  1. It really looked like 50 was slow to react into coverage on that punt, he was right there and should have been able to make that a tough throw for the punter.
  2. I'm actually rooting against Disney, if they kill Netflix they would be very monopolistic or possibly worse having to shell out $5 for every channel I might want to randomly watch here or there.
  3. Certainly if he brings home a ring those 4 appearances will be oft remembered more so than anything else I'd wager.
  4. Different comment, but the Twins are sitting at 98 wins. I wonder what kind of odds I could have gotten in March on them hitting 100? Not that I had any idea of course, but weak division or not that is still a big number.
  5. Could we get Braun and Thames Virtual reality style glasses to wear that made them think they were always playing in Cincy?
  6. Not in Minneosta you get Fox Sports North. I almost had, but my credit card still has a MN zip and that over rode anything else I provided. On the other hand with Sling at least I have discovered that there blackouts are very pre-programmed, so if the game runs over at all I can catch the end.
  7. Can we get a sanity check on the AAA stats comments. Given the league wide trend down there this year folks have suggested discounting (but not disregarding) AAA number more than usual. Based just on how many of our call-ups have done it looks like you can crudely take .200 OPS points off the top, which is a ton. In Grisham's case though that still leaves his numbers looking well above average because while other guys have put up good looking numbers he was putting up Bondsian type numbers. None of which is to say that is his true talent level, but in the same way Hiura was killing the league and has produced very well it's fair to think Grisham could produce at least league average for a LF with room for some definite helium there.
  8. There's no way Grisham ends up in my '90 Diamond Kings collection though.
  9. If those McCalvy tweets are accurate that is a lot of reason for encouragement. With just over a year to go on the contract before the buyout Braun can still be useful in an intentional part time role (instead of the years of injury created part time play). There is a lot to be said for going out gracefully. He outlasted Hart, Hardy, and Fielder.
  10. Well graduating another top prospect is one way to justify that mid season farm ranking.
  11. I think it is fair to say that a lot went right last year with the pitching, this year we've had worse luck then average. Even offensively Hiura is really the only over achiever and there are multiple candidates for underachievement. And we are still playing authentically competitive ball. The number of teams close to us may lower the post season odds noticeably, but we are unlikely to be eliminate until the last week of the season at the worst.
  12. It's more likely Melvin gave Stearns a call and suggested trolling us message boarders by resting Grisham today.
  13. I haven't counted, but I don't think volume-wise this was a particularly slow deadline especially in the 2nd wildcard era. And honestly I don't like a ton of movement. August 15th is too late for my taste. You build a team in the offseason, that's your team. The years when volume has been high and every contender tried to upgrade their 5th reliever well it almost smacks of the obnoxiousness going on in the NBA.
  14. I definitely am a big fan of the low cost here. We have any number of options that could plausibly provide similar production with those ABs and get another youngish pitcher. Very few deals actually have that big of an impact for teams at the deadline, so improving roster balance this year and going forward is pretty big in my book. Clearly the more pitchers you have under control the better.
  15. I've long appreciated a certain amount of caution with helium in prospects, but there is no substantial reason I have seen anywhere for a guy with the high draft status, a very respectable age and the consistency of having broken out all year at 2 different levels not being more correctly viewed at the end of July by major services. I agree with the notion that if Harrison is still a top 100 prospect Grisham certainly is as well. I could live with him being slightly higher because of ability to play CF and other tools, but the bat difference is huge at this point, nearly 400 OPS points huge in the same league and because Harrison has missed time in a somewhat similar number of ABs
  16. I'm in favor of dealing pieces, but Grisham has really moved into don't deal territory for me. A potential big time bat to move into the line-up for years to come and easily keep the team with a strong competitive outlook for years is worth a ton.
  17. I think you can make a pretty god argument with park effects that Bagwell was at least as good of an overall hitter as Big Mac. He certainly beats him handily in WAR though some of that is just being healthy.
  18. In as well
  19. I like the earlier deadline. There is plenty of time for teams to figure out where they think they stand, then they need to make choices and strategize. The longer things go in terms of trades I actually find it unappealing to over encourage selling off. Watching a bunch of trades at the end of August where suddenly everyone stocks up their bullpens cheap because 20 teams are out of it and no one wants to give relievers long terms contracts.
  20. The biggest add at the moment seems to be the in game power, so it makes some sense that it might finally be developing.
  21. I suspect the issue is that everything about his profile points to being the type of player who does age out of the league quickly and at a younger age, which is why he has not had luck getting the multi year deals.
  22. As much as I have no particular sympathy, once you factor in the years of terrible minor league wages, and the tax disadvantage of getting a couple of big paychecks instead of multiple years of mid range pay checks it is not super surprising.
