  1. Yuku for eating this post because I wasn't logged in... Albert Pujols - for whining about not winning the MVP the year he got a ring and for dissing Tom Glavine. Ryan Ludwick - because when people come out of nowhere and kill your team, they are annoying. Rick Ankiel - when I need a heartwarming comeback, I'll go to Josh Hamilton, thanks AJ Pierzynski - the guy is cursed with jerk face. He could be a very nice guy (which I hear he isn't) but he has the face of a jerk and is therefore cursed. Joba Chamberlain - another case of jerkface and for the Joba Rules, because the Yankees did not invent being careful with young pitchers Evan Longoria - not his fault, but it annoys me that a guy is an All-Star before he's done being a rookie Scott Rolen - from his rookie year, this guy has bugged me. And I was like 12. David Eckstein - his general presence Ted Lilly - because when he's playing a team you hate, he lasts 3 innings and when he's playing your team, he turns into Cy Young Craig Counsell - his batting stance makes me physically uncomfortable. Troy Tulowitzki - yet another case of jerk face and also for making me have to explain why Braun is better to people who do not even watch the NL approximately 500 times last year Nick Swisher - once more, he has jerk face and also one of the most elaborate throwing it up to the Big Baby Jesus moves I've seen a guy do for a single.* Regarding Hunter Pence: I couldn't stand him for most of last year but he's totally grown on me. Not in the way that I want him to succeed but he is just one goofy looking goober and it makes me giggle every time. *which he apparently has an excellent and sweet reason for doing and now I pretty much feel like a jerk.
  2. Long car trips have taught me that the two largest states in the union are Georgia and Connecticut. They might not look like much on maps, but the maps are lying. Also, my brother leaves for college tomorrow. He's 750 miles away and we haven't lived in the same house for anything longer than a summer, if that, since he was 12 years old. Yet I'm kind of teary about it.
  3. Perhaps I should consider moving more seriously...
  4. There are some things about city living that I will never get. Standing in line for a half hour for the privilege of paying for $13 cocktails is one of those things.
  5. 13) When you're single, you don't have to sit around waiting for a call/email/text. (Though probably that is true of being in a relationship because you're less insecure about where things are. Maybe it's just no man's land that freaking sucks so bad.) Seriously, I hate waiting on people, especially people who I am trying to date and therefore can't really demonstrate the full extent of my impatience to yet. (No, I'm not crazy, I just think that it doesn't take a day to answer an email. And I like parentheses.)
  6. I hope for two things: 1) a win tonight 2) video footage of Brewers players singing along to the Jovi
  7. In my heart, he's a Brewers fan. The one where he is talking about his favorite starting pitcher getting lit up? I like to think it's that start earlier in the season where Benny was absolutely cruising and lost it. I love the High Life dude. Probably more than I should.
  8. I can't run anymore. End of June, I was doing 3 miles easy. This morning I couldn't even run one. What's the opposite of endorphins?
  9. I'm not sure about whether they'd play the game in LA but if the Brewers and Cubs ended up tied for first, the winner of the division would be determined by whoever won the season series.
  10. Well, on Monday night, Pujols ran toward home with his arms raised high in the air looking like a guy who was plating the winning run in October -- and it was the first inning. Granted, as someone who cannot stand Pujols, stuff like that might rub me the wrong way more than it should, but that's at least as obnoxious as admiring a game-changing home run in my book.
  11. The feeling that they aren't ever quite out of it is a dangerous and heady one indeed....holy wow.
  12. http://i35.tinypic.com/iwjdsl.jpg Getting swept into last place in Boston...
  13. Speaking of the ESPYs... I still do not understand how Eli broke that freaking tackle. How? How? HOW? When will I unsee it?
  14. So, we can't watch baseball because of a fake awards show? Awesome.
  15. Aw, I love Bojangles. It saved my life once. If y'all have never had breakfast at a Chik Fil A, you have to try it. Chicken biscuits are sooo good.
  16. These are the people who are always entering and exiting through the wrong door, creating a door traffic jam while leaving the other door on their proper side unopened.
