  1. Cappy, this is kind of weird, but you're the reason I became a Brewers fan. As a college student in North Carolina (the other end of Tobacco Road) with a severe baseball addiction, I had the Extra Innings package and started watching your starts in 2005 after you saved my fantasy baseball team. It didn't take me long to fall in love with the team, despite having never been to Wisconsin. Best of luck for the next stage of your career, and thanks for all the memories -- and for making me a Brewers fan.
  2. I know I'm sentimental, but for all Smoltz and Glavine did for Atlanta, it would have been nice for them both to get more graceful exits there (even if Glavine went to the Mets). Watching Smoltz in the dugout after the debacle on Thursday was just heartwrenching. It's always hard to watch the end for a great player, but it's even harder when it's one the guys you remember from those first couple seasons you fell in love with baseball.
  3. If you want a cool Irish bar the locals go to, try Crossroads near Fenway. Beerworks is good too, with a bunch of microbrews, and closer to Fenway Park. For amazing views of the city, try drinks at Top of the Hub at the Prudential Center. The food is decent, but pretty expensive for what it is, so I'd advise sticking to drinks. Neptune Oyster Bar allegedly has great lobster rolls (hot or cold!). If you have access to a car and want a seafood shack type experience, try Belle Isle. I haven't gone on a Charles Riverboat cruise yet, but they look really fun and lower-key than the duck tour, though I've heard the duck tour is a lot of fun as well. If you want, I can get more specific depending on where you are staying. Have fun!!
  4. This, and also yoga. It's really incredible how one week something will seem impossible and two weeks later, there you are, doing it.
  5. I agree too. Even being from the south, the land of hospitality, I can say that Milwaukee is one of the friendliest places I've been as well.
  6. Finding the DII College World Series free stream on the internets and getting to watch my brother's team!
  7. I love this show. Watching them test the weapons is the best part. Probably it is wrong to enjoy watching the fake jawbones become unhinged, but it's also awesome. The trash talk between the two sides really makes the show.
  8. Just wanted to say that we had a blast in Milwaukee. We totally lucked out on weather. Miller Park is absolutely gorgeous. I'll probably be kicked out of Fenway for saying this next time, but the food was better and cheaper. We walked around the Third Ward on Saturday afternoon, saw the festival grounds and walked up around the lake and photographed the art museum. After the game Saturday, we stopped at 4th Base for a beer. Sunday we got to tailgate, thanks to some very kind BF.netters. All in all it was a successful trip -- we each got to see our team win, I got to see Bernie slide, and we both fell in love with the city.
  9. Awesome! We'll bring some beer! A word of warning, my friend is from Arizona, but she's a Brewer sympathizer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif As far as trying a brat in the park - believe me, my friend and I are ready to try the many culinary delights available in Miller Park. Fried cheese curds!
  10. Thanks for the info, y'all. I was definitely hoping that if we picked up some beers on Saturday or Sunday and roamed the parking lot, we could soak up some of the tailgating atmosphere. We're sitting in 110 on Saturday and 409 on Sunday (could not miss getting a bobblehead!). Hope to see some of you around!
  11. Hello! My friend and I are coming to Milwaukee for a quick weekend trip on May 2 and 3. Having never been to Milwaukee, we'd love some recommendations for things to do, especially things that are close (within a mile or two) to the ballpark, as we aren't renting a car. And if any of y'all want to grab a beer in that brief time period, we'd like that too! Also, could anyone weigh in on how strict Miller Park is on bags? We saw the measurements for bags on the site and my friend is a little concerned that our backpacks might be a little larger than 16x16x8. Thanks!
  12. Aw. Well, I'm putting on my Carolina alum glasses and rooting hard for Tyler Hansbrough and Danny Green and all the other other seniors to get their championship. So nervous!
  13. I vote for mutton chops. Then again, I'm the girlfriend of a man who has not shaved since early December...and won't till May. My judgment might be clouded.
  14. I wonder if I can convince my roommate to push our Milwaukee vacation back a day in honor of Ryan Braun Bobble Head day...
  15. My boyfriend and I went to New York a few weeks ago and stayed in a hotel with an open shower. While it was much nicer than the one pictured, intended to add a level of uniqueness to the experience, I never realized how important shower curtains were in terms of staying warm until using that shower. It was definitely interesting.
