  1. Hand is not on my ballot, and Frederickson is 19th. Gindl is the 4th OF in my rankings, behind three others. EDIT: It was also a VERY close race for the top spot on my list. I will say that while the position of the top prospect might not have been a surprise to a lot of people, the number two guy had a very strong case in my book for #1.
  2. I'll release my ballot on Saturday - and end all the guesswork. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif EDIT: See below for ballot - I'm posting a little early...
  3. He's not even on the list... but let's just say that the top pitching prospect on my ballot is VERY different from BF.net conventional wisdom and that I rate three other pitching prospects at least 15 points higher than their present positions on the Power 50. EDIT: My top OF prospect is also, if you will, probably not the one that BF.net conventional wisdom would pick, albeit his move was relatively small. EDIT 2: One last hint: The top pitching prospect on my ballot and another pitcher in my top ten jumped at least 30 spots from their positions in the present Power 50.
  4. If the Brewers add Looper, I think they're going to be above .500, but there is a good chance they will miss the playoffs. Dunno about anyone else, but the Brewers in the playoffs is a very addictive feeling for me, at least. If they get Sheets back, that gives the team a very fair shot, with Villanueva, McClung, Dillard, and DiFelice in the pen. Ideally, I'd try to get Dillard, Villanueva, and McClung stretched out some in case someone gets hurt (which, as we all know, happens all too often with the Brewers).
  5. Just how much money did the Yankees get from selling Darrell Rasner's contract to a Japanese team!?
  6. Lawrie's bat is my big question. How good is it? How fast will he come up? The Brewers need to figure out what the likely answer to these questions are, and take things from there. Gamel, Green, and Salome were 1-2-3 in my top 20 list (yes, I will reveal that part of my vote now). Salome could be moved to LF, the way the Brewers hid Dave Nilsson for a few years in the 1990s, but then, one of the better leadoff prospects in the Brewers system, Cole Gillespie, may have no place to play (he's mostly played LF in the system).
  7. It's also a chance to provide feedback - I think there are a some guys who are VERY undervalued. It's a chance to give these guys a boost.
  8. Any thoughts about bringing back Gary Glover as a long man/6th starter for 2009? It would allow the Brewers to move Villanueva, Dillard, or McClung to the rotation, and he is about average for a 5th starter.
  9. Bring Gross back - he'd be perfect as either a RF (move Hart to center) or as a backup corner OF.
  10. Yeah, I am getting that sort of sinking feeling, albeit not to the same degree: Gallardo, Parra, Bush and Suppan are not a horrible 1-4, but the Brewers need at least one good starter. Villanueva, McClung, and Tim Dillard spring to mind as contenders for the rotation, and they are in-house. And Sheets hasn't signed with anyone yet - so he could theoretically still come back. If so, Dillard, McClung, and Villanueva go back to the bullpen, but might be the top options to take over if someone in the rotation gets hurt. I think the team will fall back to a 2005/2007-esque level, though. But I see some hope down the line: Everyone talks Jeffress, but I think there are a couple of sleepers for the rotation. The big one is Christopher Cody, who racked up quite a performance at Brevard County that was better than what came from the aforementioned Dillard and Villanueva - and I'd be comfortable with either of them as a #5 starter, although I think they could be better than that (say, #3s).
  11. Can Cano play third? If so, stick him there, and move Hall back to center.
  12. Well, what can be done in the international scouting arena (Japan/Korea/Taiwan/Australia) with $20 million a year? Or even half that figure? It's obvious: The Brewers get blown out of the water by the big-market teams in FA, so it's time to get outside the box. It's time to get sources of talent and get ahead of the curve for once.
  13. That's exactly what I was thinking as I was reading that. Why wouldn't you at least look into Hoffman? I wouldn't think he would be too expensive. It's a long off-season though, so hopefully something comes along. Yeah, `09's gonna be one where the doubters will pass the Crew off as a flash in the pan.
  14. Why not sign JJ to a long-term deal, and keep him at shortstop?
  15. Pull off a trade with one of the Japanese teams, perhaps? The Brewers have some AAAA-ceiling players that could probably use a chance to play at a level higher than Nashville, and there might be some good starting pitchers in Japan.
  16. Ugh. I hate the Yankees. Bring back Sheets, do what it takes to find another starter. If Tom H is right about the Cubs getting Peavy, then the Brewers' only shot at the playoffs will be the Wild Card. The Brewers need two starters. If Gallardo's the ace in `09, I don't see them making the playoffs.
  17. If the Cubs get Peavy, then the Brewers have little choice: They have to re-sign Sabathia, no matter the cost, in order to have a prayer at the wild card. To have a shot at the division, they need both Sabathia AND a comparable pitcher to Sheets - or to bring Sheets back.
  18. So, why not be the first? The way free agency is looking, the Crew is going to lose Sheets and Sabathia in FA. Yu may be a way to improve the rotation in the short term. Or do we want to see Parra as the #2 starter? Or Dave Bush? Or Suppan? Barring a miracle or thinking outside the box, Gallardo is the #1 starter with one of Parra/Bush/Suppan as the #2.
  19. The side of me that believes in maxing out on offensive potential is crying out for the Crew to acquire Dunn, put him in left, and to move Braun back to third. The defense might be bad, but Braun, Fielder, and Dunn each should be good for 40+ homers. Cameron, Hart, and Hardy are good for 25 each. --- The other option, Daniel Murphy... I have to ask, "What does he give the Brewers that Taylor Green won't in 2010?" What is one year of Murphy at third base worth? The Mets will likely ask for too much for my blood.
  20. Brewers get: RHP Yu Darvish Ham Fighters get: LHP Zach Braddock OF Brendan Katin C Lou Palmisano
  21. I wonder... perhaps the Brewers could swing a trade with a Japanese team? If contracts can get sold, why not work out a trade?
  22. Rickey Henderson - the stats say it all Tommy John - He deserves to be in, if only for the risk he took to save his career. Mark McGwire - As far as I'm concerned, the andro was legal and allowed by MLB, so he gets a vote. Bert Blyleven - A fine career, and the numbers are not much different from Tommy John's. Jack Morris - I'll put him in based on the three World Series rings and the CG%. Almost making my cut: Jim Rice Alan Trammell Dave Parker Tim Raines
  23. Dunn in left, Cameron in center, Hart in right Braun-Hardy-Weeks-Fielder in the infield Weeks Hardy Braun Fielder Hart Dunn Cameron Kendall/Rivera Brewers, meet NL pitching... NL pitching, meet your worst nightmare!
  24. I consider myself quite rational - and to quote Ned Yost, "Milwaukee is it for me." Of course, my fastball tops out at 30 miles per hour. But maybe I can teach my nephew how to throw a splitter and slider over Christmas...
