  1. Robertson: wRC+ 66 "Garbage DFA!" Tellez: wRC+ 65 "Our new 1B for years to come!"
  2. What are you basing the "easy choice" off of, out of curiosity. Freddy has been better in almost every stat category from old school stats to next gen stats. Wins, losses, ERA, Starts, CG, IP, SO, Opp Avg, R/9, WAR, R The only two things that Burns has done better are walks allowed and HR allowed. But even with his big lead in those two, they have an identical WHIP, and Freddy allows fewer runs per 9. Don't get me wrong, I think that Corbin is deserving, but I don't think he's clearly better than Freddy, especially as of late. Burnes is better in K/9, BB/9, HR/9, xERA, FIP, xFIP, and Fangraphs WAR by 1.4 wins. Burnes is closer to DeGrom than Peralta is to Burnes.
  3. To me it's just a little too much potential disruption to team chemistry and the pitching staff to replace the backup catcher in the middle of the season. Narvaez is going to start the vast majority of games anyway, so there is very little to be gained even if things work out. The question is, how anemic of a bat can you allow to exist in the big league roster until you replace him? Haase ZIPS projections going forward: 87 wRC+ Pina ZIPS projection going forward: 82 wRC+ Could Haase keep up his current hitting? Sure, but that is not expected. You can make the case he is one of those players who just never got an opportunity but he based on what he did in AAA 2018 and 2019 not much was expected. Getting a trade done will also be difficult. Haase will be thought of a back up catcher with potential but that doesn't bring a lot in return. But if the Tigers keep him and he keeps hitting they may have a tope hitting catcher on there hands which could return actual value and help a rebuild. So no reason for the Tigers to trade him for a Corey Ray type return.
  4. Its big for Milwaukee because the Brewers even when good seemed cursed, but teams run off 10 and 11 game streaks all the time. I mean the A's 13 game streak was more a footnote than anything. Even the Red Sox 8 game streak is kind of just there after their 9 game streak earlier.
  5. The player to get from the Marlins is Garrett Cooper. He can fill in at 1B or be in a platoon with Vogelbach (who should not face LHers ever) and he can take PAs away from JBJ occasionally.
  6. Finally get to see why Tampa traded Adames who's been nothing short of Milw's best player since that trade. Franco will have some big expectations to fill. Also this must mean Super 2 timing has reached it's exit and promotions will be happening all around MLB teams. Adames had a Hiura/JBJ like 42 wRC+ in April. If he was on the Brewers at that time, Brewerfan would have demanded he be replaced immediately.
  7. Eduardo Escobar from Arizona makes sense now even if just for a small period of time. Shouldn't take much to acquire him.
  8. This has to be the worst hiring of a manger ever. You're the White sox, you don't have that much goodwill to burn. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31526788/family-cries-foul-chicago-white-sox-change-name-food-area-honor-tony-la-russa
  9. Great. In ten years when the pendulum swings the other way and nobody can get anyone out we'll move the mound forward again. Or else we just let this cycle of better pitching pass and not have to make major changes to the game every decade or so. They do make changes, so moving the mound forward in the future would not be the end of the world. MLB expended the strike zone when they thought offenses were too strong. MLB played around with the ball. They put in a 3 batter minimum. Offences are going to get even worse as more teams adopt the third time through the order penalty in their decision making.
