  1. I really hope they are working the Jeffress and Thornburg moves at least as much as Luc.
  2. Deleted wrong quote and updated. Apologize for the confusion.
  3. I do. Many do. We are sitting behind the best team in all of baseball that is young, talented, has a solid farm system, and arguably the best manager and GM in all of baseball. They are going to be the standard of this division and the NL for several years. No matter how much "falls into place", we will not be a better team than the Cubs in the next 2-3 years at least. And that is being generous and frankly a bit dishonest, as I think they will be dominant for 5+ years easily. Additionally, we are behind the Cardinals that are still one of the best organizations in all of sports. They are .533 and view it as a major disappointment. The Bucs are regressing, but they no longer are a joke and jumping to their level alone will be a feat. The Reds are the only team in the division I can realistically see us being ahead of for the foreseeable future. We are staring BEST CASE at a wildcard spot anytime in the near future. Regardless of what you or I or anyone thinks about Gallo, there is no way the Milwaukee Brewers can find major league ready talent and win with it any time soon. We cannot and will not win anytime in the next 2-3 years with the best team in baseball in front of us. Period. Personally, I think Gallo would be a nice pickup, and the franchise needs power. However, if he's the headliner of the trade, I think it would go against everything this team needs to be progressing towards. I vastly prefer younger talent that will be major league ready in 2-3 years setting us up for 4-5 years from now being competitive. If it's Gallo plus 2-3 of the players mentioned most often, I think that's a fine haul. If it's 4-5 of the rest of their top talent not named Gallo, I'll be even more positive. Not because I want to see a minor league team win a championship, but because watching the Brewers go 76-86 or thereabouts doesn't make me feel any better than going 66-96, and because the long term thinking that is required dictates that "trying to win" now is pointless, so get young, get talented, and shoot for 2018-19 realistically.
  4. For the life of me, I don't understand this mindset to somehow punish Luc. First, the Brewers included the NTC in the contract. They knew it was there, and it's there for a reason. Secondly, he likely has 1 solid contract in his career, and trying to get to that contract sooner is exactly what he should be thinking about. And lastly, at some point if you do want to get something of value for him, sending him down to AAA or sitting him only hurts the Brewers. You're still paying him, you get nothing from him, and you're further eroding what you can get. I understand emotional responses, but some of these are just short sighted and silly.
  5. Assuming a big 2016 season I agree.
  6. Piazza and Junior only. Mind boggling. Simply mind boggling. Jim Edmonds gone with only 2.5% what a travesty. Him and Lofton. Bagwell at 71.6% Raines at 69.8% Mussina at 43% Martinez at 43.4% David Freaking Eckstein with 2 votes.
  7. Yost's teams could win the next 5 World Series and it still won't change the fact that he is a moron.
  8. As much as it pains me, I have to chose the lesser of two evils here and hope the Cards beat the Cubs. My thinking is this. Everything about the Cardinals is the worst. The players, the fans, the organization. It's the worst. It can't be worse. Winning or losing this series, they will still be the worst. I can't in good conscious root for the Cubs, as while their fans are horrible in their own right, I cannot support seeing them actually have a reason to get more smug, more obnoxious, and more cocky. Cubs fans have room to get much much worse. Having to deal with one horrific fanbase in this division is more than enough. I'd rather see Cubs fans angry and sad. I do not want the Cardinals to win. At all. But I want to see Cubs fans joy at winning even less. Plus, the Cards losing to the Dodgers will be more enjoyable. The only downfall is I kinda like the Cubs team...
  9. 3 teams in this division are going to finish the season winning at least 91+ games and making the playoffs. I see no reason to believe that the Cubs or Cardinals will regress any time soon, and definitely not in the next 2 years barring crazy unforeseen injuries. While I believe that the Pirates will continue to be very solid, perhaps one could make a case that they might be the team we could catch in the future, but if I'm being honest with myself, I see zero line of sight for Milwaukee competing for a playoff spot anytime in the next 2 years. Minimum While I'm not advocating a salary dump for players like Luc or Nelson, there should be no person on this roster off limits. Dump salary for some, get what you can for most guys, and hold out for a great return with others. But there shouldn't be anyone that is "off limits". Likewise, I would hope that they don't entertain any significant FA moves, beyond filling positions cheaply. Going out and "making a splash" to try to keep fans happy is lunacy, IMP as I don't see any possible way we compete for a playoff spot next year. Focus on scouting and the draft, dump as much salary as possible for offseason 2016+ while stock up on as much young talent as possible, and build a plan to compete in 2018. Perhaps 2017, but probably 2018.
  10. Agree completely on the pick. And, man that is quite a Sophie's Choice right there - who would I rather see make a deep playoff run the Cubs or the Cards? Instinctively I immediately thought, Cards I mean duh, I HATE the Cards. But now that I think about it, Cards fans are what they are and will never change, win or lose. Giving Cubs and their fans a reason to get that arrogant. Ugh. No thanks. I've talked myself into it, I agree with both your statements.
  11. Go back last 10 drafts and compare top 10 to 11-20 in the first round. Far more talent in those first 5 and 10 picks. But, I'm sure the current players trade value will sky rocket because we end the season with 75 wins instead of 65? Because reasons?
  12. I'd feel way more comfortable at 64 or 65 wins getting us into the top 3 here. The nine games vs Cin will be pretty huge in determining that.

  14. Anyone remember last year when the Astros internal player database was hacked into and a bunch of things were leaked? Turns out that the FBI is investigating the St Louis Cardinals as the hackers in question. How will Chris Carpenter explain this to his son?
  15. Aiken, Allard, Whitley in that order.
  16. While Melvin's statement concerns me, any chance he's positioning here? Theory being that publicly positions that we're not simply doing a fire sale and we need to keep certain players and then he can more easily play hard and thereby driving the price up? Mind you, I don't think it changes much and GMs aren't stupid, but perhaps he believes he has to at least maintain the illusion that he needs to keep some talent here...
  17. To me, anyone on the MLB roster that can be moved for value should. I wouldn't deem anyone untouchable. I'd need to be blown away for Luc for sure and Nelson/Peralta probably. Anyone else that can be, should be moved. We are is desperate need of a 3 year plan like the Cubs. No point spending money, no point shoring positions up with over the age vets. Go young, be bad, grab talent in the Top 2-3 of the draft and plan for 2018.
  18. Broxton making $9M this year still looks worse.
  19. http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/2015/04/source-texas-rangers-open-to-taking-josh-hamilton-back-in-low-risk-situation.html/ as if Hamilton and the Angels are figuring out how to part ways, and he may well end up back with the Rangers.
  20. Feel bad for him. I know it's easy to point and laugh at him, but addiction is a huge challenge. I wish him the best.
