I'm not jumping off any bandwagons... I'm just disappointed and more than a little heartsick that a decade's worth of careful drafting and team building has gotten us to here - a place where finishing a season at .500 looks like a legitimate goal again. I don't disagree. Read my whole post. You'll clearly see that I'm not happy with the plan, IF the plan truly was to wait and see what was available mid-season. I'm saying that we've waited all these years, we had a playoff team, and now we're not even through the next season and people are bailing. I'm not optimistic about the season, but I'm not going to stop being a fan, and I'm not going to "divert my rooting interests elsewhere", that's all I was getting at. But I surely hope our rotation is "fixed" before next opening day.
  5. I wouldn't expect a team starting 3 rookies plus a guy with less than 150 MLB at bats to do much more than win 70-ish games. Katin would be lucky to put up a .275 OBP at this level.
  6. Sign him in September, when we're well out of it, and allow him to play the last home game of the season. Be nice to see him *retire* as a Brewer.
  7. Seriously though, 6 fights for 30 million dollars, allowing him to compete in sambo, allowing him to advertise all he wants for M1, a cut of the pay per view sales and exemption from the video game. What else does this guy want? Sorry but there is no way the UFC should allow M1 to co-promote. The fact that Fedor turned this down, (The only concession that I question is the dollar amounts, that seems a bit high), really makes me think Fedor has no interest in actually fighting in M-1. I know other's will disagree, but I still contend that it's difficult to call him the best in the world when he's fighting in the minor leagues. A poster on an MMA forum said it best. "Imagine when the USFL folded, and many NFL teams were looking at Warren Moon, who was viewed as an extraordinarily gifted passer. Imagine that Moons agent said "Well, we'll sign with you, but it has to be for twice as much money as anyone else in the league, AND I want half of all the per-game revenue, because I'm good enough that I deserve it" That's basically what Fedor's people are asking for here. People can say what they want about Dana, but there's *no way* they need M-1 to help co-promote their shows, and there's no way they should capitulate to these demands. UFC does not need M-1, or Fedor, to survive.
  8. For the record, Peavy would not have been a stop gap. And we really don't know who the mysterious pitcher in the three-team deal that didn't happen was either, I guess. Either Peavey or Hallady would have been nice additions, but not at the cost that it would take to acquire them. I think what people are getting at is if the "plan" any year we're in contention is to give up our top prospects, is a rotten plan for 2 reasons. 1.) There's no way to know who's going to be avaiable, and what the price will be. This season is a classic example. The defense of Doug is that "everyone who was available was hurt". But that's exactly WHY it's a terrible plan. They're pitchers! Pitchers get hurt! I read somewhere (maybe the Gallardo thread) that 65% of all MLB pitchers spent time on the DL last year. 2.) Let's say we're in a 4 year period where we expect to realistically contend. Giving up prospects, even 3 years out of 4 is going to really make a huge dent on your system, talent-wise. We didn't get to the playoffs because we traded Fielder, Hardy, Braun, Hart, Weeks, etc, we made them because we kept them. And yes, we traded for CC Sabathia. But if we trade Escobar and Gamel for Halladay this year (plus others) and then trade Lucroy and Laurie and Green for a pitcher 2 years from now, what core is going to make a playoff run 2-3 years after that? I'm not against making the occasional trade of prospects to bolster the team, but that simply can't be the plan even 2 years in a row, or the whole philosophy that finally allowed us to put together a team to get to the playoffs for the first time in 26 years is shot. NEEDING to get there last year was different. CC allowed us to get the proverbial "monkey off the back" and showed the casual fans that pay the bills that this isn't "the same old Brewers". Finally making the playoffs bought a lot of good will from those fans. Quite frankly, I'm disgusted by how many people who claim to be Hardcore Fans are already jumping off the bandwagon this year. They're not going to make the playoffs, they're probably not going to finish .500, but they still have a good core of talent. It just needs to be augmented in a better way than "I'll see what's available in July.
  9. I don't care if Patterson goes to AAA and hits. 400 with a 1.350 OPS, his major league body of work is clear cut indicator that, well, quite frankly, he sucks.
  10. 6-10 since the ASB and we've only played 3 games against a better than .500 club. I don't think any program that leads to success has us playing .375 ball against the bottom half of the league.
  11. My previous post offered nothing in the way of constructive solutions, so I'm back. As far as pre-emptive methods, one thing I'd look at is diet. The way you eat can have a lot do with how well your immune system functions. Altering the diet, as well as potentially including some children's vitamins might go a long way towards promoting better health and immune systems ability to fight off or prevent infection. As far as specifics, I'd talk to your son's doctor (or a different doctor, if you're losing patience)
  12. I had back problems for years. I subsequently was going to a chiropractor for years. I finally went to a doctor. I got a cortisone shot, followed by 6 weeks of therapy. My back has been fine 99% of the time since then. I had tendonitis in my right elbow. At the urging of my holistic healing crazy boss, I went to a chiropractor for a few months. I questioned this method of treatment, and asked the chiropractor and his junior partners if they would have the ability to diagnose and refer me to a real doctor if he felt I wasn't responding to chiropractic treatment. He assured me that he would. I went to a real doctor after 3 unseccesful months of chiro treatment (as well as to the visible disgust of the chiro who thought I was "resonding well"), and my elbow was in such terrible shape, they had to do TJ surgery. This was likely caused by the delay in seeking actual medical help. I don't doubt that there's chiropractors out there who ply their craft skillfully, and to the benefit of many of their patients. I do strongly doubt that it's a catch all wonder cure for just about everything that many chiro's claim it to be.
