  1. While it is tempting to correct the person who keeps referring to the 7th inning stretch as something that happens after the 7th inning over and over again or the guy who is trying to impress his date, as others have said, no one wants to be shown up by a woman. I tend to be more annoyed by the people who want me to take their picture in the top of the ninth with runners on and the closer trying to end it. I generally don't mind if someone weighs on my conversation, but those who do, proceed with caution! I got to take my little brother to a game at Fenway last year and he was making fun of the way I was scoring the game. The guy in front of us overheard us bickering about the proper way to do it and turned around and informed my brother "he was lucky his girl liked baseball." Pretty mortifying for a teenager. I had to stand at least two feet away at all times for the rest of his trip.
  2. Enjoy our fair city! The weather looks to be gorgeous over the next few days!
  3. I think part of it is looking at the game differently from a manager's perspective -- he was by all accounts a very good one, and there were rumors that he was perhaps being groomed to succeed Terry Francona in a few years. But this is the first time in a long time where he's had to play hungry. When Kapler was in Boston, he knew he wasn't playing over Ramirez, Damon, or Nixon. He was absolutely only going to be a backup and he was okay with that. Now he's fighting with Gross and TGJ and he can't be okay with that. I would guess the mental approach might be different. He has something to prove again. The Achilles injury he suffered was pretty brutal as well, and when he came back from it he just wasn't the same. The time off has really afforded that the time to heal. EDIT: And I really think his follow-through on his swing is different. I'm trying to find video for comparison.
  4. We were supposed to go to Disneyland once my brother could walk. He's 18 now. Currently I am bugged by the dude who is too busy to hang out but is finding an inordinate amount of time to email me. Who does that.
  5. I will third the job hunting sucks sentiment. I had an interview a month ago for my dream job and I thought it went very well all around. I understand that it's time-consuming, but once you bring people in for a second round of interviews and they follow up, the polite thing to do is let them know when a decision has been made. And today I got a call about another job I interviewed for last week. My phone interview was Monday; they called back the very next day and asked me to come into the office later in the week. So they called and I got all excited but it was just to say they enjoyed meeting me but will bringing more people in. Sigh. If I can't get hired to do the exact same thing I'm doing now....I know it shouldn't be an ego blow but it's hard not to take it that way.
  6. The thing he does with his knees is less exaggerated now, but he used to look like he was working a ThighMaster at the the plate.
  7. Yeah, that didn't need to get that interesting. Phew.
  8. Jason Kendall: who is man enough to step to this!
  9. I apparently am on a mission to break every glass in my apartment. My roommate is going to return from vacation and there will be nothing left. Um, by the way, anyone know where to find greenish dimpled Coke glasses?
  10. I will be watching trashy television and having a dance party using a wooden spoon as a microphone. It's going to be a big night.
  11. I'm another curvy female who has found luck with kid's XLs. I think they are actually longer than some women's apparel. The nice thing about about the bf.net cafepress store is that it provides the length of the shirts, so your wife can compare a shirt she likes to one she already has.
  12. If getting chills in the first inning of a game in April makes me lame, I'm totally okay with that.
  13. Mine is "Lonesome Blues" by Shooter Jennings, which sort of makes me sound like a sadder person than I actually am
  14. While it was nice for them to wait till I got home to finish the game, I would have been happy catching the highlights. Heh. I'm so glad TGJ had such a big game!
  15. I love Quaker Oat Squares. Trader Joe's has a knock off that's pretty cheap for a huge box. I only eat them dry.
  16. The cable gods do not believe in Opening Day in March either. I think MLB has this all wrong. The WBC basically accomplishes the same thing without forcing anyone to participate. A guy like Coco Crisp who is looking for a starting job with another team and has had an injury this spring isn't helped by a 19 hour flight. And I understand that having them play exhibition games is supposed to help the players adjust better, but that's just weird to follow up Opening Day with that. And it kind of shortchanges current baseball fans who wanted to see the first game of the season in order to bring new ones.
  17. Part of me hopes this is just being extra-careful about any sort of twinge due to it being spring training, given how much I'd like to see Capuano be successful, but part of me sort of hopes this is something that's been going on that just came to a head today in order to at least partially explain his ineffectiveness. I'm really glad no pitching has been traded yet -- these things just seem to happen when a team starts out thinking they can spare the depth.
  18. Love ruining senior night once again! I will say, on a much more serious note, it was extremely classy of the Duke fans to sport the Carolina blue ribbons.
  19. Heh, now I'm hoping I didn't jinx them with that. Apparently the Mannings are at the game, and really, no one needs to see that juxtaposed with Krzyzewski's rat face. But I am biased. The D has impressed me so far.
  20. Anyone watching the rematch?
  21. 1. Shooter Jennings - "4th of July" 2. Steely Dan - "Reelin' in the Years" 3. Waylon Jennings - "Satin Sheets" 4. Knights Bridge - "I'm Easy" 5. Stone Temple Pilots - "Big Bang Baby" 6. KISS - "I Just Wanna" 7. KISS - "Christine Sixteen" 8. Daughtry - "There and Back Again" 9. Loggins and Messina - "Danny's Song" 10. Poison - "Strange" 11. 22. "Wish You Were Here" makes me cry every time I hear it, regardless of my state of mind at the time. The past few days I've been binging on "Broken Hearted People" by Guy Clark, who I'm just starting to get into. Now broken hearted people always seem to drink and tryin' to drown those sorrows ain't as easy as you think But living with a liar is a hard old way to go Laughin' just to keep from crying ain't no way to grow old So take me to a barroom driver set me on a stool If I can't be her man, I'm damned if I'll be her fool They say that whiskey ain't the best way, but then I ain't too smart to think I just found out she was lyin' from the start So if this is nothing but a bad joke lookin' for a laugh hold on to your lampshade darlin' cause I'm looking for a hat Can you take me to a barroom driver set me on a stool If I can't be her man, I'm damned if I'll be her fool So get this taxi movin' cause I got no time to lose there's no time to be choosy, any old bar will do cause I'm lookin' to get silly and I'm lookin' to get loose and if that don't get it done darlin', I'll come looking for you Take me to a barroom driver set me on a stool If I can't be her man, I'm damned if I'll be her fool I've also been obsessed with "'Til I Gain Control Again." Rodney Crowell wrote it, but tons of country singers have recorded it, from Willie to Waylon to Emmylou. Just like the sun over the mountaintop You know I'll always come again You know I love to spend my morningtime Like sunlight dancing on your skin I've never gone so wrong As for telling lies to you What you see is what I've been There is nothing I could hide from you You see me better than I can Out on the road that lies before me now There are some turns where I will spin I only hope that you can hold me now 'Til I can gain control again And like a lighthouse you must stand alone Landmark the sailor's journey's end No matter what sea I've been sailing on I'll always pass this way again Out on the road that lies before me now There are some turns where I will spin I only hope that you can hold me now Til I can gain control again
  23. The one time I played Rock Band, that song came up an awful lot. Then the Weezer offenders had the nerve to harsh on us playing the Jovi more than once. I am currently bugged by the fact that Cooking Light recipe developers clearly have no idea how big a dutch oven is.
  24. This was one of my favorite storylines of the playoffs, and it's great to see it getting some more play. I wasn't at the game, but I remember shouting, "IN PLAY RUN-SCORING PLAY!!!" while watching it on Gameday. Heh. Hopefully we'll have the chance to see a lot more of these hits from Little T.
