  1. The DBacks want 2 starting pitchers and bullpen help according to Heyman: http://sportsillustrated..../index.html?eref=writers The Brewers don't have that. Haren looks only to be available if teh DBacks get blown away. The guy I'd love the Brewers to target is Joba Chamberlin. Give the Yankees some actual relievers and Bush and take Chamberlin and have him start.
  2. The Brewers have tons of money and Haren isn't that expensive so no Hart or Fielder need not be traded. Now the Brewers don't have the talent to get Haren. Oswalt has been as good a Gallardo this year.
  3. Not really. Weeks leads in WAR just over Fielder and Gallardo with 3.0 vs 2.8 and 2.9 (so if you add in Gallardo's bat he moves ahead). Hart is at 2.5 due to his lower OBP. Hart really isn't up there. Now Hart has been the biggest (positive) surprise no doubt.
  4. My brother's wireless went out last week when the power at his house went out and I'm the one who will likely have to put it right. So a few things to know, he uses Bertram Wireless out of Random Lake as his ISP (http://www.bertramwireless.com/). He is about 500 yds from the tower and that seems to cause some problems so the only way I got it to work to begin with was using a switch with a decent buffer, otherwise the signal would drop and even if up would be really slow(using an admittedly old router). Now when he built the house we spent a lot of time running running data tubes throughout so really there is a possible ethernet port every 5 feet. However his girlfriend wanted wireless so I had her get a new linksys router which I daisy chained to the switch. While the old routers didn't work as a wireless access point this one did. So all was good until this past week. Now the wireless is down, the switch might not be working and I'm being called upon. I told them to reset everything already and to bring things up systematically instead of all at once. They supposedly did that and they can't get the network back up. I guess they can get a signal right from the modem but not any where else. Bertram told them teh router likely blew, which is possible but I have my doubts. I'll likely be there tomorrow or so, so anyone have ideas how I should start after I cycle everything?
  5. Just caught Haudicrot on the D-List--expect no end to sitting down Parra talk from the MJS.
  6. He looks good because he's been good. A UZR/150 of 8.1 and 7.1 in CF is good. I doubt playing full time he can keep that up but you can't fault his defense this year.
  7. You like them harping on things that are meaningless? Because run distribution is meaningless. The Brewers are 40-50. Their run differential projects a 39.6-50.4 record. Their 2nd order record is 41.1-48.9 and their 3rd order record is 39.2-50.8.
  8. Yep it was rumored because it was said they couldn't "afford" him. That turned out to be completely wrong so it was most likely all part of the Marlins negotiating strategy and Johnson wasn't ever really out there.
  9. And that matters why exactly? If the Brewers move Hart that's it for the season.
  10. Katin comes up and would platoon with Edmonds (assuming a 40 man spot opens up). Gomez would play until he gets better or drives everyone insane.
  11. Loney is at best an average to slightly above average player. He'll have 4 years of service time at the end of the year and is about to get rather expensive for an averagish 1B with defense issues. You take him back in a trade for Fielder to fit Fielder in the contract space with the Dodgers not because he has any value otherwise.
  12. We all like our athletes to be political forces after they're dead or way past their prime (Ali) when we can all remember when. When its actually happening, not so much.
  13. Both Chicago teams will be looking for a 1B and so should the Dodgers. The Mariners might be looking to make a push as well and use Fielder as a DH for one year. I really doubt the Yankees can afford to have a full time DH with the mid 30s ARod and Jeter and the late 30s Posada all needing rest during the season.
  14. Fielder is a better player for the money. Teixeira is 4 years older than Fielder, thats a huge difference in a 5 or 6 year contract.
  15. I'm not saying its the wrong call. I'm saying its not as easy as people are making it out to be. Sure moving Dave Bush is easy. Cashing in on next year in the middle of this season is not.
  16. Trading Hart, Fielder and/or Weeks isn't giving up on just this year but next year too. And that's where the issues come up. Yes Cain might replace Hart but more likely he'll take time to adjust and is unlikely to give you what Hart would next season. Yes you might get someone who can help next year in trade but if you want true impact talent that likely will be a guy in AA who could use more time in the minors.
  17. It goes to the big negative Gomez gets on his error component. His -1.0 is why his UZR/150 stinks this year.
  18. Its from Phil Rogers so it unlikely has much basis in this reality.
  19. Cameron knew where to throw the ball to, Gomez does not.
  20. Because teams no longer pay people to be fulltime DHs. Ortiz is the last of a dying breed.
  21. "which major contributors has Melvin acquired via FA or trade?" Seriously? Casey McGehee, Mike Cameron, Craig Counsell, Dave Bush, Chris Capuano, Doug Davis, Francisco Cordero, Carlos Lee, Lyle Overbay, Felipe Lopez
  22. Pena had a terrible May. But he hit .256/.364/.556 in June. He's doing Ok in July so far .233/.343/.433. Fielder is better but not that much better going forward.
  23. They're willing to move a slightly above average about to be expensive player? Wow how generous of them! Or Wade Davis and his below replacement level production? Obviously Davis has upside but let's not pretend we're talking about major impacts to the Rays here.
  24. But that's all do to an error rate so its even more variable than normal OF UZR.
