  1. I think I have to disagree on the Mariners giving up too much talent. Jeff Clement(Marc Newfield V2.0) is about 1 season from bust status and I am pretty sure Ronny Cedeno is in his prime right now. As for the other guys if Jack Z looked at them and said we can give this pitching away I would feel pretty good if I was a Mariners fan. Jack Wilson is a heck of a short stop and Ian Snell has the tools to be a number 2-3 starter. The Pirates are out to aquire 20 prospects you have to figure at least one or two should make it. But on the other hand it is the Pirates.
  2. Does anyone know the team Hotel in Pittsburgh? I am head over for the August series.
  3. I got one for $22 the day of the giveaway. The Vaughn and Uecker bobbles displayed together is a thing of beauty. Definetely my new favorite bobble.
  4. I think I would be pretty shocked for the Indians to actually pull the trigger on sending Mark DeRosa out of town so soon after getting him. I mean whats next Kerry Wood being traded. You usually do not see a FA signed in the off season traded quickly after signing with a new team. It is probably quite rare with starters anyway.
  5. I hate these fights as much as anyone, but it when you have a meaningful rivalry and a lot of alcohol, incidents are going to happen. No maybe about it. The only way it is going to go away is if one of the teams become irrelevant for a long period of time and attendance drops in half. These type of incidents are regular at Packer vs Bears or Vikings or Badgers vs Minnesota or Iowa football games. I doubt there was a single fight at the Brewers vs Pirates series in Pittsburgh last week. If we go back to drawing 16,000 on a Friday night and being a bottom feeder of the division year in and year out the majority of these incidents will all go away. If you want to win and fill a ball park with a crowd that likes to over do it alcohol wise this is what you get.
  6. I don't think you can blame ESPN that this is not a gripping national story line. They are only showing what most the viewers care about. Can never blame a network or any business who is looking to maximize there ratings or profits for that. They are not obliged to cover all teams, unlike the MLB network who is. When the crew was a story with CC and the playoff run last year they were near the top of Baseball tonight on a nightly basis. Hopefully as the year progresses we will be a story America cares about again.
  7. I do not think the Bucks "take priority," but the network is the primary viewing network for both teams and there seasons overlap for just under a month. I love to watch the Brewers and am indifferent to the Bucks like most Wisconsinites, however they maybe have 2 or 3 games on total during the Brewers season. I dont see the emphasis on the complaints about them being on TV. It not like they are playing cricket, the NBA is a pretty popular league.
  8. This is all about Motivation. Some players are motivated by themselves, some need to hear it privately, and some need to be called out in front of an audience. It is up to the manager to figure out which motivational style works for each of his players. If he thinks this is what it will take to light a fire under Charlie, then it is his call to make.
  9. I got to believe that this Boras is as unhappy about this as any of us. He is going to get screwed out of the big commission that this contact would have brought in. But he also doesn't want Manny to fire him so he has to play the bad guy in this role and take Manny's side. If the whole world can see Manny is going to end up getting less than this, then you can bet Boras Corp does as well.
  10. Wow tough crowd. I am an HR person have been for 6 years now since graduating college. The biggest point I an make is HR is not your personal "Crisis Hotline." We are not waiting 24 hours a day to answer your every need. Like every other person in the company we have a job to do, and not always a popular one. If I were to put together an "HR hater" profile they are usually people who cannot solve there own problems and are looking for somebody to blame because there life is so much worse than everybody else's. Now I am not a recruiter, but I have two of them with me in my building and they are on the phone as much as any sports agent or wall street trader. Besides that they get approximately 100 resumes for an open position and 70 of them are qualified for the job. If we phone interview 5 people there are 65 people who are qualified to do a job, perhaps just like you, who feel they are getting screwed over. The reality is HR is a tool that each person either Management level or floor level staff should use as a tool and consider an asset. HR people do more behind the scenes for people and the company that 98% people will ever realise. And for all that you get about 5% of the staff that want to be Michael Scott's that think they are the most important person in the company and want someone to blame for there sorrow.
