  1. My photographer friend came with me to the game on Sunday. She just put the photos she took on Flickr -- lots of Brewers stuff and cool shots that I thought some of y'all might want to see.
  2. It's when there's back to back vowels that produce the extra r. Mark Loretter is a second baseman. Mark Loretta plays second base, however. The hardcore-ness of Fenway depends on where you sit. I love sitting in the cheap seats because even though you are more apt to get stuck with more drunken jerks, you also get people who care more. I've seen very exciting games in better seats where people leave early and don't care. The johnny come latelys are taking over, unfortunately. You'll see a lot of the standing and cheering in tighter games or come from behind games, but not usually where there's a lead. And given that the women I see here on a daily basis pretty much constantly give me an inferiority complex, remind me never to visit where LouisEly lives!
  3. What about Kapler as player/manager?
  4. Mark Grace was arguing this during the Diamondbacks broadcast a few days ago, saying it was completely unfair to NL teams because they don't build their roster around the DH and then it's completely unfair to AL teams when they're the away team because their pitchers haven't taken batting practice at all or thought about it all year. I guess I feel like that's the point -- it's fair because eventually each side is at a disadvantage. That doesn't help for this series, but when Toronto and Baltimore come to town, they'll have to redo their approach as well.
  5. I can't remember the last time I went to Fenway Park and saw so many fans of the opposing team. The turnout is awesome. I just left for a run about an hour ago and it was completely cloudy and pretty damp. Now I'm looking out at a beautiful blue sky and sunshine -- a perfect day for baseball. Watching the weather forecast now and it looks the evening showers are supposed to mainly north of Boston, so hopefully we'll all stay dry and avoid delays.
  6. I can do weather updates. The report I read has clouds Friday and Sunday and showers on Saturday, but at least the 4pm start gives a lot of time for the game to get played. However, the weather reports have been pretty inaccurate the past couple weeks, so we could be looking at sunshine. I'm up for pre-gaming on Friday and post-gaming Saturday. To get to Crossroads, if you're coming from inbound Boston, get off at the Hynes stop, turn right, cross Marlborough, then turn left onto Beacon. Here's a map from the park. Beacon splits with Brookline Ave. Oh, and public service announcement: if you're taking public transit, load up your Charlie ticket the first time you get it. If you use cash, use exact cash, unless you like Sacajawea dollars. The last thing you're going to want to do is stand in the mess at Kenmore Square trying to buy your fare back after the game.
  7. I will be in the upper bleachers for all 3 games. I made a thread in off-topic about getting together for beers pre- or post-game during the series if anyone is interested.
  8. Are you in Wisconsin? I'm in publishing and one of our main vendors for rebind textbooks is there.
  9. I also have the school dream. And I'll have another variation of it, though less so these days. It's either I've been cast in a play (I used to be an actress) and then I miss rehearsals so I haven't memorized my lines and it's opening night or after a play is over, we're all brought together to do one more performance and we're supposed to remember our lines from months ago.
  10. Oh good grief, me too. It is disturbing how much people here hate the guy -- yes, he blew a few games but the Sox still won the division and World Series. Get over it. I hope he finds a good sports psychologist to work with and can turn it around. It's sad that it's come to this, but I do respect that he's acknowledged it.
  11. <-- Manufacturing coordinator for a textbook publisher for 8 more days. <-- Once those 8 days are up, gift processor for the fundraising/development office of a university
  12. New job new job new job new job! I got the call today!
  13. Playing against the Monster in left field is always tricky in Fenway, so I wouldn't mind seeing Kapler, who's done it before, start in left while Braun DH's at least once in that series.
  14. I just suggested Saturday post-game for the heck of it -- I figured people who were in the process of making their plans might be more apt to come if it had a date attached. So I'm up for whatever works for y'all. If more people want to do it pre-game, that's fine by me. Whatever works! Heck, maybe pre-game and post-game. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. In high school, I did not have a car, but my dad sometimes let me drive his 95 Geo Tracker to school. Then right before I left for college, my grandmother got a new car and gave me her 1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale. What a boat. We went through some crazy times together -- the $300 mailbox we knocked over, the time the brakes failed while I was on the road -- and finally when we failed inspection, I bought the Tracker from my dad.
  16. Yikes. That is a long time. I fell down yesterday. Except I didn't just fall -- I wiped the heck out. My left knee connected right against the corner of the curb and the pain was so bad I couldn't even look at it. My friend had to roll up my pant leg to check out the damage for me. Of course this happened in front of three guys hanging out on their porch. Of course I was wearing jeans that were at least a size too big because it's the weekend, darnit, and of course they might have fallen down a little. When one of the guys and my friend helped me up, I looked down and realized I was bleeding profusely from the toe. I don't handle pain well. It makes me woozy. We barely made it back to my friends place without me passing out. Who would have thought a skinned toe would hurt more than concrete on a kneecap? This would just be another incident for Accident-Prone Amy except I have no idea how long it's going to be before I can run again and having my training schedule thrown off sucks, and I have 30 minutes between two job interviews tomorrow and now will have to pay for cabs. And cabs are not cheap. (But the two interviews are not bugging me in the slightest.)
  17. The series at Fenway is just about 3 weeks away and when tickets went on sale, it seemed like a lot of people were going. So I was thinking we should get together after Saturday's game (4pm start) for some beer and baseball talk at Crossroads Pub. It's close enough to the park that you can walk there after but far enough away that there won't be a line to get in. A few of my non-Brewer fan (but supportive of our cause) friends are up for this as well. So, who's in?
  18. I think Kendall's is my favorite. His batting stance is slightly awkward anyway; adding a mustache to that is just pure greatness. It's something little, but it makes the team even more fun to watch. I love chemistry things like that.
  19. There is nothing more disconcerting in Gameday than a big black box pitching for your team.
  20. Last year was pretty gross. This year, my sunburn is wicked and uneven, due to standing sideways to look for people I know. I wonder if local race registration spikes after major marathons. Oh sure, that looks fun...
  21. I signed up to run my first 5K today. If you put it on the internet, then you can't take it back.
  22. Is slowing down an option? We all work at different rates, but it seems pretty normal that you don't love her son yet after 8 months, especially since this is your first serious relationship. That's a lot to sort through at once. And for a young kid whose dad is also still present, it's probably pretty confusing to him. I don't know how often y'all are making plans for the 3 of you, but if you started it as once a month or every two weeks, with an activity with a certain time limit, it could be good for you both. It seems like you and this woman have something really special that can be worked out if you balance couple time with family time.
  23. Maybe it's just precautionary, given the lead in the game.... Something he could pitch through in September but they'll be careful with in April? Yeah, I got nothing.
