  1. If one ever runs across a tinyurl.com link or any other URL that's similarly shortened, a smart Internet surfer is going to think three times before clicking on it. LongURL.org removes any doubt. Paste in the shortened URL, click "Expand," and LongURL.org will show you its destination. This site should be especially useful for Twitter users. All links posted on Twitter are are shortened. You can't hover over them and see their true destinations in your browser's status bar. Thanks to Alison for posting this handy information. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. The annoying thing to me is that the newer painted bumpers can't take much of anything at all. It takes very little to scuff them. An older bumper probably would have given her a free pass and saved you some bother.
  3. Let's use the LambeauLeap Fantasy Football forum for this topic. Thanks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. It's in the first reply of the sticky: If you would like to purchase ticket packages, several tickets, or have any ticket related issues, please call 414-902-4263. Ask to speak with Jake Mentch.
  5. Those are interesting results, badgerfletch. They're in complete agreement that current practices totally underrate the importance of the #2 hitter. Also interesting is that Braun is rarely batting third in the list of best lineups, and Fielder isn't hitting third at all.
  6. And mods, if this is out of line, please feel free to remove it. I don't think the observation is out of line at all. There's one response in particular that's incredibly condescending, and there's another that crosses that line in a somewhat lesser fashion. That said, the lead is flawed, too. "I told you so" posts--and especially "I told you so" leads--don't sit well with either the membership or the mods. Additionally, as pretendastronaut says, the lead is "aimed at the totally wrong audience," and there isn't "justification for remotely believing a majority of Brewerfan.net members wanted to trade him off last year." The wrong people are being told to eat crow.
  7. Here's the existing Home Run Derby topic: 2009-07-13 Home Run Derby : 7:05 PM CT I've merged a copy of the post above into that thread.
  8. Is it possible to do the "double play opportunities" stat info for the 2008 season? I wonder if last year's Brewers were also around that 11% mark. If that's the case, could the rise in GIDP be related to the team's 13 point increase in OBP as much as anything else?
  9. It's being discussed here: 2009-07-10: Non Brewers IGT: Johnathan Sanchez gets a no-no Messages previously posted to this thread have been merged into that one.
  10. Please, let's not use this thread to re-dissect the Happy Youngster thing. The post directly above is fine. It would seem that a long, dragged out discussion of it (again) could send this thread into lock territory.
  11. It's generally not necessary to quote entire posts. Please stick to quoting the part that's relevant. Thanks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. gobrew23 is right. Fielder is under contract through 2010, but he's under the Brewers' control through 2011.
  13. As this conversation seems to be rehashing a lot of the same stuff, I'm closing the topic. If you wish to discuss the Hunt proposal, it'd be good material for the Transactions forum.
  14. Sorry for the dumb question but I'm confused what it means to be outrighted to Nashville, I thought he was in Nashville. Was he just removed from the 40 but is still in Nashville? By being removed does that mean he has to clear waivers to stay there? Yep. Nothing really changes except for the bookkeeping. He would have had to clear irrevocable waivers to be outrighted.
  15. In most workplaces, what Braun did would be called "Subordination". No, "subordination" is what Doug Melvin was attempting to do with his comments. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Only one game of Cub Series IGT goes longer than this stupid stuff. This is a pretty lousy thread that doesn't represent the site or its members very well, but let's refrain from calling it's content "stupid." A lot of the discussion seems to be much uglier than the actual situation at hand. It seems to me that the topic at hand would be, "Was it appropriate for Ryan to have said what he said, and was it appropriate for Doug to respond as he did?" Secondary topics would be the way the reporters handled it. I'm not sure that broadening the topic to the extent that we are, e.g. rehashing Melvin's entire career as Brewer GM, is all that necessary.
  17. I'm closing this topic. It appears that we've reached the point where everything has been asked and answered a number of times.
