  1. Why do I have a bad feeling about Burba coming in with the sacks juiced? Well, granted, I'd feel bad about ANYONE coming in with the bases loaded and no one out.
  2. While talking ball on the phone with a friend, I off handedly predicted 6 runs for the Crew tonight, seeings how we're facing an ace.
  3. Bill, I did not mean to imply that others should share my woeful vision of the Brewers at this stage. Rather than say that you should not look for positives, I should rather have said that I don't view 10 hits as a positive, when it nets zero runs. Normally, I'd agree that yes, when we're getting 10+ baserunners in a game, that's a good sign, but that's the 2nd time it's happened in less than a week, en course to 2 shutouts. That's not encouraging to ME that we get 10+ runners a game and utterly fail to bring them around. I hope this clears things up a little, as I was NOT trying to convey that people (and specifically you Bill) should not look for positives, I was only disagreeing that 10 hits is a positive sign. Knowing that you love to debate this stuff, I'm hoping my clearing up of this issue will allow us to continue to beat this subject around. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. Remember the team that used to at least hit some doubles? It seems to me that teams are playing Overbay a good bit deeper now. His doubles pace has slowed down as a result. A lot of his doubles early in the season were of the warning track fly ball variety that short hopped the fence. Now it seems that teams are making a conscious effort to cut down on those and accept the dink and dunk singles that fall in. Maybe it's just a perception issue, but that's what I'm seeing.
  5. Well, last week someone said (JaNelson, I believe) "Generally, if you walk 9 times in a game, you'll at least score a few runs" And tonight, "we DID get ten hits" Bill, I'm sorry if you feel like I'm picking on you today man! BUT.......... I think we're beyond the point of making shallow excuses for the offense and believing an outburst is around the corner. Also I'd hope that people would understand that the "right hook" comment was in jest. But EVERY TIME WE LOSE lately, there's a dozen posts about how "we shouldn't be dissapointed because we never expected to be this good in the first place." I'm sorry. It's getting old. Of course we didn't expect to be .500 on July 22. But 6-13 in the last 19 games, against divisional foes no less, with an offense that's bordering on becoming the worst in the league........... The fact that we're .500 doesn't mean I'm not sick of watching this offense squander runner after runner and fail to score on a nightly basis against mediocre to decent pitchers.
  6. First person to say "this is ok, because I didn't expect the Crew to be .500 at this point in the season" is getting a right hook right in the jaw.
  7. I remember that 33 inning streak in spring training that was mostly played with regulars where the Crew went scoreless, and I and a some others made comments about needing to expect that with the low SLG% offense we have, and the immediate response was "too small a sample size! It's just spring training! Doom and Gloom before the season even starts!" Well guess what. 28th in SLG. 28th in runs. Not only is this team not FUN to watch right now, it's hardly watchable at all.
  8. Yes it was Bill. After the 4 run first, the bats went into deep freeze. Heck, that seems just like the big league Brewers.
  9. Mavs lose, 6-5. Who won today, just Beloit?
  10. Ogden with 2 in the top of the 10th. H-Brewers lose 8-6.
  11. I don't know Bill, maybe you should lay the sarcasm on a little stronger. It might not be coming through.
  12. Bo Hall with a career high 10th strikeout in the 7th. Edit: Lancaster takes the lead on a sac fly, 5-4. Looks like that's it for Bo. update Lancaster still leading 5-4, going to the 8th. Helena and Ogden tied at 6 going to extra innings. update Lancaster leads, 6-5 going into the top of the 9th. Hinton with another double.
  13. Bo Hall ties his career high in K's with 9, with 2 outs in the 6th inning. Interesting stat, Hall has allowed 3 homers on the road, and 11 at home. Who would've figured?
  14. 2 run homer by Lancaster. Danny Rieshar (sp?) makes it a 4-4 game.
  15. Just thougth I'd add for the powers that be, that Durost is still listed as "no longer on the Beloit roster" and is not in the player database.
  16. Thanks Mass. I did miss it completely! (Obviously http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif )
  17. For some reason, I'm thinking this is prime time for the Crew to break out of the offensive doldrums. 7-3 sounds good.
  18. Did I miss something with Durost? I thought he "retired"? Was that a different guy? Help me out here!
  19. Ok. I'm in my car. I turn on the radio. I hear that the Brewers are down 3 and the bases are loaded. THEN Ueck says Yost is taking out Davis. Did I miss something? Are all of our 8 relievers needed in the St. Louis series to the point where we leave the starter in WAY too long in a game that SHOULD mean something, but apparently doesn't to our manager? Someone help me out here.
  20. http://frey.pp.jippii.fi/~burke/homer/homer.gif mmmm..............cheese sandwich...........
  21. And sorry if I came across a bit snotty here Bill, but as I'm sure everyone is, I'm a BIT disgusted that we put a small village on the basepaths, but refused to bring them in. The frustration just boiled over a bit is all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  22. Brewers are 14th in the NL in runs scored. They're 10th in OBP They're 14th in SLG%. There's a common denominator there, and I'm *pretty* sure that the Crew is close to the bottom in scoring not because of their OBP, but because we can't slug for ****. There's a reason OXS is 97.5% accurate, and I'm sure a bit of it is because it weights SLG% and OBP evenly.
  23. The offense has problems, no doubt. But its because some of our players aren't very good, not because we drew nine walks tonight and only got one run. I know Bill. I was hoping that you'd see my weak attempt at humor for what it was. I'm certainly not saying that walking 9 times was a detriment to scoring runs at all. It's just that walks *in and of themselves* are not going to get the job done. And this goes back to the "OBP is 50% more important than SLG%" argument. I'd say that OBP is *more* important, but certainly not 50% more important. And you said it yourself. With a few doubles, and if Jenks and Helms were getting extra base hits, those walks would be coming around to score. We need some sluggers. Period.
  24. What's Santos going to "fetch"? I'm sure other GM's would have it in the back of their minds that this could VERY well be a fluke from Santos this year. Even if they don't, they aren't going to give up a whole lot to get him, given that he's not exactly tearing it up. He's got an ERA over 4, and can't pitch worth a CRAP during the day.
  25. I knew that comment would set a few people off! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif 9 walks is great, but it's not the team that walks the most that gets the win. I'm as big a proponent of OBP as just about anyone (except Bill and Al) but you need guys that can, y'know, HIT, to bring those walks in. You just *aren't* going to get those 4 walk innings often enough to create a whole heck of a lot of runs. And Bill, you can say that we'll score a heck of a lot of runs if we keep walking like this, but I don't see it. This team is in an offensive slump BIG TIME, and taking 9 walks, while getting only 5 hits (2 of which were infield singles) is not exactly a precursor to busting out. OBP = Good. Runs = the end result We're not seeing the end result. Why? No hitting. Why? No sluggers.