  11. I am a huge fan of it. But I do not think American MLB fans is its target audience. This tourney is designed around the "World" teams. But with that said I think it is great. You get to see the next big import playing for there home country much like Dice K in 06, who looked unreal back then. PS...Yu Darvish is who I am excited to watch.
  12. Of course game 1 @ Miller Park has to be the same day as the Badgers vs Ohio State night game. An easy decision to go to the playoff game, but the timing still stinks.
  13. This is a 3rd party source, but it is something to look at. Check out #2. http://www.thebuckychanne...rewers-pitching-woes.html UPDATE: ESPN'S TIM KURKJIAN JUST SAID ON SPORTSCENTER THAT GALLARDO WILL START THURSDAY, AND IS SCHEDULED TO WORK THREE INNINGS. SORRY FOR THE CAPS! Anybody watching ESPN that can confirm?
  14. I think it is starting to look like Yo will be making the start, especially if we win tonight. I think management is in an all or nothing mode right now. If we were 2-3 games out they probably would not risk it. As for the Brew Crew review I appreciate the news. It seems like people are just hoping they get to bust them down on this one. I have been a journalist in the past and sometimes the sure thing lead falls, through it happens, and discrediting someone for it is a bad idea. A good journalist does everything possible to get the truth out there and always takes a risk that it comes to fruition in a case such as this.
  15. My guess is baseball does whatever it takes to get this game in. It would not shock me to see them playing in a light to medium rain to avoid the scheduling problems. It seems to happen every year towards the end of the season, where they play games that in April/May would be called without question.
  16. I want to throw another plug for Its always Sunny out there. I cannot remember laughing harder at a TV show then when Charlie yelled Wild Card at the end of the second episode. Just thinking about it still makes me crack up. Also the Wire in my book is TV at its Finest. The complexity and similarities of the two sides of that town really get you thinking after every episode. My suggestion with that show is space out your episodes instead of watching 3-4 at a time, enjoy them and think about them, the creators get pretty deep.
  17. I think this article provides some good incite on why letting Gamel "go" is a horrible idea. http://sportsillustrated....allups/index.html?eref=T1 His numbers since July 12th are 189/.283/.315. At least with Bill Hall we get a guy who can play solid defense at 3b. Also Bill Hall is a guy who has come up with many big hits for this team in clutch situations over the last few years. If we get to the playoffs we are going to need guys like that to take the pressure off the young guys.
  18. I am also a fellow HR person, not working in recruiting any more though. My advice would definitely call and ask the recruiter what the situation with the job is. Calling and asking about a position once or twice is never a bad thing. However when a person starts to call and leave messages constantly it is an instant turnoff to a recruiter.
  19. I would rather trade Escobar for Cain than Hardy for Cain. JJ is a big part of the heart and soul of this team.
  20. I have had run ins with ushers as well that always seem to get out of hand pretty quick. However I don't think this type of situation deserves a complaint, they are just trying to do there job and it seems that communication is usually the key element of the situation. That for the most part can be attributed to an early baby boomer trying relay bad news to a generation x or y person. 9 times out of 10 it will not go well. Final advice.... let it go and don't hold a grudge, I'd bet the usher has.
  21. I would send Russell Branyan. He could be bigger than Godzilla over there. By the way, watch some video on Darvish if you have not heard of him, the guy is seriousely impressive...reminds me of Tim Lincecum.
  22. I am not a charter member of the Brian Anderson fan club, by I am certainly not calling for his head either. However...I love Bill Schroeder, not a popular opinion I know, but I think he is a great color man, has a ton of good Brewer stories and just seems like a decent guy. Plus I saw him at 4th base with Tom Crean after a game last year and he was awesome to all the fans taking pictures, shaking hand, and such.
