Kottaras has a career ISO of .206. His bat is real. A team willing to sue him as a bat of the bench/back up catcher can hardly do better. And that is basically only the Brewers because Roenicke has at least decided that having to play 1 inning with a non catcher behind the plate on the rare day your other catcher gets injured isn't the end of the world.
Since if a team keeps a player a full year they get comp picks but any other team doesn't I think you'll see many more trades of average players with very few very good players being moved.
Ishikawa last season hit .251/.368/.383 in the PCL. I don't care about 7 PAs in Milwaukee. I care about a 211 PAs in AAA where even with a BABIP of .351 he was a 27 year old 1B who hit like a utility infielder. Is Conrad a better overall hitter? Probably its close to a push but Conrad is an actual infielder and is right handed.
Gennett is not on Week's level. Maybe he'll develop power but right now he's a hitter for average with a low walk rate with questions about his defense.
If Axford and Rodriguez weren't having some control issues/poor defensive play behind them the bullpen wouldn't be an issue. Parra and Dillard are #6 and #7 in the bullpen. Ishikawa brings nothing. He isn't even an Almonte who at least crushed the ball in AAA the previous season. He's more Jeremy Reed who has consistently proven he is a backup AAA player.
Gindl is more in competition with Schafer than anyone on the Brewers right now. Even if Morgan and Hart are moved, I think Aoki get one spot and Schafer and Gindl have to compete for the other. And of course Ishikawa will still be the 4th OFer...
Replacing Greinke and Marcum with Estrada and Peralta is likely a 7 win swing in 2013. Most young players take about half a season to adjust so for his first year so counting on average to above average play from Peralta is tricky. So you are now below .500. Do you risk and hope in Hart's last year? My feeling is you move him because the downside is too great and your time frame right now is 3 years until Gallardo's contract is up. So you rebuild in 2013 hoping everything is set for 2014-2015 if you can't bring back Greinke. So Hart's gone. Now look at the over 30 players. Morgan is gone for a B-/C prospect. Narveson probably should be moved. You may pick up Wolf's option to give you some stability and maybe move him by the deadline. Weeks is a question because he isn't really replaceable but his injury history and age makes him a risk to hold onto through a rebuilding year. Ramirez might be tradeable mostly because the teams seem to be awash in money and next year's position FA class stinks. It's basically Mike Napoli and Josh Hamilton and each of those guys has their own issues.
In what world would Ozzie think major league baseball turn a blind eye to him Castro comments? http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/schmuck/castroangelos.jpg
