He pitches different in relief in Milwaukee even compared to him starting in Nashville. In Milwauke his K/9 is 6.89 in Nashville it was 5.46. Part of that is by design by shielding him from facing LH hitters.
If say I was in charge of developing players and their defense and then proceeded to have the major league club field a horrendous defensive team made up of my graduates I'd blame the players too.
It seems almost like they put Haren on teh market, ownership then proceeded to spend $30m before Haren was traded and then panicked and basically dumped him when they couldn't find a sizable offer.
Neither Hart nor Fielder need to be dealt right now if the deal isn't there. Hoffman and Riske make enough that they can be moved in August and Bush is right on the cusp of that as well.
McGehee isn't a decent DH for any team. Now McGehee alone likely wouldn't bring much (see what the Royals got for Callaspo, 2 C type pitching prospects).
Yes you can keep him but you also have to deal with the fact his arm could blow out at any time. I'm not saying he needs to be moved, its that if you get offered something you think about it. Yes he could become Joe Nathan but the Twins this year are showing how much even elite closers really matter.
The big issue is Axford is 27. He probably has 4-5 really good years in his arm including this one. Of those 4-5 seasons, this is a wasted one, next year is likely a wasted one if both Fielder and Hart are moved (and Weeks coudl be moved as well).
Its more that he wants to show up his father so I think he'd welcome becoming a HoF player in Detroit. His desire to be better than his father is also why I think he won't follow Cecil's career path.
If we compare Howard's prime to Fielder pre-prime they are even. Now Fielder is about to enter his prime while Howard is leaving his and Fielder has been the better player last season and this season.
Ordonez's contract is up after this year and my guess is the Tigers would love for Fielder to play for them. If they think that he might be going to the Sox meaning they would have no shot at him this offseason they might make a move for him now to keep him from the Sox and to have him going forward.
1). Any contract can be reworked as long as the total dollar amount doesn't change taking into account inflation if the money gets truly deferred 2) Its been done 3) I assume its just to signal that the catcher had to catch it for the out 4) When 2nd and 3rd bottom of the 9th or extras with the winning run on 3B, I don't see any advantage there.
You can't compare early decade Huntsville with Hunstville today. I can't find it now but I believe that early decade Hunstville had a park factor like .85 and now its like .95.
Braddock isn't a reliever because the Brewers wanted him in Milwaukee really fast, he's a reliever because they don't think his arm can handle more than like 80 innings a season. Maybe if he stays healthy through age 25 he might get moved to the rotation but I doubt it.
Can you name some? I'm just curious who you might be referring to? We've seen numerous Brewers prospects who put up the worst year of their minor league career at AA. LaPorta, Salome, Escobar, Gamel
What the hell are the Phillies doing? So basically they are saying they should have kept Lee but now will give up even more talent and get stuck with even more long term contracts for older players.
I don't see why Fielder's salary next year is a big deal. The White Sox can afford it with Konerko's deal up. Don't get how paying $15m for a $20m player is suddenly a huge issue.
