  1. https://www.mlb.com/news/corbin-burnes-cy-young-case 2nd lowest fip, basically ever for a guy with 140 ip or more. I think everyone already knew his season was ridiculously, historically good, but yeah. there ya go.
  2. Put Small in the pen and bring him along the same way they've done with the rest of these successful starters they're developing. Keep Houser, a good mid to back end of the rotation guy in the rotation until the results show he's not suited for that role.
  3. I have seen enough of the Phillies to know I would rather not face them in the playoffs. meh. they aren't a threat.
  4. wasn't it Turk Wendell who was "the guy" who could throw 100 mph has back in the day and it was a big big deal? correct me if I'm wrong. I know it was some dude for the cubs
  5. Peralta gave up a homer to Bryce Harper and gave up two unearned runs. He struggled with his control a little bit and looked like he was getting squeezed just a little. The sky is not falling.
  6. Peralta's a complete lock for the third pitcher in the playoffs. He's basically doing his rehab assignment in MLB. He'll be completely fine. You think that’s true if he goes four innings 4 earned runs every start the rest of the way. I'd bet there's about a 0.5% chance he goes 4/4 "every start the rest of the way".
  7. Wow. Wasn't sure about leaving Lauer in. Didn't hate it, just wasn't sure about it. Now I love it.
  8. Yup. You dont have to have 1st team aa's to make motion and play action useful tools in the toolbox.
  9. That staff was just a lot of just below average pitchers, and Pete Vukovich, and a really good closer. Pete Vukovich won the Cy Young with a 1.5 WHIP, lololol! I heard a story from some old Brewer, might have been Gorman, that Vuckovich would purposefully walk the bases loaded just to get to a guy he knew he could get out. Considering he had 102 BBs his Cy Young year I don't doubt that story for a second. I believe it. Vuke's 82 (looking back) was really pedestrian. 2.8 WAR (not bad, but not CY worthy). He went 18-6 on the back of major run support and 9 CG. basically a 1-1 K/BB ratio (lol) The 1.5 WHIP and 4.03 fip kills me dead. If they had access to advanced stats in that era, he probably doesn't sniff top 8 in the voting. I mean, we're talking Burnes and Woody as legit CY candidates and neither has 10 wins, and most of the voters probably won't even care. Pitcher wins don't mean a thing now.
  10. I'm officially at 99.999999% until we clinch (I know it's over, but I want it to be officially official)
  11. The Reds have had a soft schedule and a great chance to put a little bit of distance between themselves and the Padres and have pretty much biffed it. Now they're sitting 1/2 game behind the Pads, who were in dire straights a few weeks ago. Schedule still favors the Reds, but they've shown that they pretty much are who they are. Just can't go on a sustained run with a butt bullpen. Cubs have gone 11-6 (against a pretty soft schedule) since ending their brutal losing streak. They haven't been playing bad ball, and aren't laying down for anyone. They have a lot of games against contenders the rest of the way and with a lot of AAAA guys probably playing to prove they belong on a big league roster somewhere next year, they could actually play a pretty prominent spoiler role in the wild card.
  12. I'd be pretty confident that right now it'd be Buehler, with Burnes a somewhat distant second. We'll see what happens the rest of the way. I'm gonna guess Woodruff slides in somewhere between 5 and 3. I'll also guess Hader gets a handful of points. Might even be top 10.
  13. That staff was just a lot of just below average pitchers, and Pete Vukovich, and a really good closer. Pete Vukovich won the Cy Young with a 1.5 WHIP, lololol!
  14. The story doesn't go into anymore detail. Just that Wong may go on another list "if needed". Fair enough. Respect the man and his family's privacy. Like I said, I hope that all is well with their new baby.
  15. I don't subscribe to the Athletic, so I can't get far enough into the article. Hope nothing's wrong with the newborn li'l Wong
  16. Yup. Wheeler was on the fringes of the Cy Young conversation for a bit. Not so much anymore. Philly, just like St. Louis, is playing for their playoff lives right now. I like that we're playing a lot of teams this last month that have a lot in the balance. It'll keep the Brewers sharp and focused (hopefully)
  17. Counting on yelich to start 160 games is being super super optimistic I think. I'd be happy with 140, and 115 games from Cain.
  18. Alright JBJ, if you get a knock here, I'll apologize for every mean thing I've ever thought about you. WHich is admittedly, a lot.
  19. I mean, one through six that's not a bad lineup. I know we're missing some guys, but it's not like Peterson hasn't produced this year. Cain has been hitting. I know he's not a prototypical five hitter, but he's been getting on base. It's going to be okay
  20. Lauer has absolutely dominated the NL west. I'd go with that history in a 7 game series and see what he can bring to the table. I'd also be pretty comfortable with a piggyback start with Peralta/Houser both going 3-ish innings (maybe 4). It's playoff baseball. Things will be managed differently... as we've seen in the past. At this point I'm probably guessing Anderson is going to be the odd man out. Going to be tough to find him a place in the bullpen for the post season. He's pitched decent, not like he hasn't earned a spot, I just don't think there is one for him.
