  1. Vesuvio is a decent place to have a drink. It was a hang out of Jack Kerouac and other beat writers back in the day. http://www.vesuvio.com/ The modern art museum has always had some really cool exhibits when I've visited. Stay away from the downtown district - its mostly corporate and doesn't have much culture outside that. I've spent a decent amount of time in the city and most of my favorite times have just been picking a neighborhood and exploring for a whole day. I typically pick a neighborhood / district to have breakfast and then get recommendations for bars, shops, entertainment, parks, etc... in the immediate vicinity. If you're cool being flexible with your time and not necessarily seeing all the big ticket items (mentioned in a post above) then I highly recommend that route - the city has a ton going on and is one of the most fun I've ever explored. PS. If you're not on train route public transportation is surprisingly weak.
  2. "[Removed]armchair gm's" pretty sure that's the point of this website... Count me in the slightly disappointed crowd. I didn't have two favorites lined up but I wanted them to go high ceiling and was willing to risk the potential low reward risk that comes with those guys sometimes.
  3. Lindor off the boards is the first pick that I think really influences the Brewers at all.
  4. A huge welcome for Cappy would make me proud. Super classy guy that I wish we could have found a place for this year. I think that we're on the right path to establishing the reputation that Milwaukee is a good place to play baseball. The more former and current players there are out there saying good things about the franchise and the fans the better off we'll be. Guys like Cappy and Todd Coffey getting warm receptions will help out our image a ton. This has nothing to do with the fans, but the only thing I can think of that would paint the franchise in a negative light over the last couple years would be the handling of JJ Hardy and possibly the Prince Fielder explosion at home plate.
  5. Like most of my posts in other forums - this one will add no value to the thread. I just wanted to say that I'm more excited about this draft than I have been about any since 2005. Thanks to everyone who has been providing links to good articles and quality insights over the last month that I've been reading the Draft Forum! Also wanted to put out an advance thank you to the BF.net staff for compiling all of the info on our draft picks. Its great to have a one stop shop!
  6. This thread got me wondering when the 5 man rotation became standard and what the statistical difference between the 4 and 5 man rotations has been. I found this article from Baseball Prospectus to be interesting: http://www.baseballprospe...ticle.php?articleid=1596 (fixed link --1992)
  7. POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP Kick in the crotch for sure.
  8. man Braun has just missed a couple of these. frustrating!
  9. I'm assuming that you are correct - it will be Loe in the 8th.
  10. Lawrie will have a solid career and may be an all-star level player but he wouldn't be helping us this year unless we traded Weeks. Odorizzi will probably have a strong career in the big leagues as well but we have a couple of years to fill the gap in the system created when we lost him. (Score for this season = no loss) Jeffress is putting together a nice season but I don't think that we're going to be kicking ourselves too badly once Greinke starts to get on a roll. (score for this season = slight loss to the bullpen) Cain was always a solid fourth outfielder in my mind and I had / have little confidence in Escobar's bat ever being more than a number 7 or 8 hitter. Neither are big loses. (score for this season = very small loss) Adding Marcum is a very BIG gain for the Brewers this season. The addition of Greinke has been minimal so far but will be huge by the end of the year. 1/4 through the season we're ahead on the trade. At the end of the year we will be way ahead. Even next year I think that we'll still be glad we made the moves even if we don't make the playoffs. We just didn't give up many irreplaceable pieces of the team.
  11. Those were two really rough games. At least we got the W last night. Anyone know what the time line for getting Morgan back out there is supposed to be?
  12. who do we leadoff with next inning? Kotsay or Boggs. Money says Kotsay. Brain says Boggs.
  13. After four straight balls I hope that McGhee doesn't go up there hacking at sliders in the dirt.
  14. Stinks that even if Fielder gets on and drives in Weeks that I don't think we'll be able to drive him in. I just have no faith in that part of our lineup. Hopefully he just jacks a homer.
  15. Lucroy got hosed by the big strike zone too. The tough thing is that last night the zone was super small.
  16. Wow. 119 pitches for Wolf. I'm not too worried, but that is a heck of a load for a guy struggling that hard all night.
  17. That pitch was WAY outside. General rule of thumbs for umps. If YunE isn't swiging you know that it isn't close.
  18. Wolf and Lucroy don't normally work together. Clearly they aren't on the same page with the strategy. I don't mind the mound visits if it means we're not getting shelled on bad pitches / mis-communications. I would be interested to have a reporter dig into what is actually going on post-game. Do we send Wolf back out there next inning? He is over 100 pitches...
  19. Wolf is shaking his arm a ton and looks gased. Probably need to keep him on a very short leash in the coming innings. Its painful to watch him out there right now. (Not that YunE or the defense is helping him much.)
  20. Jeeeeeezzzz. Yuni didn't start off charging that ball and then bobbled it. Sweet now its top of the order with the bases juiced. It would be neat if Wolf is under 100 pitches after 4 innings.
  21. Looked like he slipped. Can't give him to much grief for that on a slick field.
  22. I'll be really annoyed if Kemp gets a hit and drives in a run here. Pitcher is struggling and Kemp is one of their only good hitters right now. I would have intentionally walked him. edit: I guess that is why I'm sitting on the couch and not in the dugout calling the shots right now. Nice job Wolf!
  23. Yea, Hart looked like he was trying to do a Gomez impression on that HR. Looked like he timed the jump wrong but it was hard to tell on my computer screen.
  24. Not a great start. Hopefully Wolf can limit the damage from their big hitters from here on out.
