  1. Yeah Lucroy as a 1B fill in makes no sense. If they want a stop gap Carter is available, Reynolds is available neither of which would cost that much comparatively.
  2. Broxton is back on the team, Reed is struggling but needs to get a chance at some point, Roache given his age needs to be promoted quickly. Heck, with Phillips, Liriano and Broxton might as well see if Wren can be a 5th ofer before he becomes blocked forever. You could make the case the Brewers might get a PTBNL/26 year old AAA relief arm for Nieuwenhuis if a team has to cover a CF injury or needs a solid 5th OFer. But what team is going to even consider Presley?
  3. Right the Dodgers would be willing to take on Braun's contract. They won't give up anything for him unless say the Brewers take on the remains of Carl Crawford.
  4. Hader is 22. There is no reason to push him and his arm. There is a burning a year of service time when its questionable if he is ready. There is also the fact that he is a pitcher. Pitchers get hurt. Pitchers get hurt a lot. If he gets hurt in Milwaukee that few months of service time turns into years of service time rehabbing on the DL. Similarly there is no reason to bring up either Arcia or Phillips this year.
  5. Every single quote published in a newspaper is cleaned up. And not just from athletes. We speak in an entirely different way than we write. So even in conversation a given stametn seems fine it can look ridiculous in print.
  6. Unlikely? Right now he would be a lock. Has been one of the Top 3 in all of baseball at 1B so far. Now whether or not he can keep this pace or slightly below it for two more months is obviously questionable, but then again I am surprised he has stayed hot this long. I would say he has a decent shot at an All Star bid. That being said that has nothing to do with the home run derby as they changed the rule to allow non all stars to be selected. Yoenis Cespedes took part in 2013 despite not being an all star selection. Unless it has been changed back to the old rules he doesn't need to be an all star. Sure but the other two are Rizzo from the Cubs and Belt from the Giants. Working for Carter is the fact the Brewers need a representative and Braun has a great deal of antipathy from the league office, Lucroy may not be a Brewer by the All Star game and Gennett has missed significant time. Working against Carter are the facts that Goldschmidt and Votto are likely to start hitting more and have name recognition (ignoring the debate is the All Star for truly the best players or the best half season) and the Braves only real notable position player is Freeman.
  7. Latos has pitched like Wily Peralta (xFIP 4.96 vs 5.06). Just because he has an 93.8% LOB and a really low FB/HR% does not mean he is good.
  8. Yep. And that means next May at the earliest given Arcia is not banging down the door and Phillips needs to improve to avoid repeating AA.
  9. Nobody of any real talent is coming up this year, unless you count Guerra but then he isn't coming up to be part of the future. There is not any point in doing so. And its not like any Brewer position player is having a good enough year that should definitely have them come up. Roache likely should be promoted to AAA soon and maybe he'll be in Milwaukee at the end of the year if he continues to perform and Braun gets traded(or hurt). Outside of that? Broxton is doing OK but his K rate is still scary for an 800 OPS in Colorado. Reed is hitting for no power and projects worse than Flores. Perez is already on the Brewers.
  10. Yep, Lind was a solid performer for years. Carter was non-tendered he was so bad in 2015 by the Astros who had no real 1B/DH options ready but still did not want to spend $3m on Carter. The best thing for trading Carter is that he can be traded at any time. If I'm the White Sox, I'd would be inquiring daily trying to get something to done to shore up their DH slot.
  11. And that is missing the biggest issue. Any injury and he will get service time until healthy.
  12. This really doesn't make sense. Flores needs PAs. Nieuwenhuis is basically doing as expected (a 79 wRC+ is inline with the 90 or so projected). Presly is just an older Nieuwenhuis. AS for Taylor, Clark, Reed, etc. the idea we should harm actual prospect development for this season and take away PAs to evaluate Flores makes no sense. If you want to call up a Brewer minor leaguer, it should be Wren. He's 25 and stuck in AA. He's likely not an answer but this is the best chance to see if he can be a 5th OFer.
  13. Carter is a 1 year (at most) stop gap. If he regains form he gets traded, likely at the deadline. If he doesn't and reverts to the guy the Astros non-tendered (despite having next to zero 1B/DH options) the Brewers will non-tender him after the season.
  14. I'm disappointed. I thought for sure this would have changed to a Braun to the Cubs trade thread by now.
  15. There is absolutely no evidence for this. Peralta is the same mediocre pitcher whether Lucroy or Moldonado is catching. Baseball-reference has splits by catcher and its is basically the same. A 99 OPS+ with Lucroy in 265.1 innings and a 100 OPS+ with Moldonado in 257.2 innings The ERA is different but that is likely more due to the CS% with Lucroy at a mediocre 18% but Moldonado at a unlikely to continue 55%. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=peralwi01&year=Career&t=p Peralta is easy to figure out. He can't control his off speed stuff and so his fastball get hammered. Its why you think about moving him to the bullpen.
  16. I'm not saying give up on Jungmann at all. I actually like him quite a bit. You trot him out there in another 5 days. But yesterday this game was all but lost after the 3rd because we tried to get through as many innings with him as we could. And for no real reason. You have a day off today and you have guys like Cravy, Cappy, etc... who are a dime a dozen so use them and try to hold the fort and just maybe the offense could've got going. Chances are we still lose by a bunch but it might give you a punchers chance. The game was over at the end of the first. The Brewers win probability was at about 20%. At that the end of the second it was 8%. So no you don't just throw guys out there in a game that was basically already over.
  17. Oh no, no one will challenge Juan Pierre's sac bunt achievement! I mean that was a very weird list. 100 innings for a reliever? Who cares? 250 innings for a starter? Yep, things changed. 75 steals will happen. A 40/40 season will happen.
  18. I'm just not sold on him. He's light years behind Rivera defensively and has big questions on the offensive side. He's kind of fast I guess? Edit: Case in point why I'd like to take a chance with the much better defender: The Brewers have great defense... almost nowhere. That is probably underestimating the issue. Projections have Villar regressing to the mean (here average defensive SS) since he hasn't played that much in the majors. That said, he has a UZR/150 of -26.1 in 1344 innings at SS. That is untenable. He basically has to hit at an above league average rate at SS to overcome that glove just to be replacement level. If Lucroy is traded and Pinto fills in for 80 games, that could be one of the worst defenses ever put together.
  19. Since Flores and Santana can fill in at CF, I would rather see Middlebrooks make the team since he has a small shot to be some part of the future, much more than Presely, Nieuwenhuis, or EY. If Broxton flails, you send him down and bring up Wren for his likely only shot.
  20. i can't recall a brewer who was likely ticketed to the minor leagues (such as barrios) ever being put on the 60-day disabled list before opening day. it likely stems from the team's reluctance for that player to earn major league service time (and pay) while on the disabled list. I vaguely remember a player winning a complaint against the Brewers forcing him to be added to the 60 man during extended spring training since his injury occurred with the major league club.
  21. If Broxton was young keeping him down would make sense, but he is about to be 26 so it really doesn't matter. (Phillips should not be in Milwaukee this year). That said Flores is 23 and hit as well as Broxton last year in AAA without the K issues.
  22. How has Tejada been abysmal? He has a career wRC+ of 86 which is good for a SS and a 95 last season. He's only 26.
  23. Of course the Brewer's should claim him. He has every chance to bounce back to be at least an average SS at the same cost as Carter, and his defense would be miles better than Vilalr's. And if the Cardinals don't get a needed piece for free, so much the better.
