  1. I'm really worried about Loe burning out early this season with all of the work he's getting. I fully agree that it is stupid to warm him up in that situation. Axford should be sent out there regardless unless we somehow went up by 5 or more runs. If that is the situation then you send out someone to just do clean up.
  2. Interesting that Loe is warming up in a save situation on Axford's bobblehead day. edit: Ax is up now.
  3. Wolf at 92 pitches (3 hits so far.) It would be great to see him finish this game.
  4. I agree that it is good to get out of PHI with 2 of 3 against their strongest pitchers. I disagree on the managment decisions. Who would you have pinch hit for Almonte? I get the impression that Morgan is not ready to play. That doesn't leave us with many options. I thought that Kintzler looked excellent in the first inning and didn't see any reason to bring in Loe. (I assume that's who you are referring to with the more-experianced pitcher comment.) Loe is getting used a LOT right now with Saito and Hawkins out. Not need to burn up his arm in April.
  5. That was brutal. It stinks when you can jump out in front of a pitcher like Lee and then give up the lead like that. Lousy thing is I think we actually played a good game. Narveson looked really good except for the Polanco HR. The gopher ball Polanco hit was a bad pitch but the walk and single before it still looked like Narveson was in control. Kintzler looked really good too except for the complete meat ball to Victorino. He seemed to have hitters guessing at the plate. I can't wait to have another offensive weapon to plug into the lineup. Hurry back Hart!
  6. I was late for work and on a conference call while waiting for a bus. When the bus arrived it was really full but there was one seat open so I took it and went on with my call. After a minute I realized that someone had spilled coffee on the seat so I got up and stood the rest of the way into the office. When I got there I had to immediately run to a meeting with a bunch of really high-level decision makers who I had never met before. I was a little late so I barged into the small room and worked my way around the table to the only open seat on the other side of the room. After sitting there for about 15 minutes I realized that something smelled terrible... urine. I'm looking around the room trying to figure out who lives with too many cats when it dawns on me that my pants are soaking wet and IT'S ME that smells like urine! I jumped up from the table and as cool as possible - worked my way back around the room (with my back to the wall the whole time) and made a super awkward exit. I ran back to my office where several co-workers confirmed that it was indeed my pants giving off the very pungent odor. I had to take another bus home (nobody would give me a ride in my condition), shower and change clothes for another meeting in the afternoon. When I walked into that meeting the woman who had been seated to my left earlier in the day was there. The look on her face when I walked in told me everything I needed to know - EVERYONE in the earlier meeting thought I had peed my pants. Awesome!
  7. The defense being "pretty good" for most of the game is totally irrelevent. It only takes one big mistake to screw up the game (like McGehee's.) Good teams make defensive mistakes but not as frequently and usually not as severe. I really hope this is just one bad outing for Axford. As I said earlier I've had an aweful feeling that he will struggle out of the gate and lose his spot while costing us 6 games in the process.
  8. That was a really poor decision by McGehee. He should have turned the easy double play. At the very least he needed to get that tag down. The extra pump on the throw cost us an out as well. All around bad deal for a guy saying that he was focusing on improving his defense. Hopefully there aren't too many more plays like that in crucial situations...
  9. Gomez was my surprise player for this year and Ax was my disapointment pick. Hopefully Axford pulls this out and shows that I don't know what I'm talking about.
  10. Any mention of Marcum's velocity? I wish that I could listen for myself but I'm going to have to rely on reports from others today.
  11. Bringing your own port-o-potty has been a good investment for us in the past. Opening day lines are brutal. It's not insanely expensive either. Just throw it in the back of a pick up truck.
  12. This thread inspired me to check. My roommate has The Perfect Pullup mounted on a door in our our house so I walked over to give it a whirl. I did three from close to full extension. I'm fairly sure that is about three more than I could have done two months ago before I started a light workout routine. Guess I still have a long way to go...
  13. Given how trendy bacon is right now I'm shocked that there isn't a bacon-based option.
  14. Is it normal to have the Director of Video Scouting managing these negotiations? I assumed that Ash did most of this himself with Melvin stepping in from time to time on the big ones.
  15. I would rather go back to those days than the days of debateing Kinney vs Franklin on the MLB roster.
  16. I'm not really worried about the pitching depth. I AM a bit concerned about the depth coming off the bench. I'm not in love with any of the guys that we have in the reserve roles right now and there is almost no pop coming off the bench at all. Aside from Gamel I don't think that any of the guys in AAA are ready to step in and hold their own at the MLB level. Its unfortunate, because I feel like half of the AAA roster will be ready for emergency call-ups or bench roles in 2012 if their development goes as planned.
  17. For everyone saying that this was obvious it sure seemed like he was being penciled into rotation and roster projections in other threads on a regular basis. I never understood why so many people thought that it was a given. I've always liked cappy a lot and hope that he lands someplace outside of the division and has a nice year. Edit: whoa - I've got to stop trying to make posts from my phone. It seems to get screwed up almost every time. Obviously this was intended for the Capuano thread. Not sure how it ended up here as I'm reading this thread for the first time almost a day after trying to post this in the other thread. Weird.
  18. Nice job getting this out early guys. I used this as an excuse to refresh my memory on the stats and histories of guys that I was really only paying sporadic attention to. It seems like there are a lot of guys in there who could suddenly leapfrog most of the pack if they stay healthy, stick at a new position or improve a certain area of their game. We just don't have a ton of guys who have "put it all together" for more than about 1/2 a season. Not in the tier of players i was describing above, but I have to believe that Eric Arnett could make a big push with some quality performances early in the year. Obviously he has had a really rough go of it so far but I'm a little surprised he has plummeted as far as he has. What would it take for Arnett to move up the ladder in the eyes of the Power 50 gods?
  19. I haven't had a chance to follow many of the rumors this off season. Has there been any talk of Hoffman finding a home out there? Any thoughts on where he might land? Obviously I'm most interested in the draft pick we would receive at this point.
  20. I just switched from a blackberry on US Cellular to the Iphone when I moved up to Alaska. The service range is pretty solid (which is hard to do in Alaska given the mountains and spread out population) and the prices were competitive with the other options that I had. The customer service with AT&T has been a thousand times better than US Cellular. I use the internet A LOT on my phone and I couldn't be happier with that function. I had a little bit of trouble with the aps at first, but it was kind of a unique problem with Itunes. The one thing that i recommend is to get the heavy duty case for it. It makes it a bit bulky but it has already saved the phone several major diggers.
  21. I really liked the female vets at the Westside Family Pet Clinic, Dr. Tina Karls was the best. The problem was that on several occasions we got bumped to Dr. Ken Lambert who I thought was kind of a nut and unnecessarily jacked up the price on me despite me stressing that I couldn't afford lavish and exotic treatments. All of the other vets there were AWESOME - I would highly recommend the clinic as a whole.
  22. He's basically been injured since 2005 so I wouldn't do anything crazy to get him despite his strong numbers for a young guy in the minors. I would probably pick him up on a minor league contract as a scrap heap guy. One of the reports I saw said that his elbow should be ready by Spring Training.
  23. I usually access the message boards through the main page and have had trouble loading it for the last couple of weeks. Given that the main page hasn't been updated in a long time I'm just going to start going directly to Yuku. Are there plans to update the content on outside the message board and the Power 50 or is the site planning on focusing on those features for the time being?
  24. Thanks for the thoughts. That's exactly what I was looking for.