  10. Yes yes yes. The current offensive strategies WORK. That’s what people don’t understand. Is it garbage to watch? Yes. But it works. Imagine how bad it would be if guys were trying to bunt these 92 mph breaking pitches. Sorry, but you can’t magically increase the reaction time of hitters. Blaming it on the hitters makes no sense. They are doing exactly what they should be doing. Moving back the mound by 1 ft works because it increases the reaction time enough to reduce the perceived pitch speed by 1.5 mph or so. Which is equivalent to how much velocity has increased in the past 20 years. Plus, longer distance means breaking pitches are more likely to break out of the zone. It’s the best idea by far to tilt things back toward hitters a bit. Every other sport has figured this out already and tinkers the rules every year. There didn’t have to be major changes, we could have moved the mound back by one inch every year. But now we’re so far behind the curve that drastic adjustments need to be made, and it can’t be garbage like changing the baseball without telling anyone and then lying about it. Set up a process and get owners and players (and the media+fans) to buy in. How about putting someone like Jomboy on the rules committee as well? Yep. The hitters have adjusted. The launch angle was the adjustment. A flatter swing won't get more hits, just more mid-outfield pop ups with the same number of Ks. Pitching has changed. Spin rate changed things. Off-speed pitches are significantly faster and are used much more often. Fastballs may now be less than half of all pitches thrown. Lowering the mound or moving the mound back is will impact this. little else will. I mean my idea of not having caught foul balls be outs would help (and prevent some of the worst baseball injuries I've seen) though not sure how much, but the pitching is dominant and hitters are doing the best they can.
  11. It is important to note Sheets had two curve balls. One was the 12-6 swinging strike one. The other was thrown for called strikes at the top of the zone with a much tighter break.
  12. Ray King though I'm sure there are others. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kingra01.shtml#all_transactions_other
  13. When you only know 3/5 of the infield it's kind of hard to judge it as a whole. When your catcher and 2B are among the worst at the position and you SS is likely below average, pretty sure you have a good idea.
  14. When you have a catcher projected to be worth 3/4 a win next year, well you have to jump on that! That offensive decline probably doesn't happen but we are still talking about like a 1 to 1.5 win catcher at best. Navererz has 4.4 career WAR. Grandal was 5.2 last year. This looks to be a terrible defensive infield tight now.
  15. If you want a 3B signed to a short term high annual contract, that isn't Rendon. You want to go after Donaldson.
  16. The Brewers lost a 5 win player to a cheap contract because we didn't want a 34 year old getting $17 million to play catcher on a Brewer team that will likely win 70 games. Of course that player is projected for 3 wins that year but hey, we have a 33 year old catcher to play on a team hoping to win 90+ games this year!
  17. Segura was really good in Milwaukee his first year. Arcia has never been good.
  18. Always go for 2 in that situation https://predictivefootball.com/late-and-trailing-by-14-points-always-go-for-2-after-a-touchdown/
  19. While I normally very much agree with opinion, the fact that the Dodgers lost is dramatic fashion last night due to their bullpen will definitely have them making changes in the offseason. As someone said a few posts ago, Hader is much more valuable to a team like the Dodgers than a team like the Giants. A player like Hader in Dodger stadium is a Chapman type acquisition. If they come calling, Stearns should listen and see what can be pried away. If they dangled Lux and May, I would hope there would be a conversation there. Resign Moose, Lux and SS, Keston at 2b, Thames/Braun at first is a pretty darn good infield. RP like Hader are not a dime a dozen, but if Stearns wants to consistently push for the playoffs, this might be the best way to go about it. Not sure how Hader would have changed things if the manager never puts him in the game.
  20. The legality is highly questionable but since most of the foreign players will want to return to the US on work visas, even if they have the legal right to do so spending months trying to sort out visa issues is not good especially since MLB says they want to stay out of it.
  21. Thames wRC+ 119: Not going to pick up that option! Not worth $6.5 million! Moustakas wRC+ 119: Let's sign him at $15 million per year to play 1B!
  22. Not really. Get rid of Saladino and bring back Perez (or trade a PTBNL for Sogard if you are so inclined), and option down Gamel. Have Thames share time with Braun in the OF and have Shaw/Moustakas share time at 1B and 3B with Perez/Sogard being the utility INF and 5th OFer.
  23. Can we stop we the Braun should be a 1B/DH? He barely hits enough to play corner OF. He hasn't hit well enough for 1B/DH since 2016 and even then he would only have been a decent not great player there. That said if he wants he likely could easily get 3-5 million in 2021 to be a 4th OFer or a starter on a team with a hole.
  24. I wouldn't have done this (I would have optioned down Burnes or Gamel letting Thames/Perez fill in the OF until something gives) but let's not pretend that the Brewers haven't manipulated service time before or that Hiura defense isn't an issue (UZR/150 of -30.4).
