  1. Game 2 sounds like it could be cool! BASEBALL!!!! (Sorry for the all caps + excessive punctuation, but I couldn't control myself http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. Congrats Jamie. I really appreciate your dedication to the site. There are a lot of us out there who don't contribute much of substance, but certainly benefit from everyone else's hard work. I'm sure that you'll do a great job bringing the site new and beneficial exposure.
  3. Mine is working again now after being off most of the day.
  4. I was thinking that a cool feature for the site would be a statistics calculator, where users could plug a player?s stats in, and brewerfan would calculate out some of the more complicated stats. This would be great for OXS, OPS+, VORP, etc... I personally don't know where to find these stats all of the time and it would be fun to have them for the guys in the minors as well. For example if you wanted to calculate VORP, you would click on a link and it would take you to a screen which briefly explained VORP, offered space to enter the necessary statistics, and finally calculated it out. I'm not sure how hard this would be to construct, but it seems like it could be a pretty valuable tool.
  5. I'm disapointed that there are currently two threads in the major league forum that are making fun of player's wives and / or their families. (Molitor thread + Exkstein thread.) Not that its the end of the world, but most of the time I only have time to read through that forum quickly. If the brewerfan.net is going to allow personal attacks on players and their families (I guess I don't really care) can we at least keep it off-topic? I know its the off season and all. Sorry if this rubs anyone the wrong way. Thanks.
  6. For me it would be different if it was an injury or health related reason that cut his career short. If he simply walked away from the game with because he was tired of playing that is a completly different story. There are lots of players who have a dominating stretch of their career, but part of being a HOF player is making a truly unique mark on baseball. Allen put up dominating numbers for much longer than most were able to, but he chose to walk away from true greatness. I think that the HOF should have an exhibit that tells the story of some of these borderline candidates, goofballs / characters, and others who changed the game but probably aren't HOF worthy. I'm going to have to vote no for a HOF plaque, but Dick Allen certainly should be remembered.
  7. What a frickin' Joke of an Article. & I didn't even need 2 Read It. Snuff, How do you know that it is a Joke of an Article if you didn't read it? The author of the article posted some pretty intelligent defenses to his statements. I normally don't read your posts because I can't decipher the middle school instant messenger scripts, but I went back through and sifted through your posts in this thread. I struggled to find anywhere that you used any facts or evidence to back up the statement that the article is a joke. The article was examining OPS of Leftfielders who had enough at bats to qualify at the position. Among those who qualified Lee had an OPS within .006 of the average. In the context of this article Lee is most certainly average. Now, other posters took the time to point out the weakness of single stat analysis, or they opened discussion about the additional values that Lee brought to the team this year outside of his average OPS. So instead of launching off on Ja002h, maybe you should grow up and realize that most people value thoughtful discussion instead of the unsubstantiated claims you toss out as facts.
  8. Thanks. I knew it had been discussed, but couldn't find it.
  9. Is there any Statistic that calculates stolen bases into overall offensive production? Can it be as simple as turning the base hits into doubles that coincided with the stolen base? I know there is also a decent argument over the value of stolen bases and if they are even statistically worth the risk involved. Anyone here care to hash out the argument against stealing bases?
  10. wow. I'm really glad that I was bartending last night while watching the game. Kept me from getting too into it. I still had a meltdown when we finally gave the game away. Luckily there was plenty of booze there to consol me. I blame the Brewers for the fact I couldn't make it into the house last night. eh... the porch wasn't too bad I guess.
  11. Zape, At what point did we stop developing our own draft picks to focus on Anderson? There are 6 teams in the minor leagues. There are plenty of spots for gambles like him. What did we give up to get him? A spot on the bus? If he were to even throw a few solid games in the big leagues or stay healthy long enough to draw interest from another GM and become valuable trade bait he will have been worth the investment. I also wouldn't consider any of his numbers to be those of a "total flop." A little disapointing for a high pick maybe but nothing horrible. We gave up a box of cracker jacks. Worst case scenario is that we got 10 innings for it. Best case scenario is he turns back into a decent prospect. I don't really like cracker jacks all that much anyways.
  12. I really think this should be moved to the Major League forum where more people can see it.
  13. I never knew that the Brewers were so big in Peru. Sweet!
  14. I agree with Igor that Cruz gives us some nice depth to the middle infleild. I was really looking for him to have a nice year at the plate, and he has more than surpassed my expectations. I think that Cruz will be great trade bait in the not too distant future. His numbers and ceiling make him the perfect throw in to seal a deal for us. Hopefully they never look at his defense though!
  15. That picture above makes it look as though Salome's cannon may have misfired. I find it difficult to listen to those denying that Angel is having difficulties with the defense so far. I whole heartedly believe all those that say he has the potential to be phenomenal behind the plate. But EVERY indication the box scores, game logs, etc... have given us is that he needs some time to fine tune his skills there.
  16. Well, I hate to bring everyone down here, but I'm proud of myself for going my first night without drinking in a little over two months. My liver, girlfriend, and energy level were all calling for a break. 2 or 3 days away from booze should be a nice little detox for me to get me pumped up again to finish the summer strong!
  17. Congrats Scoop. May your daughter be the good luck charm this organization has so desperatly needed for over a decade!
  18. I'm going to be driving up to the Twin Cities to pick my girlfriend up during the game tonight. Any chance I'll be able to catch the game on the radio or will I have to suffer through a Twinkies broadcast?
  19. Maybe it was a subtle hint that could help to alleviate some of the problems. Can one be anti-polls and pro-lemur? I sure hope so.
  20. What about running polls on a weekly basis on the main page and have people suggest ideas for it?
  21. Rolling tipsy for the 5th night in a row... just got a new computer to allow me to participate in the thread. Yehaa! Imitation Mrs. Packman contest tonight to suppress off night boredom!
  22. SBS... I admire your courage. Drastic times call for drastic measures. May the sacred cheese and pickle sandwich gods smile down on us tonight.
  23. Should I become Dr. Octagon or something? I have a feeling that Sheets is going to pull out his space doo-doo pistol today.
  24. I really like this feature. Thanks Mad!
  25. Someone better be ready to post one of those jumbo pickles at the top of next inning. I can only assume that we'll easily take the lead.
