Since it will soon be 2011, I think what he did in 2010 is more relevant. There's lots of guys that had success in 2008 that I wouldn't want in 2011.And in 4 interleague games in 2010 he had an ERA of 0.92 and therefore is a NL CY Young contender...
No he really wasn't. He had a spectacular April (.971 OPS) which made people think he was really good all year long since it took the rest of the season for him to regress to being about average. For Melky that's good, but that's on a curve.
People are saying he'd never be worth $12m per year. His value over the past 4 seasons: $12.7, $9.4, $6.3, $24.3 which averages out to $13.75m even though his missed most of 2009.
I think people are undervaluing what Weeks did even when not healthy. His WARs the last 4 seasons: 3.1, 2.1, 1.4, 6.1. A 3 win player is worth $10 a year easily and Weeks has a much greater ceiling than that.
Rosenthal is as thinly sourced as Gammons. Braun is unlikely to be traded because he has a no trade clause which means he'd have to be paid to waive it and that just becomes a mess. And his contract really isn't that wonderful after 2011 so the idea that its a steal is off. 6/8.5/10/12(did he qualify as Super 2?) is good but this isn't Longoria we're talking about.
To get my head around player, I tend to look at these lists: http://www.baseballprojection.com/war/top500p.htm http://www.baseballprojection.com/war/top500.htm They aren't perfect(relievers aren't separated out and catcher defense isn't there) and aren't meant as a definitive ranking but can give you a good idea of the neighborhood a player is is in. So for Vida Blue is like Frank Viola and not even really close. Tommy John is right on the border depending how you weigh peak and longevity make a huge difference for him. And Steve Garvey really doesn't belong.
Al 11pm is not prime time. TDS got the same number of viewers as O'Reilley at the same time, and they are less to just have fallen asleep with the TV on.
Somewhat true. Uggla is looking for that 5th year. I think this is what Weeks will want also. I am not sure if Melvin will give Weeks a 5-year deal but whatever Uggla signs for that is what Weeks will be looking at getting. The big difference there is that Uggla is about to enter his 31 year old season and Weeks is about to enter his 28 year old season.
According to Rosenthal, so take it as it is, but Uggla turned down a rather large contract for a 2B. How this affects a possible Weeks deal is up in the air. It means that Uggla will also be on the market but the market looks like ti might be higher than most expected. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Dan-Uggla-turns-down-Florida-Marlins-contract-offer-110810
Rogers isn't major league ready as a starter. He might be in June, maybe. Its not like he pitched light out last year. He could easily need a full year in AAA if he continues to walk hitters. He has the K's and can easily pitch relief but that's different.
So I give it until May for them to realize the Brewers shouldn't steal (call it the the Yost Date) and things will be the same except no more two inning saves.
The one reason why dealing Fielder might be best is that the one top FA I could see having no problem signing with the Brewers is Adam Dunn. I mean how many opposing players feel comfortable enough to to walk up from the visiting team's dugout to visit the radio booth during a game? So he's my choice.
The difference is that the pool of talent for managers compared to the openings available are much greater than for players. You want to sign an average major league player at 2B? Each year you might have 7 options. Ypu want ot hire a manger? There are hundreds out there for 5 or so jobs a year.
The problem isn't that McGehee won an award and Weeks didn't. Its the fact that of the 6 ballots turned in,3 listed McGehee as the best player. This is the press that covers the Brewers. Who are the six? I assume its Haudricort and Witrado. Hunt was listed as a member in the past so likely him. I don't know if Drew Olsen is still a member. He likely could be if he wanted to be but he might have resigned from the group. McCalvy writes for the internet so probably not him unless he was before the job with mlb.com.
