  1. I used to go to school on the East side, which started at 5:00, and I got out of work on the west side at 3:00. I tried both the beltline (nightmarish at times) and going north up through Northport and then over, and both ways suck. Bottom line, it was a 50 minute drive at best either way. ANother thing, the intersection of Junction Rd. and Mineral Point has got to be the most dangerous intersection in the city. I see at least an accident a week either coming to or leaving work at this location, and it's just ridiculous. Anyone going southbound on Junction turning left onto Mineral Point (with the intention of getting on the beltline) turns all the way into the far right lane, and it's nothing but a mess. And yeah, the bikeriders who believe that they're 100% more important than any other vehicles on the road suck. The laws apply to you too, even if you don't want them to.
  2. We're supposedly getting a new hospital that's supposed to create upwards of 600 jobs, but that's a ways off yet. It'd be nice, because the only thing Mercy Hospital is good for is a convenient place to die. The company bringing in the new hospital claims at this point that the GM situation is not going to deter them from bringing the hospital here, but we'll see.
  3. If one more friggin person from Madison tells me that Madison is easier to navigate and traverse than Milwaukee, they'll be getting a swift karate chop to the adam's apple. I worked for 3 years in Milwaukee, and I've worked for 4 years in Madison, and Madison, your street design, layout, whatever you want to call it........SUCKS. 20 minutes from the time I get on an exit ramp off the beltline til the time I actually get to turn on the street that I'm trying to access is just nonsense, plain and simple, and it's like that everyday. I can get from the lakefront out to Waukesha, or from South Milwaukee on up to say Germantown faster than I can get East/West or North/South in Madison. Maybe if this craphole town wasn't built on lakes and swamps, you'd have a more defined grid that makes travel a little more rational. Madison, you suck.
  4. Bred, born, raised, and lived my whole life in Janesville, and it's tough right now.....I can tell you from experience, watching that snippet doesn't even scratch the surface. Those guys that didn't take a buyout or early retirement are applying at places like Wal-Mart and McDonalds, who don't have the jobs available to give. My wife's brother is 60, and looking for a new job. Her dad is having his retirement benefits cut or yanked. It's tough to find a family in Janesville that isn't tied to GM in some way, either directly, or through a satellite company like Lear or Allied, or Jatco. Everyone knows someone who's hurting right now. I know that cities all across the country are going through brutally tough times, but when one employer closing it's doors affects 15% of the workforce in a city of 60,000 people, recovery is going to be a long time coming.
  5. Assuming he is afforded that honor..........
  6. There was a day in the 90's that County was flooded, because I graduated in 92, and this was afterthat. We were going to Brewers/Royals, and it was a sunny day, but the game was cancelled when the field flooded up to the middle of the dugouts.
  7. I think the answer here is simple. Those guys aren't amateur players. The draft is titled the amateur draft. I think that should apply, regardless of what country the player comes from. I have no problem with Japanese League guys being free agents rather than requiring them to be drafted.
  8. I'm just dumbfounded by this.... "The lawyers who had knowledge of Sosa's inclusion on the 2003 list did not know the substance for which Sosa tested positive. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they did not want to be identified as discussing material that is sealed by a court order." If you don't want to be identified, maybe.........shut up? I will NEVER stick up for Sosa, but this is a smear campaign. There isn't anything else that this could be about. I'm baffled by baseball's own insistence on continually digging skeletons out of the closet.
  9. I just can't see the need for AC. How many days a year is it uncomfortably HOT in Wisconsin? 15? 20? How many of those are home games (roughly half, would be a safe estimate). I can't see spending the money to acquire, install, and operate a unit that may be truly useful a dozen days a year. I mean, what's next, a giant dehumidifier if it's over 65% humidity? I'm all for advancement in the name of comfort, but at the same time, there's a point of diminishing returns. I'm not one of those guys that say "baseball was meant to be played outside", but at some point, you just have to let some environmental conditions be part of the game.
