  1. Those two ditties are way over the condescension line, and they certainly don't strengthen one's position in a debate.
  2. I guess the ezBoard redirect is gone. Just so you know, the Fan Forum link in the brick red horizontal menu at the top will take you to the Yuku board link.
  3. The MLB system isn't great. Neither is the NFL's. They both suck in different ways. I think the key to the NFL system is revenue sharing. MLB has it, but it's not as extensive. One of the things that sucks in the NFL is the amount of player movement caused by the cap. My belief is that MLB would be better off it examined options outside of the idea of the cap. In addition to increased revenue sharing, draft compensation should be retooled. Instead of directly compensating the team losing a free agent, it would seem more appropriate to distribute the picks according to the free agent rankings. The fact that the Yankees signed both Sabathia and Teixeira pushed the Brewers' compensation pick down a round. Had picks been distributed according to player rankings, the Brewers would have gotten the second best compensation pick.
  4. I thought they got rid of the "own league priority", but maybe not. Yeah, I believe it's still "own league priority." It's the draft that changed. Waiver rules are totally confusing. Even Gord Ash screwed up a couple of years ago. The Brewers had to make room for a player on the 40-man when Gord thought he could be placed on a minor league roster. To "excuse" Gord, the situation wasn't all that clear. The commissioner's office needed to sort it out.
  5. Once again, Brian Anderson pronounced "groin" as "grow-in." He's a wonderful announcer; I just wish he wouldn't kill that word.
  6. Merged into Friday's in-game thread. Discussion starts here.
  7. I think it's likely that cocaine contributed to his commercials.
  8. Again, no problems, but for those of us who used Vista with no problems all these years, Win7 will seem more like a SP-level upgrade. That makes me wonder if the pricing shouldn't be closer to that of Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). Leopard (OS X 10.5) users will be able to buy it for $29 ($49 for a five-license family pack). One minor app that I'm looking forward to is Windows Disk Image Burner. Will this allow one to create disk images that can be stashed on a backup hard drive? That'd sure be nice for netbook users. Along the same line, will Windows 7 allow netbook users to connect to the DVD drive on another machine (wirelessly and via cable) for software installation?
  9. The first menu (to the left of "File") is called the Application Menu. It has the application's name. OS X's interface guidelines always put a program's preferences in that menu. Also, they're always called "Preferences" rather than one program having "Preferences," another having "Options," and another having "Settings." [it might be more accurate to say "most to all" as colby does; there could be a rogue program out there that screws this up.] When Firefox was first being developed, I remember the arguments on MozillaZine among Windows and Linux users about where the options/preferences belonged and what to call them. There was no argument among Mac users because the name and place was predetermined. By the way, if you're using Firefox in Linux, look for "Preferences" in the Edit menu. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Other handy items in the Application Menu will hide the current application or hide other applications. It's one way to maintain control over a cluttered desktop.
  10. I lurked on the brewers.com board for a year or more until one day, maybe 3 years ago, somebody there went off on Brian and told him he should stay at his uppity board or some such thing like that. Complaints about this board actually bring in membership. Last year, we got a membership application that said this: "I was a poster on the [name omitted] forum and learned about bf.net from a poster named [name omitted] always complaining about it. ;-)" I've always been a believer in every message board having its place in the grand scheme of things, but I've never been able to make it through reading more than a topic or two over at ESPN.
  11. All I really know at this point is that the majority of the stuff I've heard has been positive. It seems that 7 avoids one of the huge issues that Vista had by working within the amount of RAM installed on machines currently in use. One tidbit I've caught is that even if you're doing an upgrade, you're going to be required to do a clean install. That's more work up front, but I'd bet on that requirement saving trouble down the road. If the look and feel is more like OS X, that's good news. I think Vista is really cumbersome. When I bought a monitor a year and a half ago, the guys at Best Buy and Circuit City struggled even to change desktop pictures (I wanted to flip through some desktops to see how the monitors stacked up against each other.) The number of versions has me totally befuddled, though. I wouldn't know which one to buy. I'd love to hear some recommendations. Other questions: Does 7 effectively separate the administrator from the root? The lack of differentiation has always been a huge contributor to security breaches in Windows. Is it easy to operate under a limited user account? That's so much safer. It seems that previous versions of Windows have made that difficult and that some applications insist on being run as an admin.
  12. My best guess is that its release is pretty close. I think waiting for any possible effects of the trade deadline might have delayed it a bit.
  13. GAME05, would it be possible to cite the source of the quoted material in the lead with a link?
  14. Moved to the transactions forum: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=19964
  15. Do you have authorization for the avatar you use...... . .are you in danger of using someone else's work without paying for it? I don't think there's a very big chance of avatars on a message board causing much of a stir. Brewers employees are here regularly, and they've seen their logos pop up a lot in that context. Not only that, they operate their own message board with team logos appearing in member avatars. On the other hand, Brewerfan is very careful about copyrighted stuff appearing in the actual message board skin or on the main site. I think JimH5's advice in that regard is very relevant. Luckily, in the world of the web, replacing a graphic isn't a lot of work, and it doesn't disrupt content.
  16. Everybody has made all the points that need to be made... Yep. And a bunch of them cross the condescension line. It's time to close this topic.
  17. the HOF does not allow anyone on the permanent suspension list to be elected Right. What I was suggesting is that it might be possible (and perhaps appropriate) that the Hall change this standard.
  18. The Hall of Fame isn't under the commissioner's control. If they wanted to, they could decide to admit players who've been banned from the game. Maybe that's the more appropriate route to take rather than laying any decision on the commissioner.
  19. If there isn't a Mac version of OOTP, I'd guess that you'd need to install Windows on your Mac to run it. To do that, you need Boot Camp or a program like Parallels. Boot Camp is free, and you may already have it. It requires a separate bootup to run Windows. Parallels and a couple of similar products will run OS X and Windows simultaneously. Boot Camp offers better performance; the products that can be run simultaneously with OS X offer convenience. For a lot of stuff, you don't need the performance benefit that Boot Camp would offer. I couldn't tell you if OOTP would fall into that category or not.
  20. I've put a copy of the lead into that thread. Here's a direct link to it.
  21. Here's the missing link: Suppan to be checked by doctor
  22. I think we've reached a good time to close this thread. Few posts are adding anything new.
  23. Bats hibernate during the day because they are nocturnal creatures.... Yeah, whenever I've encountered one during the day, it's been pretty lethargic. "Timid" and even "disoriented" would be apt descriptors. At night, they're just the opposite: peppy and aware of their surroundings.
  24. It's time to take a moment to rein in some Fan Forum Etiquette. First, a post above opens with "Are you kidding?" and later says, "I'm assuming you watch baseball, right?" Statements like that cross the condescension line. Second, I've edited a couple of posts above for excessive punctuation (e.g. "?????????"). Please avoid doing that. Third, topper09er, I've edited several of your recent posts to shorten up the quoted material. Please take a look at this topic: Quoting messages: please be brief Thanks!
