  1. That was to Jeffscott who said that Attanasio hasn't generated profits. Its more to try to kill bad information that seems to prop up talking about how poor the Brewers are.
  2. You're the one who linked to Forbes where it had a $10m profit last year when they weren't going to make any money. http://images.forbes.com/...sts/33/2010/op337147.gif
  3. LaPorta, Salome, Escobar, Gamel Seems to be pretty premature to include those guys in the list of guys who haven't translated their success to AAA or the big leagues. Gamel has hit very well in AAA and performed adequately in his first taste of the big leagues despite being put in a position to struggle due to the way he was used. Escobar is a rookie this year and has been coming around as of late and had success in AAA. Salome is a unique case, but it's also too early to write him off. LaPorta's had a ton of success in AAA and is now starting to put up some decent numbers for a 25 year old rookie in Cleveland. On balance, AA is generally viewed as the most difficult transition you'll face on your way up the minor league ladder. You'll obviously see guys at every level who failed to perform as well after moving up, but I think you'll see fewer at AA than the other levels, save obviously for the jump from AAA up to the big leagues. Didn't see this, but yeah its a jump but its not the only one. Only Gamel looks to have continued on. LaPorta has been bad in Cleveland and he hadn't matched what he did in Huntsville in AAA until this year in 80 odd PAs as a 25 year old. There is no reason to believe Salome is ever going to get back to the value he had at the end of 2008. Escobar didn't have real success in AAA. A 760 OPS isn't blasting the ball around.
  4. Well he might not be a liar but he isn't telling the truth. "Budgeted" to can mean lots of things. The Brewers up until last year have been making 8 figure profits and last year they had a seven figure one.
  5. A few things. The first is that the Brewers under Attanasio have been very profitable. He has been making profits that must cause the Selig-Prieb's to drool. This is the first season where the Brewers might dip slightly into the red under Attansio being primary owner. Now much of this has come from the fact the Brewers draw exceptionally well in addition to revenue sharing. The second is that nothing really is comparable to sports stadiums. No, local governments don't take on huge projects like $500m stadiums all the time. And its it basically a handout to one business that really isn't the big in terms of employment or financial worth. Do you see the city of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin talking about building Harley a $500m plant? And Harley has a market cap of $5.65B compared to the Brewers being worth about $300m (I think Forbes' valuation jump around way too much since they base it on current years profit projected forward and not on what really matters, market size).
  6. The Pirates are arguably the worst run franchise in MLB and has been for years (only the Royals and the Marlins under Loria are close). Why should constant failure earn a profit?
  7. The McCourts also had the entire family on no-show 6 figure jobs.
  8. Gomez(or Cain) would not have used an option. Cain already used an option this year. Gomez would not have spent enough time in the minors to use an option. Here is a question, why the crap do you leave Parra in there to get his brains beat in if you have Riske available to pitch? I wonder if they didn't option Gomez down because he was already claimed on waivers at the beginning of the month and pulled back. I think he has enough service time now he needs to be placed on waivers to be optioned down and the second time the waivers are irrevocable.
  9. He would have to agree to the split contract. If he thinks he can get a 25 man spot if he gets non-tendered, I'm not sure that he would.
  10. Gomez does need to pass revocable waivers however he can't refuse an assignment to AAA as far as I understand it.
  11. Sports teams always go up in value, its just how fast that changes.
  12. He won't be making minor league money. He's making $1.15m this year and will make similar no matter what level he plays next year.
  13. No its huge The pirates are worth what, at most $200m? A $15m yearly return before we talk about appreciation of value is a lot of money.
  14. Where does this idea that Yost played young players come from? Yost benched Alex Sanchez, who is much like Gomez, for the gritty Brady Clark. He benched Hardy after 6 weeks when he didn't hit right away. He buried Corey Hart behind Kevin Mench even after Hart hit the season before. If Yost was in Milwaukee, Counsell would be the starting SS 5 days a week, and we'd have another catcher added after Yost complained that he needs someone like him on the field.
  15. Well anyone that lists Jeter as the 3rd best defensive SS in the AL must know what they are doing
  16. Hawpe in RF? Its one of the few ways you could actively make the Brewers' defense worse.
  17. Roger Clemens has been indicted for making false statements to Congress. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/20/sports/baseball/20clemens.html?_r=2
  18. The point is that it will be using an option for like 10 days. It makes little sense to waste it for that reason.
  19. If he's healthy he can petition to be activated. Still wouldn't waste his option, option down McClendon instead if it comes to it.
  20. He also has a K/9 rate of over 9 this season and a K/bb of 2. That isn't great but it isn't de la Rosa here. De la Rosa had a BB/9 of 8.08 his last season in Milwaukee.
  21. Inglett could replace McGehee at 3B.
  22. Its because he's cheap for the next few years and the Brewers can easily replace him is why trading him makes sense.
  23. Al is wrong. If the money is for salary relief more than $1m can change hands. You just can't buy players. So the Brewers can't trade Fielder to the Yankees for Melky Cabrera and $10m.
  24. If they aren't on the 40 man they don't need to go through waivers. If they are on the 40 man I think they can be a PTBNL as long as they didn't spend any time in the major leagues.
  25. So team UZR explains about 1/5th of a team's winning percentage and somehow this makes UZR bad?