  16. My best friend got a NY Giants player tee with "Rest of Team" as the player on the back. It's been a long standing inside joke that Rest of Team is our favorite player. My sister got a gift card to a gourmet food/cooking store that also does classes and a first edition Thomas Hardy book (sadly, not mint condition). I had no idea what to get my brother so rather than attempt something, I gave him a pretend gift card redeemable for a shopping trip with me since he likes spending other people's money. We ended up ordering him a pair of Wallabees online. (On sale at DSW with free shipping if y'all are interested!) For our parents, my brother and sister and I went in on a 3 course dinner at what is supposed to be an excellent restaurant but something they'd never actually treat themselves to. The restaurant will just charge my card after the meal and so Mom and Dad don't have to worry about going over a gift card amount. My boyfriend posed the most trouble... I have no idea when he'll actually be in town again but when he is, he's getting a book about the town and gown architecture of Chapel Hill since he's into architecture and that's where I went to school. And he will also get three flavors of North Carolina peanuts.
  17. I once read that you can take an imprint of a ring she already has in a bar of soap and bring that to the jeweler if you want to be stealthy about getting her size. Though tracing the inside on a sheet of paper makes as much sense and you wouldn't have to try to get soap off the ring. Or borrowing it for an afternoon if she won't miss it. Anyhow, every woman's opinion varies on this matter of course, but if my soon-to-be fiance was finishing up school and contemplating proposing to me at the same time, I'd much prefer a ring on the inexpensive side -- still nice, but something that wouldn't cause additional stress to student loans and gaining employment. Granted, there are plenty of perfectly wonderful women who love flashier jewelry, but there's always the possibility of an upgrade once you both are settled. Good luck!
  18. It was 60 degrees in Boston on Monday. I am flying home to North Carolina on Saturday morning, so naturally the first major snowstorm of the season is scheduled to hit tomorrow, with more snow Saturday morning. They are treating this like End Times snow. Schools are already closing. I thought they could handle this crap here. (Please excuse my bad attitude. I am a very nervous flier and haven't recovered from what 6 inches of snow did to my flight home for Christmas last year.)
  19. This is excellent news. Hopefully we'll be watching him earn a number of those incentives this summer. He really deserves another shot, and I'm glad it will be with the Brewers.
  20. Dual fabric sheets. One side cotton, the other side flannel so if your bed partner prefers a fabric you hate, you both can still get a good night's sleep.
  21. I chose it. In 2005, I drafted Capuano for my fantasy team. He did well for me, and since I had Extra Innings anyway, I started tuning into the games. I just found the team interesting and very easy to root for. What I had intended to be something to watch when the Sox weren't on ended up being a team I was soon living and dying with. Or, to quote that old country song, I fooled around and fell in love. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. Imagine at one point in your life, you had this friend who was crazy and hilarious and you guys had amazing times together. It was a brief friendship, but it was defining. And then time got in the way and you two drifted apart and years passed. You look back fondly on this friend and the memories always make you feel happy -- there are no regrets, and you resigned yourself to just remembering your good times long ago. And then, someone tells you your friend is in town. You can see them again after years and years. You should be thrilled, right? But the thing is, what if this person doesn't live up to the memories you have? What if they've changed? What if this new version of them tarnishes the memories you've carried over the years? This is how I feel about Chinese Democracy.
  23. As a public service, I will now tell you all how to not break bad news to your grown children who live hundreds of miles away: (phone rings) Me: Hello? Dad: Hi, Amy. What are you doing? Me: I'm out shopping. Dad: What are you shopping for? Me: Clothes. Dad: Where are you now? Me: I'm in the store, Dad. Dad: Which store? Me: Just a store. Dad: I didn't know it was a secret. Me: H&M, Dad. I know you don't have those down there so I didn't think it would mean anything. Dad: Well, I'm calling to tell you we're getting ready to leave for Charlotte. Granddaddy had a mini stroke. (He should be fine. He drove himself to the hospital. But I hate the lulling me into the standard shooting the breeze conversation, then dropping the bomb. Even if it is a small stroke, it's still major news.)