  13. http://www.sherdog.com/ne...e-tried-everything-18850 Accoring to Dana's side of the story, they were willing to meet all of Fedor and M1's demands except co-promotion. I think it's gotten to the point where they shouldn't bend over backwards for one guy.
  14. Per UFC.com, Tito Ortiz has also re-signed with the organization. Man oh man, Vitor's back, Tito's back, and Fedor might be on the way. Business is about to pick up! Ortiz vs. Mark Coleman in November seems likely. That'd be a nice warmup for Tito. Coleman showed he's still got some gas in the tank with the fantastic fight against Bonner at 100. EDIT #2. Ben Rothwell's (from Kenosha), also been signed. He's 30-6 with wins over Ricco Rodriguez, Kryzstof Soszynski, and Roy Nelson. Another nice addition.
  15. Dana gave Randy a special exemption, and has said he'd do the same for Fedor.
  16. We knew before he was inducted that Gaylord Perry was a cheater. John McGraw was a cheater. Probably Phil Neikro. Anyone who's ever been caught with a corked bat,........etc, etc, etc. Baseballs desire to both continually drag it's skeletons out of the closet and then at the same time pretend they don't exist is a mystery to me.
  17. Did Cro Cop and Dana kiss and make up? After Cro Cop's last UFC fight, Dana went nuts and started dropping F-bombs left and right because Cro Cop was considering fighting in Japan after signing a 1-match contract with the UFC. Apparently they had a verbal agreement for a long-term contract but didn't get it signed.Cro Cop changed his mind and signed (I think) a 3 fight deal with UFC. I don't think he's all that relevant anymore, just my opinion. He needs to truly impress his next time out. Every one of his UFC fights, even his 2 wins, have been very lackluster.
  18. The only thing Canseco has to gain by outing his form colleagues is relevance. Big deal that he knows who used. He was one of the ringleaders, of course he knows. All he's showing me is that he cares very little about the guys he used to battle with, and against, all for the sake of keeping his name current. We already know that half the guys (exaggeration alert) from the 70's and 80's were doing blow, so why would knowing they did steroids tarnish their image further? I remember reading an article a long time ago where Tim Raines told a reporter he had to slide head first into second when he was stealing because he didn't want to bust the vial of coke that he had forgotten to take out of his back pocket.
  19. I'm absolutely certain that Manny and Papi did roids. I'm saying I'm not going to crucify them for it when they were told the results would be sealed. The credibility of the people leaking the info is zero, in my opinion.
  20. Also, for the record, I think every single guy who's tabbed by these "anonymous sources" should do nothing BUT deny. Until the "anonymous sources" come forward with who they are and why they're leaking this info, their credibility is zero.
  21. I now know for a fact these two were using at the I now know for a fact these two were using at the very least through 2003.very least through 2003. That's not a known fact. It's leaked information from a supposedly "sealed document" by anonymous sources. Why? These "anonymous sources" know that what they're doing is BLATANTLY illegal, so what credibility do they have? This stuff is nonsense. I don't like Papi, I don't like Manny, but I'm not going to hold them in contempt because of leaked results from a sealed survey test that they were told would be sealed. This is ESPN trying to make news. Nothing more.
  22. If enough pitchers have oblique injuries, isn't it a fair assumption that the repetitive pitching motion causes the injury?
  23. Yeah, Tom Seaver comparing everyone to himself and Jerry Koosman. Again, comparing *the field* to a couple of exceptional people really skews the argument in that favor. For every guy like Seaver who had a 20 year career, I can find 20 who flamed out before they were 30 from overuse/abuse.
  24. I'd really like to see Brock defend his belt 2, maybe even 3 times before he would fight Fedor. If he could defeat, let's say Vazquez, Mir (rubber match) and Carwin, there'd be no doubt that he'd be the unofficial 2nd best heavyweight in the world behind Fedor. The PPV take for that fight would be massive. I read an interview with Fedor back shortly after Brock beat Coutere where Fedor said he'd definitely be intrigued by a fight with Lesnar, but he wanted to see him get a few more fights under his belt and gain some experience.
  25. Yes, we can all hardly wait for the return to 14,000 fans in the stands on weeknight games. And 15 straight losing seasons again. Those clueless "Bandwagon fans" spend the money that put this team in the position to be able to be a mid-market team at least a few years at a time. I welcome them and all the "cluelesness" that they bring to each and every game.
