  1. This would be a nice one to get and square away a series split right away. I'm not at all worried about the dodgers catching the giants or seeding. If the dodgers catch the giants, they probably pass us and we're still the 2 seed anyways.
  2. of course we're playing on the west coast, so each inning is going to take 25 minutes to complete.
  3. At what point is the possibility of something infinitely small enough that arguing about it almost daily is unnecessarily repetetive? Right now the Reds division odds are 0.8% Yes, there is a "chance" they could win the division. It's less than one in one hundred. I mean, if someone really wants to break down each series, and the starters, and how much that increases the Reds odds of catching the Brewers, by all means, but at this point in the season, it's not 100%, but it's pretty darn close. I'm also going to add..... you don't have to convince anyone (that I know of) that the division is not yet technically clinched. There's a magic number thread standing at 23 (IIRC). But as has been pointed out multiple times, these kinds of things don't happen very often. Sure, teams in-season will blow a 10 game lead from time to time (even this year!!!) but nearing the end of the season, when talent levels normalize to a larger degree and rosters are (more or less) locked in, it just doesn't happen very often. Not "never", but not very often, hence the 99.1% division odds for the Brewers.
  4. I will admit that I don't like it when they give playoff odds as 100% before the spot is clinched. Call at 99.99% until the spot is clinched.
  5. Was a villain in El Dorado, a really entertaining John Wayne western and I think I recently saw him in Cobra Kai. RIP Yup. He was Johnny's step dad. Played a big time jerk. I'll remember Ed Asner as one of the best ever big screen Santa clauses from Elf. A silly, kinda goofy movie, but Asner played his role with panache and gruff and sincerity.
  6. Out to San Fran to play the Giants, while the Reds take on the Cardinals. Cardinals are fading fast, but still within striking distance of the 2nd wild card. This series is an opportunity for them to make up some ground on Cincy, so even though we're off to face a tough opponent, the Reds are playing someone who's literally playing for their playoff lives right now as well. playoff odds on B-R right now are > 99.9%
  7. everything you said is true. Having said that, I think the least likely way to get NY fans to stop booing is by doing what they're doing. I'm not even saying be better, play better, try harder, whatever..... but I guess I just kind of saw this going this way with Javy Baez in NY. This was super predictable. Sometimes you just gotta be immune to the stuff. I'm not saying it's right or whatever, but people aren't going to stop booing because Javy Baez is giving them a thumbs down. It's NY, they're gonna double down.
  8. Yup. If you're going to get him up and warming, just use him. Which they did, and we gained a game on the Reds because they didn't goof around using the front end of the bullpen.
  9. The Reds were supposed to sweep the Marlins. We might have been misinformed. Were we also misinformed about the Brewers winning a series in Minnesota? I was the one that said don't sleep on the Twins. They've been basically a few games under .500 since May, and are 2nd in the AL in homers. It's MLB, nobody (and I mean nobody) should ever count on a sweep or even a series win. Just go out and play the games.
  10. I mean, Lewis Brinson is 27, has over 1000 career PA's, has a .576 career OPS, and a -2.4 career WAR. Even with Yelich's dumb contract, and the possibility that he might just be "Marlins" Yelich, there's no reason to start revisiting that trade and thinking "what if". Even this year Brinson is a .706 OPS guy in limited playing time. Speaking of "he is who we thought he is"....
  11. I don't normally like to compare/say "this guy could be this years X", but I have a feeling Ashby is going to be this year's version of 2018 Corbin Burnes when playoff time comes around. I like the way we're developing starters now by breaking them in, using them in the pen, using them in a multi-use role (kinda like how the Cardinals have done), instead of just bringing them up, throwing them into the fire and saying "here ya go". I won't say this is the reason our guys are seeing the success they have, but I am, and have always been a fan of the approach.
  12. I definitely want Rowdy back next year. I'm also not definitely sold that Rowdy is and should 100% be counted on to be our 1st baseman. That being said, I think the last few weeks was just a normal slump a guy goes through over the course of a season. I'd love to know early in the off-season whether or not we'll have the DH full time in the NL next year.
  13. Our AAA roster is a bunch of late 20's/early 30's journeymen. Sadly, Reyes coming up and playing solid D at multiple positions and putting up a .275 OBP is about the best we could probably hope for out of the batch we have.
  14. Levering has been talking the entire half inning about Griffin Jax and his wife both being from the Air Force Academy, and Lane Grindell's addition to the conversation was a non-committal "mmm"
  15. I think the point 82brewcrew was making is that your perception is probably correct and that it's probably correct for every or almost every team. Walks = extra base runners = more and better chances to score.
  16. I would think that is a large number regardless of the team. I would guess sir, that you are correct. OBP is a big component of scoring runs, or so they say.
  17. Come on now. They will be somewhere between 6.5 and 7.5 games up. It will not be close to a must win game. Not even within shouting distance. It's less about standings and more about stopping loosing streaks. These things have a way of snowballing. Every team goes through losing streaks. Tomorrow is not a must win game.
