  1. Damn, don't lose him Doug!!! Here' the thing though. LaPorta is already the best prospect they are being offered, but they are asking the Brewers for another one of their Double AA prospects to get it done?? So they threaten that if they don't get one they will trade him to Philly who can't offer anything close to LaPorta. It's a bluff because it makes no sense. You're asking the Brewers to up their offer(who has the best prospect on the table), but haven't "threatened" Philly to up their offer, yet can't offer anything close to LaPorta?? It makes no sense, and Shapiro is trying to out smart himself. Either way, I am different then most here as I want to be in the playoffs so bad this year I am willing to take the chance, if they want Escobar as well, do it and get it done.
  2. Interesting line from a poster on the Indians forum. This in reference to the Indians broadcaster Tom Hamilton: hamilton says he thinks the trade gets announced after the game tonight, which makes sense from the brewers' viewpoint.
  3. Haudricourt hasn't said anything about the deal being restructured. He has maintained that Escobar has never even been offered. Meanwhile, the national writers like Olney etc, have thought, or had thought that Escobar was also part of the deal which was never the case. So I am thinking(hoping) that what happened is, because the writers like Olney are hearing about the Brewers offer as Haudricourt has stated it that they think it's a restructuring of the deal because Escobar isn't included when in fact, he never was.
  4. ESPN is reporting the Brewers have restructured their offer and don't want to give up another prospect on LaPorta's level. Damn, I don't like the sound of that, but I trust Haudricourt on this one, and he hasn't mentioned anything about a restructuring of the deal. I think Olney is probably basing this off the fact that he thought originally that Escobar would be included, and that was never the case. I think he's probably hearing the offer Haudricourt has stated and is writing his article thinking that is a restructuring of the deal, when it never has been. Glad to hear the Dodgers aren't close to making a deal with them though. C'mon just get this done, so we can all celebrate!!
  5. Here's a thought I just had. The Indians are known to have scouted Taylor Green (and probably other prospects), wouldn't that indicate that they were leaning towards the Brewers offer?? We don't know for sure, but it hasn't been printed anywhere that they have scouted the Dodgers prospects have they?? Using what would seem to be common logic in this case, I can only conclude that they have focused on the Brewers as their likely trade partner.
  6. My apologies.....I had posted the link by cutting and pasting and it didn't work, so then I went back and thought I copied the link again, but instead the entire article was already cut in my browser for some reason. Trying to do things to fast I guess.
  7. Here is Haudricourt's latest: http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/05/brewers-waiting-for-indians-reply.aspx
  8. Thanks Peavey. That worries me a little about the Hu and Laroche being ranked so high.
  9. Splitter, I agree with you that the Brewers deal cannot be matched, but I just worry that Cleveland wants to let this play out, see if more teams get involved before the deadline, and some team (due to injury or whatever else), decides to really blow their socks off with an offer. It would be a calculated gamble on Shapiro's part, but perhaps one he is willing to take, otherwise I think this deal would be done already. It shouldn't, but the Dodgers really worry me. I just wish there wasn't anyone else involved, then I'd know for a fact he'd be a Brewer. I am so worried this thing will fall thru and I(as well as many others) will be incredibly disappointed. BTW, it's probably been mentioned in this thread somewhere, but where is LaPorta ranked overall as a prospect?? I am not talking about as a Brewer minor leaguer but as a minor leaguer overall?? Top 10??
  10. That wouldn't thrill me at all. If they were to go after any A's pitcher I'd want it to be Harden. Blanton's ERA this year is almost 6. Yuck!! To me it's Sabathia or busst. No other AVAILABLE Pitcher out there will do much more for them then what they already have in their rotation already, and certainly not the impact CC would have.
  11. Team Canada, it's not as bad being LaPorta as it is us posters at Brewerfan.net. In fact, it's not even close. You don't think our lives will be turned upside down by whatever happens?? I think you are sadly mistaken if you don't think so. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. This really angers me. I know it's the fans game etc etc, but this is the problem with having the fans vote, it becomes a popularity contest, rather then the best players being voted in as starters. Kosuke and Griffey as starters ahead of Braun?? Give me a break. Report: D-backs' Webb, Indians' Lee will start ASG (edit: clickified link --1992)
  13. Here is the most recent post from the link I posted.....This guy gets it: Let's revisit the Colon trade. At the time of the deal, Gammons called Lee and Phillips the 2 best players in the Eastern League (AA) while Sizemore was a promising "throw-in" but not exactly burning up A ball. If the Brewers are offering LaPorta and Green, I think that is not too far off what we got for Colon. LaPorta is probably the top power hitter in the Southern League and Green is probably one of the top prospects in the Florida State League. Add in Cain and this is a good deal that Shapiro should jump on.
