  1. When I saw this topic, the first thing I thought of was Rocky and Bullwinkle. Not surprisingly, as its FAQ says, the site gets its name from Mr. Peabody's WABAC machine: http://susanwiggs.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/wayback-machine2.jpg We've seen pictures of the "old look" on the main site and the message board. The current look was brought in late in 2004. Here's what the message board looked like at that point; it had black links, a sidebar, and a set 800 pixel width: Brewerfan.net Fan Forum: 2004-12-07. Not long after that, the sidebar was removed: Brewerfan.net Fan Forum: 2005-02-15. And soon after the sidebar was removed, the links became brick red: Brewerfan.net Fan Forum: 2005-03-29. The last big "look and feel" change on the board came with the move to Yuku on August 1, 2007. Besides all of the Yuku toys, the most notable design change was the use of a flexible width rather than the set 800 pixel width. I didn't include a Yuku link: they're archived, but the CSS doesn't load, so they don't look "right."
  2. Ack! When I responded a couple of nights ago, I completely missed the Firefox part of the question. When you click on Account in your navigation bar, and hit Preferences, is WYSIWYG chosen as your default editor type? Also, are you having trouble seeing other Yuku images, such as the new post (baseball) icons, sticky icons, etc.?
  3. It's IE 8. You need to run Yuku in compatibility mode. See this topic: Attention Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) users
  4. Sorry Casey. I have major issues with WAR and how it attempts to explain how much a player is worth. But I'll just stay out of this one the rest of the way. Hate those Rodents, I wasn't thinking in terms of your message when I posted about condescension. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I think it's valid to put out some stats and ask what they'd be worth under this system. (There might be an issue with batting average not providing enough information, but that's not an etiquette thing.) I was concerned about the messages that seemed to be insulting other members. Calling opinions ridiculous (or some similar word) is what we'd like to avoid.
  5. are WAR values based on everyone having a Yankees payroll? I believe they're based on everyone being on the free agent pay scale. A couple of recent messages are tipping the condescension scale in the wrong direction. Let's play nice.
  6. Could be the alternator dude. Who's the alternator dude? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Anyone who thinks Escobar won't be the opening day SS next year is just being foolish. There's a way to word that without insulting the people who think that Hardy could be the opening day shortstop.
  8. On a Mac, you get to the command prompt by running Terminal. It's in the /Applications/Utilities folder. Paste in "telnet static.yuku.com 80" (no quotes) and hit Return. To escape and bring up a new command prompt, hit "]" (no quotes), then hit enter. Before actually returning to the command prompt, it'll bring up some followup information. After that, follow the same procedure with "telnet images.yuku.com 80" (no quotes). Don't include the ">" that Diskono mentions. It won't work. I'm not sure why blockers like to target static.yuku.com and images.yuku.com. Doing this breaks Yuku rather than blocking it. If they want to block Yuku, they should block all of yuku.com. Or they should be blocking individual boards.
  9. I agree. I think that's because they can't 'slow' that part of the game down themselves. I'm not disagreeing, but I'm wondering: why would that be an issue in the Majors but not in the Minors?
  10. Skip the baked stuff at WalMart, too. One time, I almost walked out with bagels that were three weeks past the expiration date.
  11. My dentist told me that composite fillings suck in several ways. Among other things, the seal isn't as secure as silver, and the probability of getting a cavity under the filling itself is greater. He went on to say that some people want to replace all their silver fillings with composite because they match the color of teeth. He only recommends composite in places that really show, like on front teeth. The only downside I see to silver at this point is that when one of those fillings wants to wear out and break, a chunk of the tooth tends to go along with it, and it's time for a crown.
  12. I did some checking. What's happening is that these "porn people" use the search to pop up usernames and ask to be authorized by whatever name appeals to them. Restricting calls and chat to people on your contact list has nothing to do with this; the problem is that you can't stop yourself from being searchable. I'd like it if I could keep myself from appearing in the search and simply e-mail my username to people I'd like to have contact me. A cool intermediate option would be to show up in searches only if my name is keyed in completely and correctly. Another thing that would slow spammers down considerably would be to build a CAPTCHA into contact requests. It wouldn't be much of a hassle for normal users to go through that step, but it'd slow spammers down considerably. At least all I'm getting is generic contact requests; I guess some include actual links to porn sites.
  13. I just got a fourth one. It's easy enough to not authorize these people; they don't receive any notification that you've refused them. Still, JimH5's mention of his daughter is exactly what crossed my mind. It makes me hesitant set up Skype for family members like 20fry did way back when. Having to take precautions adds an unnecessary layer to the learning curve. I'm sure I can stop this by restricting incoming calls and chats to my contact list. But I also think that's too restrictive. If I set that preference, wouldn't I also be making it tough for people I'd prefer to authorize?
  14. So, let me get this straight. Successful managers win more games compared to unsuccessful managers. Brilliant! That's the issue. "Successful" and "winning" are pretty much synonymous. Of course there's a correlation.
  15. Wow. . .strange to see a thread I started a year ago emerge again. And it's emerging again after another six month layoff. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I set up Skype this week and I've gotten one chat message and two contact authorization requests from "women" of questionable principles. How do they find me? I can't imagine them doing a search for me.
  16. Diskono and MJLiverock, I've given each of you posting access at LambeauLeap; you won't have to apply for membership. Jofis11ep, you already have posting access.
  17. Remember, when Bill Spiers was attacked in Milwaukee, it was a fan from Chicago! The fan was actually from South Beloit.
  18. Well, Al, at least your dropdowns aren't hanging open. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. FWIW, here is a list of players I compiled that need to be protected from Rule 5 draft While a team might find a way to get one or two of those players onto the 40-man in September, there's no need to do it until later in fall. By then, roster spots will have cleared for various reasons that wouldn't occur while the season was still going on.
  20. JoeHova's summary doesn't sound like anything personal, and it certainly doesn't sound like bashing. It's simply an assessment of how he felt things were at the time.
  21. I hope they find the guy, book him, and charge him. You forgot to finish your sentence. It should read: I hope they find the guy, book him, charge him, and convict him. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. "Under The Influence" by Citizen King
  23. That's difficult to answer without more information. Does your MacBook render Yuku pages properly when you use it on a network away from school? Does your personal machine screw up Yuku pages when you use it with your school's network? Do other Mac or Windows computers at your school have trouble displaying Yuku pages?
  24. The 20 days thing is clear in the contract. What isn't always clear when a day at the beginning or end of a demotion counts as a day in the majors or a day in the minors. I'm sure that's why Melvin was deferring to Ash. There've been moves in the past where Gord has been the spokesman regarding the rules. I'd guess he's the one in charge of knowing the repercussions of player moves and keeping in contact with the commissioner's office when any gray area is involved.
  25. Yuku fixed an issue with ezBoard redirects yesterday. The link that 1e Corbeau brought to our attention is working again.
