  1. If Black could play defense at the moment or was at AAA already posting those numbers it would be different. Another month or so is about right to see if there is some improvement. Not too early to start exploring trade options though.
  2. Rodgers the GM certainly would make one long for the days of good ol' Sal Bando...
  3. None of those is super exciting, Cron would be great but it is hard not to picture him as a bit of Coors mirage waiting to happen. But a defensive upgrade at first who hits lefties well would be a great addition if it existed.
  4. Doesn't that make Black's line so far this season even more impressive?
  5. I kind of like what they did, because frankly the 20 million plus the rest of the contract money sure looks like maybe I just retire with my health mostly intact money? Everyone wants to be the guy obviously, but this drops that guaranteed money quite a bit and shifts that incentive.
  6. I was thinking of it in terms of potential, but the huge power speed numbers in the lower body are so big, that he almost has to have more potential to develop upper body burst as well. Or possibly the tests themselves were somehow under measuring his upper body. Which would be weird, but overall all signs point to there being more capability.
  7. Looking ahead to mid May and the next Cardinals series, they have a middle of the road schedule coming up. They are already 10 back of the Pirates if they don't pick it up we could be looking at a chance in mid-May to just bury them in the standings, with the more balanced schedule and fewer head to head games there are less chances to get hot later and quickly make up ground.
  8. The current profile is much better offensively. That said his walk rate will likely go down some, but probably remain notably higher. He is still hitting for a healthy amount of power, so it's not like he is suddenly going to get challenged more. It also doesn't seem like nearly as extreme as some of Yelich's changes that ended up really messing him up from his MVP years.
  9. In Wisconsin you only need basic liability coverage, No fault is an extra mandatory coverage that covers your medical expenses regardless of who causes the accident. So if you are a good driver it just adds to your cost.
  10. Is Montana a No fault state? My car Insurance tripled when I moved to MN years ago because of that reason.
  11. 65% is low enough of a threshold were there is a highly unusual chance that we earn the 1st round pick, and it ends up being fairly high. If they are slow to gel on offense maybe they are only 7-5 after 12 games followed by an injury for example. But in the realm of reasonable expectations it's a solid return and clearing the cap and being done with it is nice this year.
  12. Soft schedule, and such means 79 games sounds about right at the moment. It is a long season, but when it comes to making it to .500 it doesn't take a super long time before those locked in wins make it a lot easier to get to .500. The other item is a strong start does might not make it more likely for the Pirates to be big buyers at the deadline, but it almost certainly keeps them away from being sellers.
  13. Maybe he made a retirement A-Z movie marathon list, I might make a video game one.
  14. Surprised Brock hasn't chimed in to mention the Saint Paul Saints have been a AAA team for a couple of years now.
  15. I could see them stealing a pitcher from Nashville for a day, before grabbing the player they want. The bullpen hasn't been badly overworked or anything, but I could see that as an option.
  16. Speaking of the schedule, the change to playing everyone is really jarring after all these years. I went looking for the stretch when we could try and beat up on the Central teams, and it's just not there. September is the only month we have more than 2 full series against team in the Central. It's just weird.
  17. When mid-range players drop off they become replacement level pretty fast. The top level players can fall off and still give you 3-4 WAR seasons, which might not be great but still contributes positively to the team.
  18. Having gone back out into the market recently after 15 years in one place, not a ton of fun even though I had in demand skills, and in a very good market. I definitely observed a lot of it's not what you know, but who you know. One position I was told it was basically a toss up between me and another candidate. I'm guessing while both of us had experience the other candidate probably had less, so there was cost savings. I had another interview that seemed positive, but no follow-up. A third where they let me know they chose another candidate. After getting job#4 I was able to determine that I was replacing the person who got job #3 because their spouse also worked there. This was actually a good thing for both of us because we each end up cutting 20+ minutes off commute times. I was also able to figure out at job #4 that my wife was not hired previously because they had found a younger/ cheaper candidate who also had family working there.
  19. Bryce Wilson currently leading the team in saves, and it's a good thing.
  20. That's getting into territory where you would seriously consider DHing your position player...
  21. The Cards get Arizona at home next followed by their own big 10 game West coast trip.
  22. Especially in this thread it is easy to forget a variety of concerns about not chasing the highest yields, but 6 month CDs are getting close to 5% now, and even normal money markets are getting close to 2% if you think you'll need the cash sooner. It is surprising they wouldn't have caught on to the impact of rates when you have good sized balances.
  23. Best run differential in the league, Pirates though do have a bit of smoke and mirrors look with a -2 run differential at the moment.
  24. What would it cost to just have Wolf make the 3rd round pick?