  10. And to add something to the thread, I'm really bugged lately by people who say "we need to do (X)". My wife says "we need to get that new sink and faucet put in". At work they send out an e-mail that says "We need to get rolling on this project and see it through to completion by next wednesday" And then the kicker "We need to get this lawn mowed". What, are we both going to walk around pushing the mower? That would be difficult, to say the least.
  11. My house was at a comfortable temperature today. I installed a window unit AC, and by the time I was done, I was sweating like a pig. That doesn't make a lot of sense. At least I had the AC to cool me off afterwards.
  12. A friend of mine's fiance drops the F-bomb about twice per sentence. I'm certainly not going to say I don't use an F-bomb a few times a day (at least), but when a person feels compelled to use it in speech most of the time, and as a verb, adverb, pronoun, adjective, etc, etc, etc, I just get turned off by their conversation. I'm not offended by it, so to speak, but at the same time, why is it necessary? Once in a while to emphasize a point is one thing, but people who continually drop F-bombs and whatnot liberally every or every other sentence just rub me wrong.
  13. In both of those photos, both the batter and pitcher are in the sun. Most of the trouble for the hitter comes when the mound is in full sun and the plate is in the shade.
  14. Let me get my semantics right. If he was expected to be a star, he'd have been a first rounder. Robert I'm not trying to bust your chops, I totally agree with what you're saying. Just having a little fun on a slow sunday evening.
  15. Heck, if he was going to be a star, he have been a first rounder. Not that I'm in disagreement with the general consensus on Gwynn, but Mike Piazza disagrees with you Robert. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I'd say no to "curtains" The place might start looking like this guy decorated it....... http://www.circusmusic.com/ics/svelte/chris.jpg ........and then people will be calling Miller Park "Fabulous!" If they could tint them (as someone else suggested) that would probably be acceptable.
  17. I don't disagree with you here, it sounds like we're close to the same page, but with Manny, I guess I look at the context of what everyone's saying (control issues, lack of confidence in his stuff) and see him walking a guy with 2 out and nobody on, and I just see continuations of the same problems that have plagued him all year. I don't blame him at all for that 2nd homer by Chipper, that was just silly that that swing resulted in a homerun. I just don't like that Chipper even ended up batting in that inning.
  18. Pitchers are going to walk guys, the hit afterwards was a grounder which is a good result that found a hole and then he made a good pitch to Jones who hit it out. That is not an inning where Parra looked terrible, he just gave up 3 runs. I don't disagree, but I don't see a silver lining here either. Manny walked a left handed batter, who he should be going right after, with 2 outs and nobody on base.
  19. He never has to face that HOF batter with 2 men on if he doesn't walk a guy with 2 outs and nobody on base.
  20. Yeah, coming into this game, it really had the feel to me of a "brilliant debut" outing by Hanson. Glad I was wrong.
  21. If I wanted to install a cd onto a netbook, could I use the drive from another computer connected via ethernet or USB to install said cd? I know I could go out and buy an external cd drive, but I honestly don't think I'm going to need to do this more than a handful of times in the foreseeable future. Help?
  22. As soon as Julio came into the game, I said to my wife "Macha must be punting this one". Now, I'm not claiming clairvoyance, but seriously, if you can't bring a guy into a game with a 2 run lead and expect him to hold, what good is he? He can't be used in tight situations, and there's going to be times due to pen fatigue that that last guy down there is going to be counted on. Can't keep going like this, especially when our starting rotation is seemingly only good for 5 innings an outing.
  23. You're talking about a hypothetical that will never occur. There's never been, nor will there ever be a scenario where a team is going to sign a player and know that he won't be available for post season (except maybe a September free agent pickup) If you're signing a guy, you're assuming he'll be available. You're arguing Sheet's perceived value, and others are arguing his mathematical value. I don't think there's anybody here who thinks those 2 are the same thing.
