  1. I hope so. I have been really optomistic until this series with the Cardinals. Taking the series against Cinci could go a long way towards turning things around. Even if the Red's are kind of weak, it would still be great to notch a couple of solid victories on the road. If they can build some momentum coming into Sheets's return, I think they'll be alright. I think that part of the problem is that the team is so young, but that could work to their advantage in that a couple of quick victories could really change the mindset of the team. (Or at the very least change the mindset of the fans.)
  2. As Mass pointed out in yesterday's link report, Alcides Escobar is still just 20 years old and is spraying singles all over the Huntsville outfield. His batting average is sitting right around .300 in what is turning into a decent sample size (170 ABs.) But aside from his statistics he isn't someone that I've followed very closely, so I have some questions for those that have seen him play or follow the link reports more closely than I do. Does he have the potential to add any more power? From what I remember in spring training from the last couple of years he almost appears to be so small that there may not be much room to build a lot of muscle. (He's 6' - 1'' and 155 pounds.) He has stolen about 30 bases per year the last two years. Is he fast enough that with some solid coaching and improving his instincts he could crank that up to 40 per year? (of course he would also need to cut down on his caught stealing (12) this year. If he could, it seems like he could be a great leadoff hitter down the road. What are the brewer's plans with him? If he continues to hit the magical .300 for the rest of the year in Huntsville does he get the bump to Nashville to start next year or does he have more to prove at the AA level? I know that his defense is solid, but what are his strengths? (range, arm, consistency, etc...) Thanks for all the help!
  3. Yount is a racing fan, so it could have been.
  4. I went all last summer without cable and internet. It is just too expensive for one person to pay the whole bill. Once my roommates moved in we decided to hook it up. We tried to avoid Charter but there was no way to do any combination of both for a reasonably comparable price. I ended up taking my dog out on a lot of jogs and reading more. It also meant that I spent a lot of time at the Blue Moon for the AC and Brewer games. You know where my place is. If you're ever going through withdrawls over a lack of Brewer games just invite yourself over.
  5. My girlfriend bought me a gift certificate to go skydiving when I was in high-school. Unfortunately I had a major back surgery shortly after that and wasn't supposed to do things like that for about a year. I decided to ignore the doctors (a little bit) and tried to schedule the jump about 8 months after the surgery. The company informed me that the gift certificate had expired. I was really ticked off for a long time, but there was nothing I could do. Needless to say I wouldn't recommend scheduling your jump with the group out of East Troy. Hopefully I'm able to go sometime in the near future.
  6. Teaching her to score is a great suggestion. She has the position players down. (I started with JJ Hardy and Ryan Braun for obvious reason's.) She's an accountant, so I'm thinking of teaching her about some of the basic statistics.
  7. My girlfriend is trying really hard to learn a little bit about baseball. She has an extremely limited knowledge base to start from, so I really need to start almost from scratch. Does anyone have suggestions on how to teach her the basics?
  8. Yonder Mountain String Band throws a TON of energy into their shows and have an arsenal of hundreds of songs to keep you on your toes.
  9. I spent 6 summers working on a gas pier filling up boats on Lake Geneva. The scenery was always fantastic, but adding one of my favorite baseball players to a boat full of attractive women wouldn't be too bad...
  10. With a small dog like that try tying a really thick fishing line to him while training him out doors. The fact that you still have some control over him but you're 15 - 25 ft away will freak it out and show that you have control over it. It also allows you to give it quick little tugs to regain its attention when their mind starts to lose its focus. The X-Ray fees you played are totally in line. My dog was hit by a car and needed surgery to repair it. I'm now saving up to have the rods and screws they installed taken out because they are starting to cause her obvious discomfort about a year later. After both surgeries I'll probably have dropped almost $3000 but it has been totally worth it.
  11. Yeah, I guess I kind of viewed it as a "Wiki" type operation with the 5 most recent featured in a slot on the main page and then some general oversight from the moderators.
  12. Is there any possibility that we could create a running tracker of articles on the Brewers for the main page? It could be kind of like the running thread in the Major League forum, where posters or staff could provide the titles and then direct links to articles at brewers.com, MJS, ESPN, etc... I think that this could help solidify Brewerfan.net as the "one stop shop" for all the brewers news that someone can handle. I don't think the other sites would get upset since it would link directly to their site and the article, in fact it would probably increase the overall hits and readers they get. It might also increase traffic to brewerfan?s homepage (I think a lot of people skip straight to the forums.) I love the short updates and articles that the staff writes up about major transactions. Those could stay prominent for major transactions, brewerfan inside scoops, and minor league announcements. Just a thought.
  13. I know their is no magic pill. Wasn't Ephedra supposed to make a comeback at some point?
  14. There was a stretch of the season where I wasn't sure if Miller was going to provide that much for the team besides insurance. I guess that has changed...
  15. My girlfriend and I heading to San Francisco for a couple of days next week. Any suggestions about what we should do while we're there? (Besides the All-Star Game http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ) We'll be staying in the Financial District and pretty much limited to public transportation.
  16. I'll be there. Is anyone worried that it might sell out? I'm going to be traveling for a couple of weeks and won't be around to buy tickets when they go on sale. Should I get a friend to pick one up for me?
  17. I listen to a few different "jam bands" (Yonder, Keller, Moe, etc...) but never really got into Phish... until recently. I've started to appreciate all of their stuff a lot more once I got into their studio albums. They didn't always carry the energy into the studio, but they were writting really good tunes (for the most part.) I still get annoyed at least once or twice during almost all of their shows for playing some insanely long unstructured jam that looses any sense of togetherness that they had in their shorter solos and jams. I would say that I appreciate Phish way more today then I did when they were still touring. You can hate the scene if you want (and I do get really annoyed with it) but to say that you have to be a stoner to enjoy Phish is just bunk. Fishman was / is a great drummer Mike Gordon was / is a sick bass player Trey (is a pompous ass) but is a slick guitar player with a voice that fit their sound Page had his moments Their overall energy is what helped set them apart and develop such a loyal following.
  18. I live with a guy getting his Masters in cartography right now and that's nothing. Some of the demo programs that he has access to are absolutely insane.
  19. She's just starting to figure out who the Brewers are... Trying to explain who the heck the Nashville Sounds are is a whole ball of wax that I'm not sure she's ready for. Baby steps out the door. Baby steps down the hall..." Like I said in my post above, I would be fine with just a t-shirt that had his name and # on it.
  20. My girlfriend is finally starting to take an interest in the Brewers and she's decided that Braun is going to be her guy. I want to encourage her by getting her a jersey or t-shirt with his name and number on it. Anyone know where I can get one yet? I checked brewers.com but they don't have any t-shirts with the players names on them and the $170 for a jersey is a little bit more than I'm willing to spend.
  21. I guess I would wonder why that post needed to be made at all? If someone else has already stated your opinion why clutter up the thread and make everyone read through extra posts that aren't adding new substance?
  22. Let me preempt Bucksman4's post and say that "Sheets needs to win this in order to prove that he's an ace." Anything less then a complete game shutout and we should trade him for a sack of big league chew.
  23. Count me in the crowd that finds it to be a fun tradition. Creatively highlighting it is important though. In the past I've tuned in to games based off of recomendations in the Link Report.
  24. Ok Bucksman4... that pretty much settles it huh? Sheets is an ace right?