  14. MoneyballMan, you sure are positive this is going to happen. I like the way you think, I just fear the longer this goes, the less likely it becomes. I want this to happen so bad, that I fear being let down. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  15. FWIW, here is a link to what I believe to be the best Indians message board. To their credit, most of them understand LaPorta is better then anyone else they could get from anyone else. There are some delusional posters, but a good majority seem to really understand what is going on. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=264&f=2046&t=2606205
  16. The longer this goes, the more worried I become. As a Brewer fan, I just want this done so bad, and yet there is still something nagging at me telling me I am going to be incredibly disappointed and it's going to fall thru. I sure hope that isn't the case, but as a Brewer fan, you have to almost count on a letdown of some sort. Please, PLEASE get this done soon....like today/tonight soon. Not sure how much longer I can wait without completely losing my mind.
  17. People have brought up ditching this deal and go for Maddux. My question is, why not do both, and strengthen yourself even more?? It wouldn't be for the same prospects so why not?? No harm in trading TGJ for Maddux as well as acquiring CC.
  18. Why not attempt to sign them both?? The money will be there. I do agree though that of the two, Benny is my priority.
  19. Why why why, do people keep saying this would only be a rental?? No one knows that the Brewers wouldn't make a reasonable attempt to sign CC. People need to get out of the Selig mindset. Antanassio is not Bud Selig. he has made it a point time after time to say that money is not an object and he is willing to pay whatever it is, to be competitive. There isn't a person on this board that knows for certain that CC would only be a rental, it's an assumption and nothing more. I do believe that Antanassio would have EVERY intention of making CC a fair and reasonable offer in the offseason. He's proven it before.
  20. Damn, I couldn't sleep anymore this morning because I was really thinking/hoping I'd wake up to breaking news. Now it sounds like this thing is kind of stalled. Not the news I wanted to hear. I hope Cleveland pulls the trigger on this ASAP so CC can make his next start in Milwaukee. From the Haudricourt article, it makes it sound like we won't hear anything this weekend which would kind of rule out CC's next start being here. I just hope DM doesn't lose this one. If Cleveland needs another low level prospect to get this done, I hope DM is more then willing to do it. Seems almost like there is no need to be anticipating something today, or even tomorrow. Don't know if I can wait that long though.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  21. Hmmmm anyone know why Chris Errecart was lifted after 1 AB for Huntsville tonight??
  22. I'm not afraid at all. I do whatever I have to do to get it done. You don't think that privately, the Cardinals and the Cubs would absolutely have the fear of god in them with the Brewers trotting out Sheets and Sabathia every five days?? Unlike a lot of you here, I truly believe the Brewers are the best team in this division, and getting CC will further strengthen that. As far as the prospects they have to give up, who cares?? Worry about next year, next year. You try to win now, you never know when you will have this good of a chance again. You go all in. If the Indians call me right now and say "Doug, we've considered your offer and it's a tremendous offer, but we really need Escobar in the deal, and should you include him, we can have CC on a plane to Milwaukee tomorrow". I simply reply with "we have ourselves a deal".
  23. D'oh!!! The Dodgers are also now in the CC mix. C'mon Doug do not let him get away. Give them an extra piece if you have to. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8313060/Dodgers-join-Brewers-in-pursuit-of-Sabathia
  24. Relax people, Hardy will NOT be included in the deal: http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/04/forget-the-hardy-rumor.aspx
  25. Would any of you feel better if Hardy or other prospects in addition to LaPorta were traded if at the PC to announce the trade, Melvin also announced they have signed CC to a 5 year deal?? Everyone just assumes they can't/won't be able to sign him. Says who?? People need to understand these are not Selig's Brewers anymore, these are Antanassio's and he has shown more then a willingness to spend whatever it takes to win. I have no doubts, that if he has given DM permission to pursue this trade for CC that he is at least going to make a competitive offer to him at season's end. That's the way that Mark A. does things.