  18. It's getting pretty ridiculous how the Sewers are having to play from behind almost every game. Braun is an All-Star and is one BIG reason why the team has the record it does. When Fan Forum Etiquette was revised this past spring, mods considered adding a rule about name-calling. We refrained, in part because an occasional reference like "Meltdown Bradley" can be kind of fun. "Sewers" is the kind of thing we had in mind. Let's avoid stuff like that.
  19. Internet Explorer. Can it be outlawed? A Yuku staff member and I have been taking turns working on what would be a nifty addition to the Brewerfan/LambeauLeap board skins. She sent me some nice code, I tweaked it a bit, and it worked perfectly in Firefox, a couple of other Mozilla browsers, Opera, and Safari (which would mean it would also work in Chrome). She checked things out in IE. Here's part of her PM. I'm sure she won't mind me sharing: It'd be one thing if IE simply ignored the code. We wouldn't have to provide the feature to everyone. It breaks the pages, though. Yuck.
  20. I'm not sure what you're getting at. You start by saying that you're fine with how the Matsuzaka thing went down, then it seems that you're saying you're not. Matsuzaka was never a free agent. How would you suggest setting up a draft for Japanese players who would only be available if their teams allow them to be available? Additionally, even with a draft, wouldn't the cost issue continue to exist? If it's up to the team in Japan to agree to a compensation amount, many teams would be priced out of that market whether there's a draft or not.
  21. I'm going to lock this in favor of the LambeauLeap thread. I'll make sure that everyone who's posted to this thread has posting access over there.
  22. As of about ten days ago Hart was still rated as a type based on the Elias formula. I figured I'd better address this typo: As of about ten days ago Hart was still rated as a type A based on the Elias formula. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif He's the last Type A on the National League 1B-OF list.
  23. I've edited the topic title to be more explicative. The players association did actually agree to allow owners to implement a worldwide draft in the 2002 collective bargaining agreement. Owners never implemented one, however. I guess they decided it'd be too costly to implement. If you look at that decision, there's probably some sense behind it. Each team seems to find its own niche when it comes to foreign scouting. A draft would force teams to scout everywhere to be competitive. As Diskono says, there's probably no practical way to eliminate payments to Japanese teams when Major League teams want to sign their players who haven't reached free agency. We have to play by their rules. I suppose a draft for players who've reached free agency could be practical, however.
  24. When Yuku switched to its new search last fall, they somehow failed to "connect" it to tag links within threads. The irony is that the old search is superior for tag-related stuff. There's no lag when adding a tag (like there is with the new search), and the old search includes page numbering and "new post" icons. Additionally, the new search occasionally has trouble adding threads to tags; Yuku hasn't been able to pin down the reason why. Several times when the opportunity has arisen, I've suggested that Yuku reconnect the tags on forum pages to the old search. I'm not a developer, but it would seem to me that it'd be a whole lot easier than ironing out a list of tag-related bugs that are occurring with the new one. I haven't gotten any kind of response. Since Yuku was purchased by KickApps last year, the developers rarely post to the Support board. We used to have a direct line of communication with them. Heck, one of them even posted here at Brewerfan several times--and he'd stop by our chat room whenever we reported issues. The new search (when it doesn't come to a screeching halt) is far superior to the old search when it comes to looking for stuff in the forums by typing in terms. I can understand that it might break occasionally, but when it does, Yuku needs to be more conscientious about getting it fixed. They haven't fixed any board searches since April. If you're up for feeling frustrated, read this thread.
  25. Everything connected with the search function is busted right now. That would include any of the board/forum searches, clicking on tags in forum pages, or using the My Recent Posts feature. However, if you happen to find a topic that uses your search tag and click on the tag in the thread's lead, you'll get a list. The tags in-thread use Yuku's old search; that isn't busted. LaubeauLeap's search is partially busted. It'll find stuff posted before June 26. BPS's search is stuck back in April, even though its search pages tell you that it's updating properly.
