  1. Every time a Brewer's game is delayed by rain. Somewhere a kitten is strangled.
  2. Wow. Prince and Hardy are absolutly carrying this team right now. If Hart, Hall or Weeks can get hot in NYC I feel like we can win that series without too much stress. Oh wait... we still have to beat the Nats tonight!
  3. Heck of a foul ball to follow it up from Hall! Then a dribbler up the middle...
  4. I was worried about Prince at the beginning of that at bat. Shows you what I know!
  5. I think that the minor league link report and the in game thread are two of the coolest features of the site, but someone just stumbling across the home page might not find them very easily. If both of them were linked in a section or featured more prominently (like how the Daily Brew and the articles are) more people might find them. I think about my father as an example of someone who would utilize direct links from the homepage. He would never enter a chat room / forum, but would certainly be interested in the great statistical breakdowns at the beginning of each game thread.
  6. I watched him doing defensive drills in spring training and he looked very good. He looked agile and quick behind the plate. His arm looked great but that isn't really any news. He also looked good in BP. The ball really jumped off of his bat. He was clearly making more solid contact then some of the other guys in his hitting group. I just can't ever get over how short he is. It will certainly be an obstacle he'll have to continue to overcome.
  7. I watched the Hurricane closely for the last 4-5 days in spring training. I was really impressed. I think he's a solid emergency backup if (god forbid) Weeks goes down with something long term. His bat looked good and he seemed really comfortable on defense. His foot work looked solid and he was judging balls really well (which I can?t say was true for some of the other infielders.) I?m excited for him to have a big year. A year of solid numbers at AAA would really increase his organizational and trade value.
  8. I was at the game today, so I'll drop a few comments here. Braun's throwing error was on a routine play. Fielder should have made the tag, but the throw was high and pulled him off the bag. Estrada's error was a really strange one. The runner never took off for second, but he threw anyways. There was no one there to recieve the throw. I'm not sure what he was thinking. Suppan looked REALLY good. He was changing speeds really well, and had the Angel's hitters completly off balance
  9. I can't commit right now and probably won't be able to do so until the day of the event due to a hectic work schedule. I'll try to make it if I'm not slaving away!
  10. Seems like he is really level headed which is always nice to see in young blue-chip prospects. A little more work with the communications people could clean up his "I mean" problem. He seems to have all his cliches down.
  11. Mark A. could just be publicly reiterating what Doug Melvin told him the team needed or was looking for. I'm happy that he wants to be involved in helping out when he can, I just hope that he is making the decisions about which individual players to pursue to Dougie. I wasn't really jazzed about signing Suppan, but I would be all over it for four years at around $10 million per year. If possible I would try to frontload the contract pretty severely.
  12. Jack Z. and the Brewers seem to rank overall "athleticism" very high when they are considering draft picks. There have been a couple of examples where this has paid off on the offensive side, but are there good examples of where this has beneficial for pitchers? I think that Rogers was picked to some degree because of his overall athleticism. I'm curious about the opinion of others out there in Brewer's Nation... How much do you think this philosophy played into the selection of Rogers and what are your feelings on placing a high regard to athleticism as an overall philosophy?
  13. The Great Dane actually just opened a third place in the Hilldale Mall complex off of University Ave. and Midvale Ave. Also in that neighborhood is the Blue Moon, which I think would be a great place to host it. The bartenders there are pretty big Brewer fans, they have good beer, pool + darts, good food and several nice TVs to catch a Badger game (or something else that was on at that time.) The Blue Moon would get my vote.
  14. The Power 50 served as my introduction to the minor league system about 5 years ago. It helped me get familiar with all of most important names in the system and made reading all of the box scores a ton of fun. I know a couple of other folks that are now addicted to following the Brewer's minor league system that were weened on your lists and comments. It was obvious that other interests and responsibilities were starting to cut into your Power 50 time over the last year or so. I hope this frees up enough time to keep your sanity! Thanks again.
  15. I would rather have Milledge then Pierre for sure. I might prefer Roberts at the right price, but Milledge would be very tempting none the less. I remember following him a bit before the 2003 draft and all of the conversation on this board about huge potential. He is still really young and there is nothing I see that would indicate he won't start to achieve some of that potential in the near future. His stats from last year are not pretty, but that was in his first 166 big league at bats. He had a big year in 2004 at single A (posting a 978 OPS) and had solid 2005 campaign in AA batting .337 I don't know if I would give up Cappy, but I would do Doug Davis + change. The money we would save on Davis and in CF could allow us to chase a true impact bat in the FA pool. Milledge could easily become part of our young core and help Milwaukee for years to come. If he struggles then let Gross, Clark, Hall, or Hart take over in CF. edit: I would hope that coaches, managment, and the positive influences of other "young and rich," but well behaved guys like Prince and Weeks would help him mature a bit.
  16. Update: Braun is now batting .321 and slugging .664 driving his OPS up to a lofty 1.067 I don't know why, but I was still hesitant about Braun until this AFL campaign. However, he is absolutely raking (3rd highest OPS in the league) and has really convinced me that he will perform at every level. The only thing that worries me (a little)is that he is in the top 20 in strikeouts as well. I can't wait until we can use Koskie as trade bait mid-season and we get to watch him mash in Milwaukee every day. Count me in as being on the bandwagon!
  17. I refuse to be associated with you losers.
  18. I believe that there was one person on the board who predicted that Hart's mechanics (elbow) were going to prevent him from being a MLB caliber hitter. It is completely inaccurate to say that everyone who posts here believes / believed that. When talking about Braun's defense it is important to think about where we want him to refine those skills. We needed Week's bat badly enough that we were willing to suffer through a ton of errors to let him develop in the bigs. The question in Spring Training will be do we need Braun's bat badly enough to let him (potentially) butcher a position for a season or two? (As well as start the arby clock of someone who has the potential to become an elite player at a young age.)
  19. I'm not going to comment on Maddux since my opinion have been covered by others in both of these threads. I would like to comment on Villenueva being in the pen. I wouldn't mind him starting the season there to help keep his innings down a little bit and focus on refining his skills a bit at the MLB level. If someone goes down with an injury or is struggling to get out of the gate early next season, then Villy can step right in. If that isn't the case, our veteran starter can move into long relief in the pen and provide some leadership. Picking up an average starter with a reasonable one year contract I say we should go for it. At the right price, Maddux would certainly fit that bill.
  20. My friends are really into The Office, and have been frantically trying to catch me up on the last two seasons over the last 2 days. It?s really solid and I'm looking forward to the new season. The Pam and Jim thing has probably been the most dominant reoccurring story line since the very first episode. As good as the office is it is still a distant second to Arrested Development in terms of best shows of the last few years.
  21. Yeah, It's the Yankees defense that gets them into the playoffs every year. edit: added blue
  22. The current minor league system is starting to remind me a lot of how it looked 5 years ago with one notable exception. We now have a couple of very legitimate prospects close to the big leagues. The rest of the system is similar in the sense that we have a lot of low level promising hitters who just need to prove themselves at the higher levels. All in all, we seem to have followed the formula that Jack Z. promised us; one solid wave of prospects that would be supplemented by a new wave 2 or 3 years later. All in all, I think it is a healthy system. After we see how the young A and A+ hitters develop, we can supplement them with impact college players through the draft to create a well rounded second wave of prospects. edit: John Manuel's assesment it the BA thread kind of echoes a lot of my thoughts on the system as whole (I would love to hear his comments on our young outfielder situation.) I wish that I would have read that before making this post...
