  1. Let's see what they do with the sticks this inning, and see if/where Garcia is due to bat if potentially needed in the bottom half.
  2. I get what you are saying, but both Williams and Hader, especially with the way they have pitched lately, are pretty matchup proof. Williams has a .451 OPS against vs RHB, and a .747 OPS against vs LHB. Hindsight is great, but Joey votto is a pretty good LHB.
  3. I know, "Hader is the closer", but would almost have rather he be pitching to the lefties Votto and Moustakas, and let Williams get the 9th against the bottom of the order. Of course, if guys get on, it gets a little hairy when it comes back around.
  4. If they hold on and win this.... maybe I'm reading too much into it with this much season left, but that's gotta be some air let outta cincy's tires. 4-1 lead in the 7th, cutting the division lead by a game, with 2 more games against the div leaders.... instead a 4 run meltdown in the 7th and they lose a game? I know we gotta hang on and win this thing, but that inning is a huge swing right now.
  5. What an inning. What a huge difference just hitting the ball out of the infield with those RISP/men on third makes.
  6. Bud gets a 3 year extension.
  7. Lots of yes responses. I feel like that's not what you were expecting. Hahahahah. Guys talking about slow pitch softball injuries I fully expected that I will ask another question. Have you ever run the bases in your life? And don’t count the Miller park run the bases when you were 8 Running in slow pitch = running bases. Your tone suggests that mlb players can't/shouldn't get injured while running bases, which they do, fairly often.
  8. Tyrone Taylor is on the team already so he will replace Garcia. What the Brewers really need to do is find somebody to replace Taylor's $250 or so PA's. Since it's likely JBJ will be back with the team, ideally he'll just bounce back with the 750 OPS we expected this year and will be all right
  9. Polanco is a career 3.8 war guy. He's a corner OF who has had one .800 ops season going into his age 30 year. He might be done.
  10. In my younger days I'd chew up and consume anything Packer related all day long. Pre-season football, the pre-game, post game shows.... listen for 3 hours after the game so I could agree or disagree mentally in my head with the callers and just consume whatever media there was. I'd watch pre-season football to the very end of the game, hoping to glean some bit of knowledge or information about every single guy to the very bottom of the depth chart. Nowadays, I absolutely loathe pre-season football. It's just ugly. I turned on the radio at 3 today to get the Brewers rolling, and was ultra annoyed to find that the playoff bound Brewers regular season game is pre-empted once again for pre-season Packers football in a game in which it looks like about 4 guys I've ever heard of played in, and 2 of those are the kickers. Just cut pre-season to a couple shared practices and one game.
  11. Good win. Good comeback, and glad to see Yelich (possibly, maybe) breaking out of his season+ long hibernation. That being said, Hader threw 25 completely unnecessary pitches and will almost certainly be unavailable tomorrow because of it. Stupid.
  12. Maybe Yelich shouldn't have hit that dang grand slam. Wouldn't have had the false sense of security coming into the 9th. Maybe just a 2 run single....
  13. Is it still past the point where we can count on Yelich to do anything significant this year..... or what?
  14. I think it's reasonable to figure that if Stearns had comfortably assumed that Taylor could put up a .750 (or heck, even a .700 - .725 OPS) for 200 - 300 AB's as the 4th OF, the JBJ signing would be completely moot. I just don't think they were 100% sure of what they had with Taylor, and with Old Man Cain coming off a dead season, they didn't feel comfortable (rightly so) counting on him to play more than 80 - 100 - 120 games.
  15. I think D-WAR and most defensive ratings systems are getting better with each passing year, and I think we would almost all agree that JBJ's defensive value is good. He's sitting at 0.0 WAR right now..... basically a replacement level player. The numbers say he's good defensively, awful offensively, and shouldn't be playing every day. Exactly what we already know.
  16. That's not how it works at all.
  17. They're bringing up milner because the bullpen pitched 8 innings yesterday
  18. I think it's ok to give a guy higher up the ladder a *slight* boost, as you can look at as he's more polished and more likely to reach his ceiling. He's more projectable at that point, perhaps A 23 year old at AAA who projects to be a decent bench guy shouldn't be rated higher than an 18 year old at rookie ball who was a top 3;draft pick though. That 18 year old may flame out, but his ceiling is a lot higher.
  19. Reds were at 1.9% to win the division per fangraphs this afternoon. Even on a day they hold serve with the Brewers, their division odds are going to go down, because there's just fewer games to make up ground. Losing to the Cubs (losing an *easy* game off the schedule), and the Brewers pull another game further ahead is pretty killer for the Reds at this point. They had been playing pretty good ball and hadn't made up any ground at all. Now they've lost two in a row to the AAA Iowa Cubs while the Brewers are handling the Cards. I'm not saying it's "over", but I just don't see the Reds as a viable threat at this point.
