  1. Ortiz is about the only exception I can think of where just going year to year arby or not with Aguilar isn't the smart move. I thought Fielder for sure was going to bust the curve on big guys and... Perhaps at some point you trade him, but certainly not now.
  2. Orimolye seems to be taking a pretty solid step forward. His low A numbers weren't great but clearly better then he had done, but a mid .800 OPS in Carolina is really good. Like big time break out big if he ends the year with that kind of line.
  3. There might be a mathematical difference in strength of schedule, but as others have identified we've played multiple good teams already as well, so I would be shocked if it was that skewed from the first half.
  4. For more context Biloxi seems to play as a modest pitchers park as well, and the Southern League as a whole is definitely a pitchers league
  5. The Twins are having to have their relief pitcher hit because they only have 1 player left on the bench in the 7th inning because of the heat
  6. Very high average hitters have gotten rather rare in MLB, and so far Hiura is showing he might fit in that category. Offensively his stat line look very similar to Derek Jeter with modest walks and power (though very good for a SS) to go with that. Jeter may have been over rated to an extent, but he's still a very legit HOFer and is useful as a comparison for the purposes of showing how good a hitter can be in that high contact style. Primarily because there is enough power there that it's not just the slap it on the ground and get infield hits.
  7. Put me in the camp of maybe waiting, but making him an August 31st call-up in case he is as incredible as he's been so far and you want him on the post season roster.
  8. 3 starts without giving up a run as a starter out of 4 is pretty good. More then 1K per inning in each start. 2 starts with 10Ks or more... Easily has to be one of the best starts to a career of any Brewer pitcher.
  9. Perhaps, but his batting average is also still north of .300. I'm starting to get rather curious how much helium he will get. Hitting well in the Carolina league at 21 is the stuff of real prospects.
  10. In a similar vein I'm sure someone would be critical in a 173-0 that the kids didn't get to play enough in September to develop them or something...
  11. His season line for the Carolina league is looking very much like the advanced college hitting prospect we drafted. It makes me wonder at what point he might get promoted.
  12. If Suter could some how get through 7 innings and then hand things over to Logan for the last 2 it would be ridiculously perfect.
  13. Well I feel real good about the last 50 ABs with another HR tonight.
  14. Here's to exercising the backend of the bullpen today, not that the term really applies all that well this year.
  15. In regards to Saladino this year and Sogard last year Maybe we've just found whatever stash St. Louis used to use every year to turn AAAA middle IFers into near All-stars for a season or two.
  16. I think we can all agreed to be suspicious of Colorado numbers, but in terms of OBP Orf has done this at every level.
  17. My first thought watching the highlight this morning not knowing the outcome was that Braun must have gotten under it just enough and knew it because his body language was very tense, yet immediate. Ueck used to do games with Costas, so I'd like to think he could adapt and his slips are more noticeable. I'll listen regardless when I get the chance, but it wouldn't hurt to switch formats.
  18. Narrative and perception matter a great deal in these rankings. In this case the Brewers system has already been viewed positively for a few years, and some of the players mentioned who might normally face more skepticism if they start performing could generate a 'and we weren't even counting these guys before vibe'. I don't know how plausible that is, but commentators are more likely to catch onto that then they would have a couple of years ago.
  19. I've come around to actually liking both, though I do think we really to add a big addition to the rotation to maximize the value of the moves. Yelich is basically everything we hope Brinson might become and there were already cautionary signs that he might fall well short of that. My only negativity was really emotional attachment. Harrison was the big tool guy we drafted to get impact players and it looked like that was starting to pay-off. But Yelich is like the best of getting a free agent and the best of having a great prospect. Now it is certainly fair to think that we can't do too many more deals like that or the team will have a very short shelf life as it ages quickly without enough young talent to cycle in. Things potentially look even better anticipating some kind of return for someone out of the Aguilar/Thames/Santana group. Cain put me down in the camp that 5 years is not too long as long as your expectation is not that he'll give more value then he is being paid every year. With his profile it is easy to imagine him being a solid or better 4th outfielder in that 5th year. If you've gotten good value the other years that is not a disastrous hit by any means.
  20. The problem with the investment theory as applied to delaying payments. Is that I have seen precious little evidence that teams actually manage payroll savings in that manner. It appears instead that the payroll is set every year as a more or less fixed number that is determined by anticipated revenue. In short payroll savings = profit which usually seems to disappear into ownership pockets instead of being reinvested. Now there is some anecdotal evidence that some owners do invest in other areas from time to time, but they aren't out there systematically buying mutual funds and sitting on the money to earn interest for the team.
  21. What about the Big Ten network? I have to imagine that their veiwership craters outside of the football and basketball seasons.
  22. Fun trivia question I do not know the answer to. How many players are still active that pre-date Brewerfan? or related how many predate the Power 50. It definitely feels like the end of an era of sorts.
  23. The point of going to college is not to increase future earnings. In any endeavor that belief is bad for education.
  24. GPS would actually far less accurate then what they do right now. It would have to be some other type of technology, but GPS only gets you accurate to a couple of feet.
