  1. With the position players at the top, Cody would have to be Yo dominant to be ranked 4. We all like him, but it's very difficult to figure out where he's going to fit in.True, but so far, he's improving his 1.83 ERA of last year with a 1.29. He's also got 20 K in 21 IP, WHIP of 0.857, and a 5:1 K/BB ratio.
  2. Hmmm... Hart took off after being placed in front of Braun and Fielder, but slumped late last year while lower in the order. Hardy, who had been in that spot and who cracked 50 homers over two years in that spot, is now slumping with his drop to lower in the order.
  3. Dillard, IIRC, is another GB pitcher. Seriously, though... I think a lot of this is him still stretching out. But I think he'll be in a groove we'll all like by the end of the year. And I know small sample size applies, but Chris Cody's continuing the pwnage. 2-0, 1.29 ERA. Jeffress is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA. Anyone still want to give me a hard time about ranking Cody at #4, and placing him ahead of Jeffress? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. OK... that 8th inning play involving Rickie Weeks goes down as a "failed fielder's choice." Isn't "infield single" a more appropriate term?
  5. This is one of those "in general" questions that I have seen a few times, either at minor-league games I have gone to over the years, or when following the Brewers. In tonight's game, Hart leads off with a double, then Braun follows with what is called a single - yet Braun ended up on second base (which would arguably make his hit a double, not a single), with them explaining that "Braun had gone to second on the throw." What exactly is the "rule" regarding this.Is it a hard-and-fast rule, or just the call the official scorer makes?
  6. True, but if Gillespie's arm isn't 100%, then it may be better to move Braun to right. He has 12 assists in `08, so the arm's decent enough, I suppose. The other option might be Gamel in right.
  7. Dunno... Cameron might be looking for a big deal after this year. If Cain cannot go next year, how would an OF of Gillespie in left, Hart in center, and Braun in right sound?
  8. With a sandwich... it is worth a roll of the dice, IMHO. EDIT: As a lefty - well worth the risk of an early pick.
  9. 1. Mat Gamel - Having him succeed gives the Brewers options to get pitching help. 2. Cole Gillespie - If he can break out, the Brewers can trade Hart for pitching. 3. Taylor Green - Could be the Brewers #2 hitter for a decade. 4. Chris Cody - If he breaks out, it would help the rotation. 5. Tim Dillard - If his return to starting is a success, he can also take a rotation spot which = NO MORE SUPPAN!
  10. Except the Brewers lineup as presently constituted lacks the OBP/professional hitter type of player. Green would be the best option as a #2 hitter with his OBP skills and contact-hitting. Add in what appears to be very good defense at the hot corner... It's like choosing between a left-handed version of Braun or a left-handed Cirillo. It's hard to lose either way.
  11. How has Dillard been doing in Nashville? Might he be an option? Or how about calling Chris Cody up? Is the starting pitching cupboard that bare?? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. Cody sure keeps doing well. Definitely performed in a manner worthy of the vote I gave him on the Power 50 fan poll. Any chance they can get him in the Brewers rotation soon?
  13. We may need the bat soon with the way the big league rotation's doing...
  14. I think this experiment needs to end sooner rather than later. Hardy's done well at #2, and it was not really broken the last two years - so why try to fix it? As for Hart... I'm beginning to think that if he struggles by the break, it may be time to give Cole Gillespie a shot in right. He's looked pretty good so far, and quite frankly, his OBP skills stand in sharp contrast to Hart's.
  15. Or... if the M's have a surplus of young talent in the bullpen, they can always deal it to get help elsewhere. I figure this is a way to get trade bait. On the other hand, if they get Aumont, Fields, and Harrow into the bullpen sooner, then they free up a lot of resources to get free agents in other spots.
  16. Gillespie is doing the DH thing at Brevard County until he can play the field. Correct. Kudos to Rottino for being willing to go down to AA. I hope he at least gets another look on the major-league roster in September.
  17. I will admit I had a hard time buying it. I've watched the replay of that play a few dozen times - NEVER understood how the heck that concussion could have happened.
  18. That "wall" was arguably in AAA. But given what he did prior to going to AAA as a starter, having him develop a slider and change-up could be good. Given the losses in the rotation this year, he may be needed as a starter. EDIT: Also, if Dillard can be a starter, then think of him as a way to get cheap Suppan-level production.
  19. Escobar v. Hardy... much of this depends on Escobar's bat. If he is a .360 OBP/.350 SLG player, then he's better utilized as a utility player. If Escobar is Henley Ramirez 2.0, then he needs to be at SS. But at this point, JJ Hardy's a known quantity - and a very positive known quantity.
  20. 2b: Weeks ss: Hardy lf: Braun 1b: Fielder cf: Cameron rf: Hart 3b: Hall c: Kendall bench: Rivera, Lamb, Nelson, Counsell, Irribarren, McGehee rotation: Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan, Dillard bullpen: Hoffman, Villanueva, Riske, Stetter, DiFelice, McClung DL- Gwynn, Looper
  21. I'd say at least five:JJ Hardy, Rickie Weeks, Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, and Mike Cameron I'm also OK with Jason Kendall and Corey Hart at C and RF Kendall's bat isn't the best (to put it mildly), but he seems to do pretty well with pitchers. Hart's just a solid OF, at least until Cole Gillespie comes along. Cameron may well be replaced by Lorenzo Cain.
  22. Hardy in the 2 hole where he'd see a lot of fastballs is a good thing. I think it gives the Crew a good chance to jump to an early lead. Weeks Hardy Braun Fielder Cameron Hart Lamb/Hall Kendall
  23. The deal for Looper is a good one. Makes this offseason barely tolerable between the [deleted] Yankees spending spree and the Sheets situation. One has to wonder... would it be a good idea to sign Sheets to a deal with a little money in `09, and very incentive-laden deals in 2010 and 2011 with a $5 million base salary?
  24. And, to be honest, Chase Wright, Brae Wright, and David Welch will have value - not so much in that they will be aces, but in that they can give you the kind of numbers that Jeff Suppan has averaged for the last four years at league minimum - or thereabouts - for three years. 12 wins, 190 IP, at a 4.60 ERA for $500K - that's value. That is, "the Brewers can sign a guy for a pennant run" value.
  25. More likely: Jeff Suppan's average numbers over the last four years.
