  1. offense continues to shoot itself in the foot
  2. I think if they wanted to skip a turn, they'd just skip a turn. No need or reason to make up a bug to do that. Just say "hey, we're managing his innings and skipping a start".
  3. life hack/pro tip..... if you're gonna scream the f word, don't do it in Camden yards where there's like 87 fans and every mic is gonna pick you up.
  4. Game thread related, but Rock County sucks for Brewers radio. On Friday nights, we get pre-empted for high school football. I don't know if anyone else gets that treatement, but it's super, super annoying. The Brewers getting pre-empted for high school football is annoying enough. Now on Saturday night, they're getting bumped on local radio for Badgers football. WCLO has am and FM. I can see bumping the AM broadcast (I mean, I'd still be annoyed), but to bump both is ultra annoying, and leaves the Brewers fan base in this part of the state with very few options for radio.
  5. Knew I could count on jomboy. Love the comments "If the Orioles are cheating, they need to work on their processes"
  6. Dan Plesac is Zach's uncle. not dad. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/plesaza01.shtml
  7. Yup. I'm not a fan of playing 1-AA and Little Sisters of the Blind and such, but opening the season with a conference game just feels off. We've come out against LSU and played well in openers (but like you said, they are coming off a weird Covid season), so I guess we'll go from here, and see what happens.
  8. I do think the Pads have a better chance of taking out the Dodgers or Giants, and that's who I'd rather have win that game. I know that regular season doesn't = post-season, but at the same time, we haven't matched up well at home against the Reds this year, and if they somehow snuck all the way to the NLCS against us (if we make it that far), that's just not a series I'd look at super eagerly. I know their bullpen is hot garbage, and we'd be solid favorites, but I'd feel yuck about it all the same.
  9. Well.... excitement level for this game is sure to be subdued, but let's get it done.
  10. I can see that, and tbh I couldn't care less if Ohio State makes the playoffs or not.
  11. Let's go back to talking about the remaining playoff races instead of sniping back and forth about how everyone individually interprets data and statistics.
  12. So, to put this in terms of the playoff probability projections, on August 27, according to FanGraphs, the Yankees had a 97.8% probability of making the playoffs. To use the terminology some have used on this site, it was “statistically over”. The Blue Jays on the other hand had a 4.6% chance of making the playoffs. They were statistically dead. Now, two weeks later, the Yankees probability is at 53.8% and the Blue Jays are at 45.4%. Just another reminder of how quickly and unexpectedly things in baseball can turn around. Now, maybe the Yankees will straighten out and claim a wild card berth. But if nothing else, this shows that a probability of 95% or more in baseball does not guarantee anything, and that a certain amount of that 95% includes scenarios that rabid fans will might not find very enjoyable. Like the Brewers in 1982 and 2008 who saw seemingly comfortable situations turn into final day nailbiters. That's why it was 97% and not 100%.
  13. chicago is up from Springfield, but is not "up north".
  14. if jomboy doesn't do a breakdown video by the end of the day of the dustup that was the entire orioles/blue Jays game, I think a lot of people are gonna be disappointed.
  15. I grew up and live in Janesville. My aunt, uncle and grandparents all lived in Adams/Friendship when I was a wee lad, so to us, "up north" was to go visit family in Adams. The Dells wasn't "up north", but a trip to the Dells could certainly be part of going up north.
  16. What in the world is he barking about? His team is like 12 - 140 or something like that. Shut up and get ready to be fired.
  17. He doesn't have to attend every game to have an opinion about the length of the games. Game length is an issue to a lot of people and Anderson has a right to comment on it.
  18. I've listened enough that I know the difference in Levering and Grindel's voices. I like Grindel better... he just seems to have a good feel for the game and when to fill in with random stories about players and people and when not to. Levering isn't bad, and maybe he'll get better. And to be fair, we're used to Ueck with his excellent (and often repeated) stories. That's a high bar to clear.
  19. I think Levering is being groomed as Ueck's replacement eventually. Levering and Grindel make a decent radio team once you get used to the fact that neither of them are Bob Uecker.
  20. This is why it's just difficult to look at a schedule and say "team X should/will beat team Y and make up ground". It's MLB. Bad teams are gonna win 65 - 70 games. Counting on or assuming sweeps is just bad juju. The Cubs and Pirates have played spoiler several times the past few weeks. The Pirates are 4-3 vs the Cardinals in their last 7 games against them the last few weeks. The Cardinals "should" beat the Pirates. I'm sure there's Cards fans that say "WE SHOULD SWEEP THESE GUYS OMG", but that's just not how it works most of the time. The Reds just aren't good enough. Their bullpen sucks. It's really hard to have a sustained run of success with a really bad bullpen. Reds BP ERA was 5.15 in the 1st half. It's 5.25 in the 2nd half. Their acquisitions haven't done a thing to help them get over the hump. I'll correct my statement from earlier. The Reds really aren't blowing it... they're just a mediocre to slightly above average team. They had an opportunity with a soft schedule and they're just not good enough to take advantage of it. Bad teams beat good teams often enough, and they beat average ones even more so.
  21. I'm glad you cleared that up, but..... c'mon man, we're on a baseball forum. If you say "The Catch", it's gotta be assumed you're talking about Willie Mays' "The Catch"... right?
  22. so... 2 of the 3 projections have the pads back ahead of the reds. talk about poopin the bed.
  23. I mean.... maybe overrated. but lame?