  17. Grace and Sutton were having a field day with this -- going on about children coming from miles around to look at the Justin Duchscherer Statue. It was pretty amusing. The thing is, I had no idea that the DH was such a radical, 21st century invention. Thanks, Hank! There are a number of reasons that interleague play needs to be tweaked but this isn't one of them. I say this as a fan of an AL team as well as the Brewers. AL pitchers at one point in their lives had to hit and run the bases. This isn't new.
  18. I swear they only play the Miller commercial that begins with "The Brewers...the team that loves winning" after really rotten innings.
  19. When it comes to laundry, the people in my building are neanderthals. I recently spent 7 hours on a Saturday trying to laundry because some jerk felt it was necessary to do 6 tiny loads in a row when he knew I was waiting. There's one washer and dryer for around 12 apartments. Just tonight, when I put my wash in, there was 20 minutes left on the dryer. When my clothes were done, the clothes were still in the dryer (complete for about 20 minutes). So I moved them and left them in plain sight on the counter. I heard someone coming downstairs while I was switching them out. I heard someone go back up the steps as soon as I started the dryer. When I got back to my apartment, someone was going downstairs again. I decided not to be paranoid and waited the hour for my clothes to dry. Mistake. The door to the dryer was open, so my clothes were still wet and $1.25 had been wasted. Angry, I put more quarters in. Then I decided to leave a note explaining that if you open the door during the cycle, it wastes people's time and money. When I went to leave the note, I found the dryer open AGAIN. Who does this? It's not like I live with a bunch of college kids. I'm the youngest person in my building. The last thing I want to do is police my load of clothes.
  20. The Sox and Rays have been testy with each other going back for awhile now, though. Pedroia got hit the first inning, which might have added to Crisp's testiness. He doesn't come off looking good at all here though, after going on and on last night about how if they wanted to retaliate, they should hit him and not a teammate, not being able to take it when it happened, and then grinning his way through the fight and his postgame comments. I like a good basebrawl, but given that team is without Ortiz and Ramirez is DHing because of his hamstrings, leaving the outfield configuration already a little wacky, it's a pretty selfish decision to make. Ellsbury going down in the 4th only made it worse.
  21. I don't know enough about midwestern schools to quantify those in particular, but I will tell you at least for the first couple jobs out of college, your school can definitely open doors. But it all depends on what you want to do. One school might have a better overall reputation but another school might be the place to be for a specific field. And if you really want to play baseball, the prestige of the school won't matter as much as where you can actually play. As I said earlier in this thread, this is the time to be going to camps and showcases and making contacts at colleges and universities. Also, you mention scholarships and that you think you should be getting a decent amount of money. I hope this means you're applying to a bunch of things and not that you have excellent grades and credentials, and therefore you think you'll be getting something. If it's the latter, you likely won't, especially if you go to a larger school. I was an excellent student, 10th in my class, had the awards, activities, jobs, etc -- I got nothing because I only applied for one or two scholarships and I went to a large, public school. It's the big fish in the small pond versus the small fish in the big pond thing.
  22. Have you played around with the exemption field? I was fairly certain on my number of exemptions yet kept getting no info and my paper check due next week and therefore should have been scheduled. I randomly tried it with 1 exemption and found that they have me on file and my payment is allegedly coming next week. (I'll believe when the check is in my hot little hand but feel a little better for now.)
  23. On this note, people who plod along smack in the middle of the sidewalk with their headphones on, oblivious to others. You can never count on them to hear an "excuse me" or "on your left." Or couples who can't possibly stand single file for a second. I'll run into you. I will. And I won't feel bad about it.
  24. My brother will be playing D-II baseball next year and he went to a bunch of showcases all over the state. That allowed him to meet a lot of coaches and set up a rapport with people interested in him and his progress.
  25. At my old job, I cannot even tell you how many times a week I'd get emails and letters for "Ami." My name is only 3 letters. And it is the conventional spelling. The real kicker is when I'd email someone and sign it "Thanks! Amy" and get a reply that said "Hi Ami."
